Chad held the pedal to the floor as the landscape flashed by in a haze of speed. His mouth voiced soundless utterances, switching between phrases like, “…I don’t know what I’ll do to him,” to: “shit! Shit! shit!”

He got half-way there when the voice of reason kicked in. He slammed on the breaks and turned the car around. He picked up his phone.

  “Randall.”

  “Yeah? Where’d you go?!”

“Nevermind it. I’m going to Paxton’s. Get there NOW.”

  “Uhh…Ok? Paxton what’s going on?”

“I’ll explain when we get there.”

They met on an adjacent street and Chad motioned for Randall to get into his car. Johnathan had come along and so the three of them left Randall’s vehicle and they parked a few doors down from Paxton’s place, trying not to raise any suspicion.

  “What’s going on?” Randall asked.

  “We’re going in.”

“What?” John started. “Dude—we’re not breaking in to someone’s home.” He began to shake his head, refusing to believe what was happening.

“Yes we are.” Chad said coolly. “No one invited you along for this—you can leave.”

  Johnathan didn’ move.

“Whoa, Chad. Let’s calm down.” Randall spoke up, “What exactly are we doing?”

“We’re gonna watch and wait. Look—his parents aren’t home, there’s no car in the driveway—that means it’s just him and Dasha. That’s probably why she came over last night.” He paused for a moment, “They’re in there right now. We’ll wait for Paxton to leave and we’ll see…”

“See what?” John interrupted angrily. “No, seriously, Chadwick. What are we going to see? What do you want to do? Corner the girl? Rip off her clothes? Beat her up? Rape her? If we go in there, what do you seriously think we are going to find?”

  “I don’t know,” Chad said. “Answers—maybe.”

“Yeah well I hope it’s worth it. I don’t want any part of it, we’re committing a crime,” Johnathan said, turning to Randall: “You’re not actually going to go with him, are you?”

“Well,” He said to himself, “If she is a vampire—she’ll likely be asleep on a day like today.” He gestured to the brilliantly shining morning sun and the sky of a beautifully clear morning.

“I can’t even believe this. I feel like I’m taking crazy pills. You guys are nuts.” Johnathan said.

“Whatever,” Chad said. “You may do as you please. We will not make you stay.”
