Dance in the Rain: Chosen Book 23

My whole body burned with the need to release, my balls drawing tight just before a tingle raced down my spine, then my dick erupted, painting my chest and his with cum. I clenched around him, riding out my orgasm, and I felt him stutter against me, his body going rigid.
He leaned forward, licking the skin over the swell of my trap muscle, just before sinking his teeth into my skin.
I yelled out as another orgasm rushed through my body and my dick wrung itself almost completely dry, as he grunted above me, a moan vibrating against my skin as he too released again.
I was amazed to realize I actually felt a connection. I hadn't really expected the feeling to be quite so clear. Feeling like you belonged to someone was worlds different than knowing you belonged to them—and I had no doubt that I belonged to him and him to me.
My body went completely limp, my arms flopping to the bed and my legs unwinding, flopping also, as everything suddenly felt so heavy.
"I'm so fucking glad I'm yours," I whispered, smiling happily as he licked at the wound on my shoulder, making him chuckle.
"Me too, baby," he whispered, just before I fell asleep, euphoric happiness carrying me toward good dreams.
***
I woke to a phone ringing and a heated blanket wrapped around me from behind. I sighed contentedly as strong arms tightened around me, a small thrill threatening to drag me out of my peaceful sleep as I remembered this was going to be my life from here on out, waking in strong arms.
The phone continued to ring, and I frowned, not at all happy to be disturbed.
Meyers growled behind me, reaching over to the nightstand beside him and snatching his phone up, hitting the speakerphone button and setting it on the pillow above my head, before wrapping his arms back around me and grunting in greeting to whoever it was on the other side.
"I have someone following me," a deep voice said, and Meyers groaned.
"Do you know who?"
"No, but if I had to guess, I would say it's your missing guy from the house. One of the idiots left his phone on the table when he was questioning the guy that had your mate's hair. He pocketed the phone when Wayne got up for a minute and made a phone call. We managed to get the phone from him in the middle of it, but the number and the phone connected to it belonged to a guy local to the area where the house is located. We sent people to find him, but he wasn't home, and hasn't been home in days."
"Why the hell was Wayne questioning him anyway?" Meyers demanded, sounding pissed. "The man's an idiot."
"Probably just wanted the notoriety. He kinda did us a favor in an odd way, though. We wouldn’t have the last guy connected to that house's number if he hadn’t been stupid enough to leave his phone out."
"Who doesn't have a passcode on their phone these days?"
"I don't," the other man said simply, making me smile as Meyers huffed.
"Okay. How far are you from the house?" Meyers asked, pulling me closer to his body, rubbing his stubbled chin against the top of my head.
"About twenty minutes. You want me to take him somewhere else?"
Meyers sighed. "Yeah, lead him to the abandoned house in Pleasant Hill. Recker and I will meet you there."
The man I was assuming was Meyer's partner, Rowe, grumbled out an answer and hung up.
Meyers let out a frustrated growl, before easing his arm out from under my head and sitting up.
"You're going now?" I asked, feeling the first strings of panic set in as I thought about everything that could happen to him.
I knew he was a very strong man, and I was sure his friend was no different, along with Recker, but that didn't stop me from thinking about all the ways leading that man into a trap could go badly.
None of those guards had been good men. They seemed to find a perverse pleasure in hurting the people in their care just enough to make them nervous, but not enough to leave unsightly marks that might detract from their value. Unless, of course, they were already damaged, then they could be a bit crueler.
"I've got to go make sure this guy is who we think he is, so we can consider that house completely shut down, and then I'll need to interrogate him to see if he has any ties to the agent with the list, but there is very little chance he is going to even get near me. I'll be super careful, I promise."
"You’d better be," I whispered, wrapping my arms around his neck and holding on. "You can't leave me now that I've finally found my special person.
"Fuck, baby." He grabbed the sides of my head, pulling back so he could kiss my mouth and then rub his nose along the side of mine. "I love you, Braden. I'm going to do everything I can to get back to you, okay?"
I gasped, jerking back in his arms and glaring at him. "Are you just saying that to me because you think you're going to die?"
He chuckled, shaking his head, and pressing his face against the side of mine. "No, baby," he whispered around a smile. "I mean every single word."
My throat tightened, and I swallowed hard, trying to make my voice work. "I love you too, Meyers," I eventually choked out. "Please, be safe."
***
I was just hobbling back to Meyers' room, where I planned to spend the rest of the day holed up in a ball worrying myself into an early grave, when I heard the back door open and Malik whistle out a whew.
"You look like shit," my friend said, making me stop in my tracks as I waited to see if it was who I'd hoped it would be.
"Thanks," I heard Meyers grumble, and I spun, running as best I could back to the kitchen, sliding around the corner of the door. "Hey, baby," he said happily as he saw me, and I hurried toward him, wrapping my arms around him and pressing my face to his chest, a sob of happiness leaving me.
Being without him for the few hours he had been gone, especially knowing he could possibly be in danger, was miserable. I didn't know how mates were supposed to have jobs or lives if it was that painful to be without the other.
"I don't think you look like shit," I mumbled into his neck, ignoring the fact that his shirt was stained and ripped and smelled a bit like cow shit. "You look absolutely perfect to me, because you're here."
He squeezed me tighter, and I relaxed against him, just happy to be back in his arms.
The door opened again, and I looked over, expecting to see Recker strolling through the door, but instead found Meyers' partner, staring in shock at Malik who was staring up at him in return.
Malik had told me once that he'd gotten used to being stared at all the time a long time ago, because he'd been so young when he'd gotten his burns, but I knew from experience that there were some stares that bothered you worse than others, and I could tell by the deep sigh and the way his shoulders dropped, that the huge man's stare was one of those that bothered him.
I'd never seen Malik Newton look so damn… hurt.
"Rowe, right?" he asked the man, reaching up to pull the longish strands of his hair forward, covering as much of his scars as possible.
"Uh, yeah," Rowe said, frowning slightly. "How did you know that?"
"Lucky guess. What are you?" When all Rowe did was blink at the man in confusion, Malik raised one of his snarky little eyebrows, clearly unimpressed with Rowe's intelligence. "Your animal. What's your animal? Are you like a whale or something?"
Rowe's head snapped back, and he finally glanced away from the man, looking toward my mate and I for help.
"No," he said quietly, licking his lips as he once again watched Malik. "I'm a white rhino."
"Hmm," the curious and bossy human said, nodding his head a couple of times. "Are you hungry?"
Rowe nodded, a blush working its way over his face and down his neck. "I'm always hungry."
He continued to watch Malik as the man moved across the room to the pantry, reaching in and pulling some things out before returning and setting them on the counter, and I realized by the way his eyes swept the man's form when he wasn't looking, that he wasn't watching the man for the same reason Malik thought, or the way I had thought.
Rowe was w
atching Malik with a type of awe I recognized. The type of awe a certain black rhino had on his face when he looked at me.
"I don't cook all that well," Malik said, squaring his shoulders and looking more like his old self. "But I can make spaghetti. That sound good to you?"
Rowe nodded ridiculously, once again blushing bright red when Malik's gaze fell on him. "Yeah."
Malik tilted his head to the side, watching Rowe for a moment, making the blush on the bigger man's face only get worse, and I nearly laughed at the big, bashful dork.
"Good," Malik said finally, shaking his head as he turned and started digging pans out of the bottom cabinets.
Rowe's gaze fell to Malik's ass, and his eyes widened, making me snort out a laugh.
He glanced over at me, blushing all over again, when he realized he'd gotten caught.
"I'm hungry," Meyers said, pouting, and Malik threw a glare over his shoulder. "Are you going to feed me?"
"Nope," Malik said, turning back to his task. "After stressing Braden out so much, you need to take your dirty ass upstairs and take a shower, and then you need to take him to dinner and a movie."
"Yes, Mom," Meyers said, earning a disgruntled huff from Malik, but was otherwise ignored by the man.
Meyers turned to a once again staring Rowe, raising his eyebrows. "You okay here with mean momma Malik?" he asked, throwing a thumb in Malik's direction.
Rowe didn't take his eyes off of Malik the entire time, and a small smile slipped onto his lips. "Definitely," he whispered, making us both chuckle.
