The basement door opened and we heard heavy boots coming down and I knew right away it was Denari, he was the only person I knew that wore fucking Timberland boots with fucking shorts.

“Bout got damn time, you need to get your fucking shit together! I’m tired of having to put everything on hold because ya retarded ass can’t tell fucking time.” Kayson yelled.

“Damn my bad I’m twenty minutes late, hell at least I showed up, right?” He looked around the room for validation but everyone was mugging him instead.

This showed me that what I was about to do was gonna be a good thing for all of them, I think they needed some space from each other before they killed each other.

“Aight my fault, I’ma do better next time.” His smart ass smirked.

“Anyway,” I interjected. “Omari, you had something you wanted me to hear about.”

“Hell yeah,” he stepped up. “I was talking to this cat that was telling me about some shit that’s crazy and will bring in hella money.”

  “Talk nigga.” I urged.

“So, you know them Vape shits?” I nodded, he was talking about them things that helped muthafucka stop smoking and shit. “Well they make pure THC juice for them now, and old dude told me how to make that shit and I’m telling you we would make a killing off the shit.”

  “Explain?” Jaako asked.

Omari pulled out one of the Vapes and started to show Jaako what he was talking about. He pulled out the juice that’s supposed to go in there for the cigarette smokers and then he pulled out the pure THC.

“Instead of using that flavor shit that goes in there you just use the pure THC. Here hit this shit.” He urged Jaako, he grabbed it and hit it and nothing happened and it caused Omari to laugh and Jaako to swing on him. “Nigga you gotta push the fucking button.” Jaako tried again and hit that shit hard as hell and I swore I saw his eyes roll in the back of his head.

“Nigga yo, you aight.” Kayson spoke up.

“Shiiiiiittttttttttt.” Jaako said with his lungs full of smoke then he let a big cloud of smoke out through his mouth and nose then went into a fit of coughing. Once he got his self together he looked at Omari. “That shit is banging muthafucka, you a got damn genius.”

“Let me hit that shit.” Kayson said and hit it and did the same thing as Jaako, once he was done he just smiled and nodded his head at me.

“So how you get that shit in liquid form.”

“One of two ways, we can buy that shit like that already from this nigga I was talking to, or we can extract that shit our self. I would just need somewhere to fucking set up.” Omari shrugged his shoulders.

“How that shit sell.” Kayson wanted to know.

“You sell it in vials, they come in 5ml, 15ml vials or a 30ml bottle. The shit ain’t like rolling a blunt, as soon as the blunt gone you out. You just put drops in the tank of the vape so a 5ml vial will go for like $40 on the street but will last a nigga about 3 or 4 days depending on how much they smoke. Now a 15ml vial will go for $75 and last like a week and a half if the nigga don’t share and shit.” He laughed. “That got damn 30 will last a nigga fucking two or three weeks, maybe even more.” Omari hit the Vape. “The Vapes cost about $90 but they last for fucking ever, I can actually buy them in bulk so we can sell them for less. But once you got the Vape as long as you take care of it and change the coils you good and you just need to buy the juice.” He rubbed his hands together.

“You think this shit gonna hit?”

“Hell yeah, it’s already big down there in Texas and shit but it’s moving its way this way. I’m trying to be the first to have this shit on the market. I mean it ain’t gone sell like coke and shit but I bet it pick up fast as hell.”

  “I think you’re right nephew.”

I nodded my head and agreed with him. I think this was gonna be a good thing. We needed to get on this shit and fast. I was gonna let Omari take point over this, it was time for all of them to gain some responsibility in the organization because it was time for me to sit back and enjoy the fruits of my labor.

“Aight so I’m splitting y’all up.” I said and the only person that objected was Denari and that was because he would now have to pull his own weight.

“Why you wanna do that Unc, shit running smooth as fuck right now.”

“You just scared yo’ ass gone have to do some got damn work instead of riding our fucking coat tails.” Kayson smiled, he loved the idea of not having to deal with Denari and I don’t blame him.

“Shut the fuck up Kayson I’m about tired of you and yo’ slick ass comments, just because everybody don’t live and breathe this shit like you do.”

“That’s the fucking problem, to be successful in the fucking game you gotta live and breathe the shit. Yo’ ass just think shit supposed to be laid at your fucking feet. Lazy ass don’t wanna work for shit. What the fuck you gonna do now that you ain’t gone have us to lean on?” Kayson prided.

“Fuck you man,” was all that Denari could say because he knew that Kayson was right. Kayson was a born leader and it made me smile just to think about it.

“Chill.” I broke up their little spat. “Omari, you taking over the operation for the Vape Juice so that’s all that you are going to be responsible for, just let me know what you need. Jaako, you gone handle all sales for weed, molly and X. You think you can handle that?” He nodded his head because originally it was gonna be him and Omari, but I needed Omari to get that other shit off the ground. “Kayson, you got that white girl which is where most of our money come from, so you got the bulk of shit.” Kayson smiled and nodded. He loved that shit.

“Yo I can just help Omari with his shit.” Denari interjected. I knew what he was trying to do but that shit wasn’t gone work. I needed to know if he was built for this shit or not.

“Negative.” I said. “You gone run the house on Beaties Ford by yourself. You will be responsible for pickups and drop offs, the crew and the way the house is ran. You won’t have your brothers so the success of that house will be all on you, do you think you can handle that?” Instead of telling me that he could, he diverted the conversation to his brothers.

“Why they all get to move up and I still gotta be at the house?”

“Because Denari you ain’t showed me shit but that you can party and smoke, that’s it.” I gave it to him raw and uncut. “This is gonna show me if you built for this life or not. ‘Cause right now with all of your fuck ups, you showing me that this ain’t for you. Prove me wrong.”

This was his one and only shot, I needed for him to get his shit together and fast. He needed to show me that he could do what I needed him to do or he would sit back and watch his brothers become the kings of Charlotte. I’ll be damn if I let him fuck this shit up for us.

“Aight, well meet me at the warehouse tomorrow and I will run down my expectations for each of you. 11 a.m. sharp, and not a minute later.” I directed that last part to Denari. They all nodded their heads and headed out the door. I was ready to see if they could handle pieces of what I did daily.

  Chapter Sixteen

  Denari

I can’t believe that Unc just tried to play me like that. I do just as much as them niggas do, hell I put in work just like they do. They thought just because I didn’t live in the fucking trap house that I wasn’t working, shit I could make deals and shit too. Them muthafuckas get the cushy shit and I’m still stuck at the fucking house.

“Yo D wait up.” I heard Omari yell from behind me but I didn’t feel like talking to his ass either. He didn’t even take up for me back there and we’re blood.

“I ain’t even in the fucking mood O.”

  “The fuck yo’ problem man?”

“You! Yo’ ass didn’t even defend me when they were talking shit about me.” I fumed.

“Nigga everything they said was fucking true. Tell me what the fuck you know about running the trap? I’ll wait.” He folded his arms and waited for me to answer.

  To be honest, I couldn’t, I
sat back and took orders from Kayson whenever he needed me to do something. When he wasn’t telling me what to do I was partying or fucking. Didn’t mean I didn’t do shit just meant that I didn’t have anything to do.

“I don’t have time for this.” I tried to open the door to my new school Camaro and Omari shut it back.

“No, you don’t have time for it because yo’ ass don’t know, the only thing you know is what we told you. You never had time to sit down and learn the shit and Unc see that shit nigga. If you don’t shape up, Unc gonna sit you down and I know you don’t want that.”

“Man, Unc ain’t gonna do shit.” I wasn’t so sure about that so I know the uncertainty showed through my tone.

“Yeah nigga you don’t believe that, you need to be at the warehouse at 11 a.m. sharp. Nah fuck that, have yo’ ass there at 10:30 so you can learn this shit because I gotta feeling if you fuck this up, you out bruh.” Omari looked me square in the eye, I could see the sympathy that he had for me and I could also tell that he was trying to hide it so he could show me how serious the situation was. Maybe I did need to shape up.

“Man, I’ll be there.” I waved it off like it wasn’t nothing but I was gonna be there, and on time for once.

I hopped in my car heading in the direction of this little shorty I kick it with from time to time. It wasn’t shit with her and she knew it, she was just happy to be in the presence of a Barnes whenever she could.

I really wanted to see Heaven but I hadn’t heard from her since that night at the club and I wasn’t about to be bugging and shit. She had that extra phone that I got her to call me and she hadn’t, so I took it as she was trying to play house with that nigga. I understood after the first night or two she wanted to give things a chance to calm down, but it’s been damn near two fucking weeks since that shit happened.

I wasn’t a nigga that chased pussy, I cared about Heaven, I may have even loved her, but no one would know that shit but me. People use that LOVE shit against you. I mean just look at the shit my moms went through before my dad killed her. People would always ask her why she stayed and her response would always be because I loved him. I promised myself that I would never give anyone that much power over me. I would just stick to these bird brain bitches and keep it moving.

Speaking of bird brain bitches, I hadn’t heard from Krista’s ass lately. I guess she meant that shit about not fucking with a nigga anymore. I knew I was wrong as fuck for that shit but got damn the shit she could do with her legs was a fucking turn on and like I said, Jaako didn’t give a fuck he didn’t even like her ass, no one did. My phone rang and it was a number that I didn’t know so I cleared it only for it to call right back.

  “The fuck is this?”

“Denari it’s me.” Heaven cried. The way she sounded had me alarmed and I didn’t like it one bit, scared the shit out of me.

“Yo, the hell wrong with you?”

“Ortiz drug me with him out of town to do a job that night after the club. He wouldn’t let me take anything, including my purse, which is why I haven’t called. He takes all the cords to the phones when he leaves.” She sniffled and I felt something that I had never felt before, sympathy for someone else. “He left two days ago to finish the job but he never came back.”

“So you don’t know where he is?”

“No,” she broke down. “Some men came by here the other day beating on the door but I hid in the bathroom until they left. He paid for the room up until tonight, can you just come and get me I’m so scared.”

“Man, where you at?” I heard shuffling and papers shuffling. “Emporia, Virginia?” she said in a questioning tone. I know it’s right on the state line because I remember seeing the Welcome to Virginia sign.”

“Damn Heaven, that’s a long ass drive. What if I send you money for a bus or some shit?”

“I’m scared Denari, you told me that if I ever needed you that you had me.” She cried. “I need you.”

For some reason when she said that it broke my heart. I pulled over on side of the road and had her send me the address to the hotel that she was staying at and told her that I would be there in a few hours. I put the address in my GPS, stopped at the gas station and got me one of them Styrofoam coolers, filled her up with a 12 pack of Coors Light and hit the road. In a sense, I was making a commitment to her that I damn sure wasn’t ready for. I just hope that her ass was ready to deal with what all came with my ass because I wasn’t slowing down for nobody.

“Open the damn door Heaven,” I was frustrated as hell, that was the longest fucking ride ever. Four fucking hours all on 85 North, it wasn’t like I was able to site see or no shit like that, all I saw was fucking road. “You better open the got damn door before I leave yo’ ass.”

“I’m coming,” she swung the door open and was standing there looking sexy as fuck, minus the black eye she was sporting. “I thought you were the guys again.”

“Get ya shit and come on. I ain’t trying to be caught slipping. I don’t know what yo’ punk ass man done got himself into.”

She walked back in and got all her things and jumped in the car where I was waiting. When she got to the car I slid over to the passenger seat.

“Yo you driving, I don’t feel like it.”

“Okay,” she said sadly and walked over to the driver seat. For a second I felt bad but then I remembered that long ass drive that I just made. Fuck that, her ass was driving or she could stay here.

I reclined my seat and cracked open a beer as I gave her directions to the highway. She whipped my Camaro like a champ. Once we were away from the hotel I sighed a sigh of relief and relaxed and enjoyed the drive. I didn’t even realize that I had dozed off until she was tapping me telling me that we were at my place.

  “Um I—um.”

“Look you can chill here with me for as long as you need to. You know what it is with us and I always keep it real with you. You know how I am and you accept that shit so welcome home baby girl.” She didn’t say anything at first, she just stood there and cried.

  “Thank you.”

“No thanks needed, but if you go back to him then yo’ ass on ya own.” She nodded.

We walked up the stairs and she said that she wanted to shower. I already knew that I wanted her sexy ass in the bed with me every night so I showed her where to place the little bit of shit she had. She told me that when they got to where they were going that he bought just enough shit for her to survive while they were there. She wasn’t gonna be with me and looking like pure shit. We were going shopping asap.

She got out of the shower, she was wrapped up in a big ass towel with her hair in one of those messy buns. Her peanut butter skin tone was glowing, she was absolutely gorgeous and she didn’t even know it. Ortiz had stripped her of all her confidence. I just hoped she got it back and fast because I wasn’t trying to be stuck with no clingy bitch. That shit wasn’t my style.

“Denari, someone is knocking at the door.” Heaven snapped me out of my trance.

“Shit you live here too, go get that shit.” I told her and headed to the bathroom to piss.

  “Really?” she asked shocked.

“Look, I ain’t about to say that I’m about to stop fucking other bitches but I will say that I won’t disrespect you with the shit.” I shrugged because I was gonna be one hundred. She dropped her head. “You know how I feel about you, but I’m young and I ain’t trying to sell you no dreams. So, go get the door, if it’s a bitch let her know that you live here now and that if she wants to get in touch with me she need to call my phone. No more stopping by.” She lifted her head and had a devious look on her face.

She walked out of the room and I headed to the bathroom, as soon as the door opened all I could hear is Krista’s fucking mouth.

  “Who the fuck are you?”

“I live here who the fuck are you?” I hear Heaven say with a little sass. I smiled a little maybe there was more to her than I knew.

  “Where the fuck is Denari?”
r />   “I don’t think that’s your business, if you want some dick then you need to call like the rest of the hoes. There will be no more drive by dickdowns. It’s a new bitch in town.”

I decided to go and break that shit up before it got bad and then my neighbors started tripping. I did like this little fire that was emerging from Heaven though.

“The fuck you doing here Krista?”

“I came to talk to you.” She looked Heaven up and down and then turned her attention to me. “Who is this?”

“She told you exactly who she was, what do you want?”

  “So, you gotta girlfriend now?”

“What I got is none of your business, don’t you live with my brother?” Heaven’s face dropped when I said that. I forgot she was standing there for a minute.

“Can we not talk about my business in front of strangers.”

“Heaven ain’t no stranger, I know her really well.” I licked my lips and Heaven blushed.

“Anyway, I need you to talk to him and tell him that we are not fucking around please.” She rolled her eyes up into her head. “He won’t even talk to me and he’s talking about moving out, I need you to do something.”

“First off, I don’t lie and you know that.” I laughed because I was lying right there. “Second, him wanting to leave you has nothing to do with us fucking, he don’t like yo’ ass and I don’t blame him. The only thing you good for is putting them legs behind ya head, other than that you ain’t shit.”

“Fuck you Denari, you weren’t saying that before this bitch got here. You were talking about how you were gonna get this pussy anytime you want.”

“Krista shut up, if I wanted to fuck you right now you would. No questions asked.”

“Are you going to talk to him or not?”

“He’s not exactly talking to me either.” I laughed.

“Fuck, what are we gonna do?”

“We?” I gave her a questioning look. “That’s my brother he has to forgive me, but you on the other hand is a different story.”
