“You told me that yesterday!” Simon Price blustered. His voice was still raspy from the other night. His throat was still sore.

“Yes but my men retrieved the bars from the river and The Wildcats stole the load again before I got back to the mine.” Conrad Price whined.

“So you’re telling me, we don’t have a shipment for next week.” Simon was pacing around his small office at the rear of his bank. Conrad was standing in front of his father’s desk and Flow Baxter was lounging in the big leather chair in the corner. She would have looked bored had she not been just a bit amused with Conrad’s discomfort.

“Th... that’s about it, Pa,” Conrad said meekly. His hat was in his hand.

“Well what are you doing about it?” Price chided. He rubbed the bald spot on the back of his head.

“Do? You mean, get it back?”

“No you nitwit. Don’t you have enough silver to make up another shipment?

“Oh. Yeah. I guess we could do that,” Conrad said. “We don’t have much, though, I’m not sure we got enough.”

“Then melt down a few ingots of the real stuff from last month. That will be faster anyways.”

“Oh. Right, Pa. That’s good thinking. Why didn’t I think of that.

“Exactly,” Simon fumed, glaring at his son and wishing he had someone else’s.

Conrad continued to stand there silently for no apparent reason until Simon blustered again. “Well, what are you waiting for? Get out of here and get to work.

“Y...yes sir,” Conrad said and hurried nervously out the door.

Simon pursed his lips angrily as he watched his son go. His eyes wandered to the corner where Flo was sitting. He thought he saw a slight hint of amusement in her expression, though she was trying to hide it. “What the hell were you doing all night?” He barked angrily. “You look like hell.”
