“No, you just don’t know how to speak to a real woman.” I turned to leave, but he jogged around to cut off my path, making me roll my eyes.

“I’m sorry. What I meant was, women that got it going on like you don’t usually be out here fighting over niggas.”

“Well, Mr. Doesn’t Know What The Fuck He’s Talking About And Keeps Putting His Foot In His Mouth, I wasn’t fighting over a nigga. I was fighting over my husband and over being disrespected.”

“Oh shit. I didn’t even peep the ring.” He pointed to it, and I started off, but of course, he followed. “So damn, you married?”

“I am. Anything else?” I stopped by my car.

“I’m Wade.” He stuck his hand out, smirking. He was handsome, but just as annoying.

  “Shanece.” I shook it.

“It was nice meeting you, Shanece. Maybe I can get your number in case Paul starts fucking up again.”

“Don’t speak his name.” My tone was stern, wiping Wade’s smile off his face. I knew he was confused by me getting upset over something seemingly small, but he didn’t know and wouldn’t know the details behind it.

“My bad. I just keep fucking up.”

“You do. Run along now. I have somewhere to be.” I got into my car, slamming the door before he could say anything.

As soon as I cracked my window, he dropped a piece of paper in the car that had his number on it. Rolling my eyes, I floored it out of the parking space and then the lot.

Still upset at Keira, I drove to the studio, figuring that was where Rahim was. It was the middle of the afternoon, so he was most likely working. When I got there, I texted.

Me: Are you at the studio?

  R: Yeah, why?

  Me: Come outside please.

Moments later, I spotted him coming down the long hallway toward the open door, so I exited my car, rounding the front, and stepping up onto the sidewalk.

  “What’s up, how you—”

“Who did you tell about us?” I cut off his greeting because I wasn’t in the mood, nor did I care for small talk with his ass.

“What? Nobody. I mean, the only people who knew were us. The homies might have guessed it but—”

  “Guessed?”

Rahim looked off before sucking his teeth.

“Some of the shit I said to Wacko and the homies might have let them know I liked you but nothing more,” he assured me. When I started to go inside of the studio, Rahim stopped me. “Aye, nah, that’s not a good idea.”

“I don’t care! If that nigga Tony is out telling my business—”

“Fuck is you talking about? You know damn well that nigga ain’t out gossiping about you and me. The fuck?” Rahim frowned as if I was an idiot, which only infuriated me further. “Only person that nigga tells shit to is his girl, and even then, I doubt he’s using their pillow time to discuss our shit that he don’t even know much about.”

“Whatever. You need to tell me how my damn husband’s nurse knows about us fucking?”

“Huh? Yo’ husband’s nurse? How the fuck would I know? I should be asking you.”

“Her!” I pulled her profile up on my phone to show him her picture. “Don’t think I’m dumb. You probably ran your damn mouth, hoping to break Paul and I up.”

“Shanece, how the hell would I know her?”

“I don’t know!” I roared, feeling tears well up. “But she knows! She said she knows! And, and, and I know. I feel it deep down that she told Paul.” I sobbed, feeling like I couldn’t breathe.

“Hey, hey, relax.” Rahim gripped my shoulders. “I know you spazzing right now, and I would be, too, to be honest with you. But listen, I didn’t tell her nothing. I’ve never even seen…” He stopped talking, allowing his eyes to dart off to the side.

“What?” I sniffled. When he didn’t speak, I repeated, “What, Rahim!”

“She was umm, I seen her at Sephora that one time.”

  “Huh?”

“When you and I stepped off to the side to talk. I saw her walk by behind you but—”

“Oh my gosh.” I damn near jumped back from him.

That was how the bitch knew. She’d eavesdropped on us.

  “Damn, I—”

  “Why didn’t you say anything!”

“I thought she was a random female, and we were in the middle of a heated discussion. I wasn’t playing detective at the moment. And how would I know she was yo’ nigga’s nurse?”

“I have to go. It was a horrible idea for me to even come here.” I started to rush off, but he grabbed my hand.

  “Shanece, baby—”

“Rahim, stop it. Go make up with your wife or move on, because it’s not gonna happen over here.”

He let my hand fall from his, shaking his head as he returned to the studio.

Getting back into my car, I just stared straight ahead, not knowing what to think. Keira didn’t say she told Paul, but of course the bitch did. She probably took photos and everything, or worse, recorded our conversation and played it for him. Then again, Paul acted normal with me, which he would have never done had he known. But maybe he felt bad for him cheating too.

Shit, I didn’t know, but I was about to drive myself insane with all of these scenarios. Paul was dead, so whether he knew or didn’t know really didn’t matter anymore.

As true as that statement was, this shit bothered me deeply. All I could think about was the time we’d spent together in that hospital and if he knew the whole time. I cringed, remembering how sweet he was in his last days, feeling worse than I already did.

I got it together enough to speed home, and once there, I cried myself to sleep.

  Eitan

“It’s pretty easy. We just have to go around and scan the things we will need for the baby registry.” Holli stared down at the gun-like scanner in her hand.

This was the last thing I wanted to do, but after thinking it over, I’d rather have done this shit and it not be my baby than haven’t done a thing and it turned out to be my kid.

In the end, if I wasn’t the father though, I felt like I might murder Holli’s ass. This whole situation had been stressful as fuck, and I didn’t need any more stress than what my career had already brought my way.

Then on top of that, not being with Rubie fucked with me still, mainly because I had jumped to conclusions and only worsened the shit by dropping a diss track spilling all her business.

“How long is this gonna take?” I asked as I followed behind her through Target. The prices on a lot of this baby shit were more expensive than my ass had expected.

Yeah, I was making a lot of money at this point, but I still didn’t wanna pay $40 for diapers.

“Not too long, if you help me.”

I listened as Holli ran off while trying to choose different shit, as I checked my phone to see if Rubie had responded to any of my texts or called back. Of course, she hadn’t, and by the time I shoved my phone down into my pocket, I caught Holli glaring at me.

  “What?”

“You need to be involved! I didn’t ask you to do this for a damn ride, Eitan!” she shouted loudly as hell, embarrassing me.

“Lower yo’ damn voice. It ain’t even all that deep for you to be hollering.” I scowled.

Holli had always been annoying, but now that I was no longer attracted to her, she was even more irritating. I hated seeing her face, hearing her voice, or even thinking about being her baby daddy.

I didn’t understand why God had done this shit to me. Why didn’t He let me impregnate a female I loved or at least liked, as He’d done for Tony? This shit was like a nightmare for me, and I was a pretty decent muthafucka, so I was confused on why I’d endured such bad luck.

“I do whatever the fuck I want, nigga! You need to help me, or you’re gonna regret it! Shape the fuck up because tomorrow morning we’re meeting with the planner for the baby shower.” She threw that last part in, making me stop in my tracks.

  “Wait, what? Baby shower?”

  “Yes, nigg
a. What the fuck do you think we’re in Target doing this for? And you need to be there because I plan to have a gender reveal. We’re gonna find out the baby’s sex together.” She smiled as she scanned a few more items, including some shit that looked like a garbage can.

“Nah. I heard father’s ain’t supposed to come.”

“Maybe when the parents aren’t together or when there isn’t a gender reveal.”

  “We not together.”

“Since when? I’m having your baby, we live together, we fuck almost every night, and even boss has us doing songs together to promote to the world.” She smirked.

  I couldn’t stand Tony’s ass.

“Look, I may roll through for the reveal, but I’m not staying for nothing else, Holli.”

“Sure.” She walked off the aisle, and I followed.

This shit took two hours and some change, so by the end of it, I was ready to wring her damn neck.

“Oh my gosh, Eitan!” some young girl screeched as Holli and I entered the parking lot.

“’Sup.” I nodded my head upward as she and her friends came closer, phones out.

  “Can I get a picture?”

  “Fasho.” I nodded.

I took a couple flicks with the females, as Holli stood off to the side, conversing with some of them about her pregnancy.

“Y’all are so cute together! Thank you!” one of the girls shouted.

“Thanks, girl!” Holli giggled, taking my hand and leading me off.

I kept quiet, getting her ass to the car, and once in, I took her to get some food. It felt like I could breathe easy again when I dropped her off at my spot and bounced.

I drove straight to Rubie’s job, and right when I was about to park, I spotted her fine chocolate ass getting in her own car. Chilling, I waited until she pulled off, and I followed her all the way to her apartment building.

“You need to be more careful.” I spoke as I followed her to her door, making her jump.

“Shit! What the fuck is wrong with you!” She let her brows furrow as she stared up at me, while standing at her door.

“I followed you from work and all the way up in here. You ain’t even notice me.”

“I was thinking, that’s why. Anyway, what’s up?”

  “You tell me?”

“Nigga, you followed me home from work and expect me to spark up conversation? Clearly you have something to say or else you’re just weird,” she snapped.

Chuckling, I replied, “Yeah. I wanna know can we talk?”

  “About?”

  “Us.”

“There is no us. If you wanted there to be an us, you wouldn’t have made that little song.”

“I told you I didn’t mean that shit and that I was sorry. I thought you cheated. Fuck you wanted me to do?”

“Well, the bed has been made.” She shrugged, pushing her door to go inside, but I trailed her. “Excuse you!”

“This is pretty clean. Old boy ain’t here, is he?”

“No. I dropped both of you nothing ass niggas.” She flung her purse onto the couch and switched to the kitchen with me on her heels.

She looked good in the work clothes, and even though she’d been working all day, she smelled nice.

Leaning in the archway of the kitchen, I watched her storm around, slamming cabinets and everything else she could as she got ready to cook what looked like salmon. Her face was twisted up, making me laugh a little bit.

  “You’re cute when you’re mad.”

“Eitan, please.” She began chopping a cucumber.

“Can I stay for dinner? I’m starving, and I miss you. I know you mad, but I’m not letting this be over.”

Saying nothing, she continued to cook, so I sat down at the table to watch. It didn’t take long for her to finish, and I was surprised when she put a plate in front of me.

“After you eat, you can go. I have some work to do,” she let me know once she finished saying grace.

I didn’t say shit, because I was hungry and didn’t want her kicking me out before I was done. So once I’d cleared my plate, I decided to say my piece.

“Rubie.” I grabbed her hand, making her freeze. “Sit down for a second and let me talk to you, baby.”

She hesitated for a few and then descended back down into the chair. She didn’t look at me, so I waited for our eyes to meet.

“I’m for real sorry, and I don’t think that song I put out is worth us losing what we had.”

“As long as you keep making it seem like the diss track was simply a song, this will never work.”

“It was though. I’m a rapper, and that’s what we do, put our feelings into a song.”

“No, putting feelings into a song is Usher’s Confessions album. What you did was Tupac ‘Hit ’Em Up’ style, name dropping, insulting, and divulging personal business, Eitan.”

“True. But see, again, Usher is a singer.” I grinned, and she shook her head, wearing a disgusted expression before hopping up again.

“I was humiliated and so embarrassed. Do you know how it feels to have hundreds of people coming at you with negative comments? Negative comments about your life and calling you all types of names because of a nigga you thought cared about you? And if you did actually care, that song would’ve never been made.”

  “Aight, aight, I’m sorry.”

“For?” She turned to look at me after dropping the scraped plates into the sink.

  “For the song.”

“No, you need to be sorry for the fact that you put my business out to the world, telling things that I only told you because I thought I could trust you as my man. That was extremely immature, and the only way I will accept any sort of an apology from you is if it’s done publicly.”

  “How?”

“I don’t know. You can figure it out, the same way you figured out how to take your ass down to the studio and record that song.”

  “Rubie—”

“Now if you don’t mind, I need you to leave so I can get back to brainstorming.”

“Brainstorming?” I stood up since she was pulling on me.

“Yes. I want to see about working for Tony.”

  “Oh shit!” I smiled.

“No, not even. I will simply be an employee of his and nothing to you. Now go.” She started pushing me toward the door.

  “Wait, hold up.”

I used my strength, planting my feet into the carpet, before turning around to kiss her big lips. She tried to push me off but eventually gave in. I wasted no time unbuttoning her top, while she unbuckled my jeans. The shit was seamless, as we left a trail of clothing on the way to her bedroom.

Once she was naked, I put her onto the bed, kneeled down, and got right to sucking her clit. She was wet already, her nectar covering my lips as I ate her hungrily.

“Oh shit.” She moaned, caressing my fresh Dutch braids.

I usually didn’t like people touching my hair when it was new, but I didn’t mind Rubie. Caressing her thighs, I lapped up all her juices as she released twice, back-to-back. Turning her body to the side, I entered her with no cap, and immediately started pounding her shit. I watched as she bit down on her supple bottom lip while gripping the comforter and whimpering softly.

“Rubie, fuck!” I called her name like always, in disbelief at how good her walls felt.

Pressing my hands into her bed, I hovered over and hammered her pussy like it was the last time I’d be inside of it. We both called out loudly, before I busted so hard, I felt my legs weaken under me.

We kissed for a minute, but once she caught her breath, she pushed me off and said, “You have to go. This was a mistake.”

“How? You was moaning and shit just like I was.”

Rolling her eyes, she got out of the bed and grabbed her robe that was thrown across the chair.

“Because I want my apology. Don’t think anything of what just happened. Take it as me being deprived of dick.”

She left the room, so I got up slowly to test m
y leg strength, then picked up my trail of clothes as she started a bath.

“Damn, I can’t even spend the night?” I stood in the doorway of the bathroom once I had my clothes on.

“No, absolutely not.” She waved for me to follow her as she slipped past me, then went to yank open her front door.

No female had ever treated me like this. I was used to having to swat them off, or in Holli’s case, fight them off.

Once on the other side of the door, I said, “So once I do this public shit, we gon’ be good?”

“We’ll see. It depends on how good it sounds. Goodnight.” She slammed the door in my face.

I stood there for a cool minute until I felt someone looking at me. Turning my head slightly, I spotted some little old lady.

“Hi, ma’am.” I waved as I started to walk her way to leave.

“That Rubie girl is like a revolving door, I see.” Her brows raised.

  “What?”

“She just kicked one guy out, and now you’re here. I wonder whose gonna come after you?” She didn’t give me a chance to respond as she slipped into what looked like an empty apartment. I assumed she was the landlord since she had a big ass ring of keys, and the spot she’d just crept up into had no furniture.

Her comments had me ready to do what I needed to, to be sure I got Rubie back. I didn’t know what her ass had seen, but no nigga was about to be with Rubie. In my eyes, she was still mine, and that wasn’t changing anytime soon.

I got home about an hour later since I’d stopped to get me some food and some for Holli’s ass too. She’d been texting me all night, but thank God for Do Not Disturb.

“Fuck is you doing!” I jumped as soon as I entered my apartment. Holli was right there in the hallway of the entrance like a serial killer, sipping wine. “And you drinking?” I snatched it.

Tugging the glass back, she took another gulp, let out a deafening burp, and then said, “Where have you been?”

  “Working.”

“No, because my brother drove by the studio and said nobody was there. It was locked up.”

Her fucking brother was getting on my damn nerves.

“I was working and then I went to chill with the homies.” I moved past her to head to the bathroom.
