Having narrowly escaped, the guild could finally breathe easy. Now at a comfortable distance from any threats, Randall pulled the car over and Fantasia stepped out of the trunk.

“It’s about time,” Fantasia announced, “I had to keep my knife to his throat the whole time.

Fantasia released her grip, letting a young neckbeard fall to the ground before her, writhing in humiliation.

“Where’d you get that?” Mickey asked.

“He was holding onto the bumper—I figured he might be useful, so I pulled him in and held him down.”

Dex stepped up and wasted no time. He unsheathed his Katana and held it close to the neckbeard’s face.

“Look at that.” He said. “Look at how sharp it is.”

The neckbeard immediately stopped squirming, too scared to move. “Now I’m going to speak and you’re going to listen. You will answer every question I ask you. If you lie—I will know, and you will die. If you tell the truth—you will walk away unharmed and you can report to Milady what a good boy you’ve been. Do you understand?”

The neckbeard nodded in desperate agreement.

“Good.” Dex dragged the neckbeard about twenty feet away, hit him in the face eight times (Dex later insisted that three would have made him seem too humane, and given him reason to think he might get away with lying) and then proceeded to question him.

After a few minutes he came back, sword in tow.

“Everybody in,” he said. Before the others could ask any of the many questions on their minds, he added, “We’re going to the airport.”
