  “The Ten Thousand-Tentacled Serpent bloodline?”

Chapter 398: The Void Beast, The Boundless Great Beast

“What kind of creature is the Ten Thousand-Tentacled Serpent, Moro?”

Knowing that it was pointless to pose questions to the system, Meng Lei decided to consult Moro instead. There was nothing that that old antique that had survived the last era didn’t know.

  “The Ten Thousand-Tentacled Serpent bloodline?”

Moro turned into a wisp of black smoke and manifested in front of Meng Lei. He remarked in surprise, “Where did you hear about the Ten Thousand-Tentacled Serpent from? Most people aren’t aware of an ancient creature like that.”

“If I’m not wrong, this crystal ball here is likely some kind of organ from the Ten Thousand-Tentacled Serpent. It’s most likely its eyeball,” explained Meng Lei.

Other creatures would never drop the Ten Thousand-Tentacled Serpent bloodline. Only the Ten Thousand-Tentacled Serpent itself or any of its organs would drop its bloodline.

There was no doubt about that.

“You can actually conclude that this is the Ten Thousand-Tentacled Serpent’s eyeball when you don’t even know what it is? You’re seriously a riot!” mocked Moro teasingly.

Then, his gaze fell onto the crystal ball in the box, and he said, “Your blind guess is actually correct, though! This really is the Ten Thousand-Tentacled Serpent’s eyeball.”

What’s there for me to make a freaking blind guess about? I gained that knowledge through my own abilities, alright?

Meng Lei urged huffily, “C’mon, stop saying these useless things and tell me about the Ten Thousand-Tentacled Serpent instead!”

Moro chuckled and started to explain. He said, “You should know that the vast universe has birthed countless powerful lifeforms such as deities, divine beasts, demons, devils, the Undead, and so on. No matter whether these lifeforms are powerful or not, they are all entities produced by the existential planes. Therefore, we also call these creatures Existential Plane Lifeforms.”

Meng Lei nodded slightly. Be it deities, demons, or even mortals, it was the existential planes that gave birth to all these lifeforms. There was no doubt about that.

“However, there’s also one particular life-form in the vast universe that isn’t produced by existential planes but born to the vast Void itself instead,” added Moro.

“Born to the vast Void itself?” A surprised Meng Lei asked, “Can the Void give birth to lives, too?”

What was there in the Void?

  There was no air!

  No magic elements!

  No animals or plants!

  There was nothing at all!

There was only endless, boundless darkness, the freezing cold, dead silence, and... Nothingness itself. Can a world like that, one that didn’t have anything at all, actually also give birth to lives?

“Nothing is absolute in this world.”

A lofty smile appeared on Moro’s countenance, and he said, “Even though the Void is a world of nothingness, where it’s immensely difficult to give birth to life, there is a lifeform that exactly originated from the Void itself.”

“What kind of life-form is that?” asked Meng Lei curiously.

  “The Void Beast!”

Moro, who was all smiles, explained, “The Void Beast is a fearsome life-form born to the Void. There are very, very few of them, but every single Void Beast possesses incredibly strong and vigorous life force and terrifying power.

“You should know that the Void is a world of nothingness. Food is extremely scarce there, and the environment is also exceedingly terrible. Even people like the Chief Gods greatly dislike the environment in the Void. Thus, you can imagine for yourself just how fearsome the lifeforms such an adverse environment gives birth to are!”

“Exactly how fearsome are the Void Beasts?” asked Meng Lei curiously.

“Void Beasts do not cultivate laws of nature but just their bodies, so they have extremely strong and powerful bodies. There are many types of Void Beasts, though, and there are great differences in strength among the various types of Void Beasts. Among them, the most powerful ones are fully capable of contending with the Supreme Juggernauts.”

A smiling Moro explained, “Of course, Void Beasts capable of contending with the Supreme Juggernauts are extremely rare. There are only a few of them even in the entire universe.”

“They can contend with the juggernauts?” A huge jolt went through Meng Lei as he asked, “How strong must their bodies be?”

“Very, very strong! Unimaginably strong! Compared to the Void Beasts, the Titans, Behemoths, and Giant Elephants are practically babies!”

Moro sighed emotionally and said, “You haven’t seen much of the world, so you wouldn’t know how strong a Void Beast is. Even so, you should have heard of a certain man.”

  “Who?”

  Meng Lei was puzzled.

  “The Boundless King!”

Moro said, “Surely you must have heard of this name before? I’m going to seriously look down on you if you don’t even know this name!”

A wry smile came over Meng Lei’s features at once, and he replied, “Of course I have. I’ve even met his divine spirit fragment and received all the treasures that he’d accumulated throughout his entire life!”

  “Eh?”

Taken aback, Moro asked, “You can’t be that savage murderer that obtained the Boundless King’s treasure and even slaughtered a million gods and demons, can you?”

Meng Lei was also taken aback. He asked, “How did you know?”

“Duh! Your notoriety has already spread throughout the whole wide universe after that Boundless Plane battle!”

Moro clicked his tongue in wonder as he marveled, “I was even pretty puzzled at that time and had wondered whether the Boundless King had come back to life. Otherwise, how could the gods and demons possibly suffer such a great loss?”

“That’s because those gods and demons were too weak,” scoffed Meng Lei.

“True! Compared to you, they are certainly weaklings.”

Moro nodded in agreement. Then, he asked, “Since you’ve come into close contact with the Boundless King before, then you should be aware of how fearsome that guy is, right?”

Meng Lei nodded slightly and replied, “His body rivals a Supreme Juggernaut’s. It’s certainly terrifying.”

“Well, do you know that the Boundless King is actually a Void Beast, then?” asked Moro leisurely.

  “(⊙_⊙)”

A look of stupefaction came over Meng Lei’s features, and he asked, “The Boundless King is a Void Beast? What kind of joke is that?”

“I suppose that’s not quite right, either. To be more accurate, he’s a deity that took over the body of a Void Beast.”

Moro corrected himself and said, “The Void Beast whose body he had stolen is known as the Boundless Great Beast. Boundless Great Beasts are one of the strongest Void Beasts, and an adolescent or younger is already capable of contending with a juggernaut.”

“The Boundless King... had stolen a Boundless Great Beast’s body?”

Meng Lei was somewhat filled with disbelief.

“Every powerful life-form starts out weak and only becomes stronger one step at a time. Void Beasts are no exception, either. The Boundless King was lucky enough to find a juvenile Boundless Great Beast. He successfully stole its body and ultimately matured into someone that reached the heights of a Supreme Juggernaut.”

Moro shook his head with a smile and went on. “It’s just a shame that his emergence ended up threatening the four Supreme Juggernauts’ positions, so they used his Void Beast identity as an excuse to unite all the Chief Gods and killed him. It could be said that both his success and defeat were built upon the Boundless Great Beast.”

“The four Supreme Juggernauts are so shameless!”

  Meng Lei was rather indignant.

“They wouldn’t be the four Supreme Juggernauts if they weren’t!”

>   Moro chuckled lightly as he shook his head. Then, he went on and said, “They didn’t kill the Boundless King solely because he had threatened their positions, though.”

“Did other factors also play a part?”

  Meng Lei was puzzled.

“Void Beasts are different from divine beasts.”

Moro explained, “Divine beasts don’t fear thirst and hunger, but that’s not the case for Void Beasts. No matter how strong they are, they still need to constantly feed in order to secure the energy that their powerful body needs to function. The Boundless King, who had stolen a Boundless Great Beast’s body, is no exception to this.

“You can’t possibly imagine how voracious an appetite an adult Boundless Great Beast has. If they had allowed the Boundless King to feed as he pleased, the whole universe would have been eaten by him a long time ago! Therefore, he had to die.”

“To think there’s also a reason like that!”

Meng Lei found this rather inconceivable.

“Every Void Beast has a voracious appetite. They usually leave behind an expanse of nothingness in their wake. Thus, they are also known as the Beasts of Destruction.”

Moro said with a sigh, “As a result, Void Beasts are the common enemy of both gods and demons. It’s entirely possible for gods and demons to team up and fight against Void Beasts.”

  “Beasts of Destruction...”

  Meng Lei was rather astounded.

“In comparison, the Ten Thousand-Tentacled Serpent is a relatively common Void Beast species.”

Moro explained, “An adult Ten Thousand-Tentacled Serpent’s body is as enormous as a low-end existential plane. It has 10,000 heads and 10,000 tails and is thus known as the Ten Thousand-Tentacled Serpent.”

“As big as a low-end existential plane?!” Meng Lei gasped, “Isn’t that a little too big?!”

“Big? Ha, you call this big?”

Moro let out a contemptuous scoff and said, “That’s only because you haven’t seen a truly colossal Void Beast yet. When you do, you won’t say that the Ten Thousand-Tentacled Serpent is big anymore!”

Chapter 399: Breaking The Seal, Black Phoenix Demon Grandmaster

The Ten Thousand-Tentacled Serpent had the size of a low-end existential plane.

,000 heads and 10,000 tails; how huge was that?

Yet, in Moro’s eyes, the Ten Thousand-Tentacled Serpent was still nothing worth mentioning. Meng Lei simply could not imagine how the strongest Void Beasts would look like.

“In the future, I hope to get the chance to witness the true appearance of the Void Beast.” A look of longing appeared in Meng Lei’s eyes.

  “That chance will come.”

Meng Lei started to check the second box.

As the box was opened, a meter-long broken sword entered his sight. It was three inches wide, while its surface gave off a chilly glint. Even Meng Lei could feel a biting chill that went all the way into his bones.

Unfortunately, it was broken in half.

Meng Lei held the broken sword in his hand and sliced across his finger gently. A nail came off with ease.

  Meng Lei was shocked.

His divine body was comparable to a lesser Chief God whose nails were incredibly tough. He did not expect that the broken sword could slice through his nail so easily, proving its sharpness.

“This is an incomplete higher Chief God-level weapon! Even though there’s only half of it, its sharpness is still at the level of a higher Chief God-level weapon!” Moro exclaimed.

  “Good!”

Meng Lei kept the broken sword and opened the next box.

  Whoosh!

Just as the box opened, a blinding red light shot out from within. At the same time, an incredibly bloodthirsty, evil, horrifying aura spread around quickly, ravaging the entire alternate dimension. Only those powerful enough like Meng Lei could withstand such aura. If it were Puhaman and the rest, they would have been infatuated by this bloodthirsty aura... entering the path of evil!

  “That’s—”

Meng Lei looked inside and saw a beating heart lying in the middle of the box. The amazing thing was that even if it was by itself, it was beating like normal.

  It was... alive!

“That’s a Demon Grandmaster’s heart.” Moro took a glance. “From its aura, it should be the heart of the Bloodseeker’s ancestors, likely cut down during the war between gods and demons.”

A Demon Grandmaster was the Chief God of Demons.

The Bloodseeker ancestor would naturally be a Bloodseeker Demon Grandmaster.

“No wonder it could become a part of the Nidhogg Chief God’s collection. It’s the Bloodseeker Demon Grandmaster’s heart, after all,” Meng Lei remarked.

  The third box was opened.

A scythe that was fully blood-red in color and emitted a deathly aura entered his eyes. Meng Lei recognized it immediately.

“This is a Grim Reaper Scythe,” Moro explained with a smile. “It’s a Chief God-level Grim Reaper Scythe, so it should be useful for you.”

  “Indeed.”

Meng Lei took out the Grim Reaper Scythe and refined it directly, turning it into his weapon. He then threw the previous one into his spatial ring. It was too weak, and it was time to eliminate it.

The surface of the fourth box was densely packed with laws of nature runes inscribed all over it. Given his understanding and comprehension of the laws of nature, Meng Lei knew the sole purpose of these laws of nature runes—a seal.

  “What is sealed inside exactly?”

Meng Lei broke the laws of nature seal.

  Boom!

The box shook vigorously, and it intensified further and further as if something was smashing the box from inside in an attempt to break out of the seal.

  “Eh?”

Meng Lei and Moro exchanged a look, both seeing the astonishment in each other’s eyes. “What’s sealed within this box?”

  “Must be something extraordinary!”

“Duh! How can something sealed by a Chief God be ordinary—”

  Boom!

The box could no longer hold what was inside without the seal. The box exploded as black flames shot out of it.

“Kekeke! I’m out! I’m finally out! Kekeke!”

The black flame jumped up and down, spreading out and gathering from time to time. It laughed out loud, venting out its joy and excitement like a lunatic.

  “What the heck is this?”

  Meng Lei looked at Moro.

“Judging from its might, that must be a Chief God.” Moro smiled faintly. “It should be a Black Phoenix.”

“Dark Phoenix?” Meng Lei paused. “You mean the Black Phoenix of the demons?”

  “That’s right!”

The truth was as Moro expected. After a bout of excitement, the black flame finally calmed down and transformed into a five-meter-high black phoenix.

Its appearance was extremely similar to a Divine Netherworld Phoenix’s, but its aura was entirely different.

The Divine Netherworld Phoenixes were mighty and imposing, but this Black Phoenix had the aura of bloodlust and evilness.

It was evident from their flames. The Divine Netherworld Phoenix’s Netherworld Divine Fire was the flame of extreme heat that could burn enemies till their death. As for the Black Phoenix’s fire, extreme cold would be the fitting description.

  One was hot.

  The other cold.

  They were two absolute extremes.

There was another difference between them. Although the Divine Netherworld Phoenixes’ habitant was the Netherworld, it was a divine beast with the same cultivation methods as other deities and divine beasts. On the other hand, the Black Phoenix was a demon that mainly devoured other demons for its cultivation.

  One was a divine beast.

  The other a demon.

“So you’re the one who released me?” The Black Phoenix flew in front of Meng Lei as it sized him up with its blood-colored eyes. A hint of surprise flashed across its ey
es. “Why are you here? Where’s that Nidhogg?”

“I’m the one who released you.” Meng Lei nodded slightly. “As for Nidhogg, he’s dead.”

  “He’s dead?”

A jolt went through the Black Phoenix as it exclaimed, “How did that fellow die? He’s a Chief God. Who could’ve killed him? Was there another war between gods and demons?”

“No wars, I killed him,” Meng Lei answered casually. “Since I’ve saved you, how are you going to repay me?”

  “You killed that fellow?”

The Black Phoenix looked shocked as it stared at Meng Lei. “You’re lying! You’re merely a lesser Chief God, so how could you kill that Nidhogg fellow? Just spit it out! Who are you, and why are you here?”

“I don’t care whether you believe it or not.” Meng Lei did not plan to explain himself. “Now tell me how you’re going to repay me. If your answer isn’t satisfying enough, I don’t mind putting you back in that box!”

“Hehe! Repay you? You’re asking a demon to repay you?” The Black Phoenix let out a cold snort. “Since you’re asking for repayment, let me repay you properly then! Arctic Flames!”

It sprayed a black dragon-shaped flame out of its mouth, and it pounced at Meng Lei. It was clear that it wanted to ‘burn’ Meng Lei to death.

  “You’re courting death!”

Meng Lei sneered as a silver glint flashed across his eyes. The black dragon flame paused mid-air in an instant.

Immediately after, Meng Lei snapped his finger as a Netherworld Spear shot toward the Black Phoenix.

“The Netherworld Divine Fire! So you’re one of those damn bastards!”

The Black Phoenix snorted as it was about to counter with its wings. However, it realized that its body could no longer move—its wings could not flap, its mouth could not open, its brain could not work...

  “What’s going on?”

  The Black Phoenix was stunned.

“How dare a mere lesser Demon Grandmaster to behave so audaciously in my presence!”

Meng Lei scoffed as he waved his arm. The Netherworld Spear pierced right through the chest of the Black Phoenix, turning into raging flames that burned intensely.

  “Aahhh!”

Meng Lei’s Netherworld Divine Fire had already evolved into its ultimate form. Plus, as his metal-origin, wood-origin, and thunder-origin divine body reached the Great Mastery level, the Netherworld Divine Fire was further enhanced.
