Taking the papers out of the envelope we began looking through them hoping to find information on where the previous owner had moved.

“Wait, I think I’ve found something,” mom said.

Showing me the paper, she was looking she said, “This is the settlement statement, and here is Dawn Mills address.”

Pointing at it with my forefinger I said, “Mom, it looks like she lives in Center Point.”

  “Yes, it does, doesn’t it?”

“Cole at the courthouse said that Dawn’s mom lived there so I guess it’s logical that she moved there too. Maybe to look after her in her old age?”

“Makes sense. When I’m old one day will you move to be close to me so you can see about me?”

Shaking my head, I said, “Naaa, I’m just going to stick you in an old folk’s home.”

She and I both laughed at my comment.

“So, mom, you know Neil that you met at the restaurant today? Annabelle’s dad?” I asked in a suggestive tone.

“Oh boy, I know what you’re going to say.”

“What?” I asked throwing my hands up.

“You’re going to say that there was a little chemistry in the air between us, or something like that.”

“Mom, if you like him and he likes you there’s nothing wrong with that.”

“I know, but I’ve not dated in so long. I wouldn’t even know how.”

With a serious look on my face I said, “Mom, I’m pretty sure the basics will come back to you once you start, but that’s the key, you have to take the first step.”

“We’ll see. Oh, by the way, I’m off tomorrow and thought maybe we could spend a little time together.”

“That’s cool, what do you think we should do?” I asked.

“There are a couple of things we could do. We could run over to Center Point and you could see if you could find Dawn Mills and find out more about the mysterious necklace.”

“That sounds like a good idea.”

“Also, we need to take you shopping and get you some clothes to wear.”

“Why can’t I wear yours until I get changed back?”

“Honey, for one we don’t know for a fact that we are going to be able to change you back, and two you’re going to need wardrobe that a young woman would wear, not a woman in her mid-forties, despite that we are close to the same size.”

Crossing my arms, I said, “I can’t believe you won’t share your clothes with me mom!”

“Sweetie, you don’t even have your own bras and panties, which are very personal items, so we need to take you shopping. There are quite a few things that you need.”

“I’ve only been a female for a day and you’re already trying to turn me into a woman.”

“Baby, you are a woman. Plus, you’re probably going to need some other personal items, but we will tend to that tomorrow.”

Knowing that she was correct, and I truly was a woman, it might be time for me to face the fact that this might be something that I have to get used to, like it or not.

“What about this? We head over to Center Point in the morning, and if we don’t make any progress over there and find out how to change me back, then I’ll let you take me shopping. Deal?”

  “Deal.”

“Oh, and by the way mom, in the morning I’ll probably need to borrow one more outfit and a change of underwear as well if that’s okay.”

“That’s fine. Oh, and before bed I’ll loan you nightgown, so you’ll have something to sleep in.”

Oh boy! This just never ends.

“That’s ok mom, I can sleep in one of my t-shirts.”

  Chapter 10

It was about 10 a.m. when mom and I got out of the car and started up the sidewalk to the home of Dawn Mills. Hopefully, I would learn more information on the necklace which had transformed me, which I was carried in my tote bag. I was anxious about potentially being able to return to my previous state, which was not the one I was in at present.

The house was painted light blue, had a real front porch where you could sit out and watch the world go by, and had a decorative metal U.S. flag on the side of the house. There was also a washtub full of colorful flowers at the base of the porch that added a nice touch to the place as well. The place was truly All-American.

“You look very nice today,” mom said.

“Mom, with some of your comments you almost make me think you’d have preferred to have a daughter instead of a son.”

Looking at me with a frown she said, “Dana!”

“Well, ever since this happened you keep saying how cute I look and how pretty I am and all that. Now that I think about it, why did you decide to name me Dana?”

Mom stopped walking and turned toward me and as she did, I stopped walking as well.

“Since this started, I have been nothing but supportive and have helped you in every way that I know how. I know you’re not happy about this and I understand, but don’t you feel that you’re taking out your frustration on me?”

Looking down and then back up I said, “Mom, I’m sorry. You’re right, you’ve been nothing but great through this entire thing, and if I’ve seemed ungrateful or short tempered, I would like to apologize. I love you mom and don’t know what I would do without you.”

Mom gave me a hug, sniffled a little bit and said, “Oh baby, I love you so much.”

“And thanks for fixing me up with some more clothes because if it weren’t for you doing that, I would have nothing to wear.”

“You’re welcome. It was great that you were able to fit into those jeans, and that top looks spectacular on you as well.”

When I started putting the jeans on, the first thing I thought was that it was going to choke my junk and they were going to be uncomfortable. However, after putting them on I figured out that when you don’t have male equipment, they’re not so bad after all.

“Also, thanks for helping me with my hair and makeup. It’ll be a pain in the ass if I have to put it on every morning but I sure look better with it than not, so I appreciate it.”

Walking up the steps we rang the doorbell and stood there and waited. After about twenty seconds had elapsed we rang it again but no one answered the door.

We walked back down the steps and as we arrived at the bottom I said to mom, “I guess there is no one home.”

“Maybe they’re at work or something,” she said.

We walked back down the sidewalk to the car and had not yet opened the doors when an elderly man in a straw hat approached us.

  “Can I help you folks?”

“Yes,” I said, “We’re looking for Dawn Mills.”

“She’s not here. Won’t be back for five days, she went on a cruise.”

I looked at mom and said, “Darn it. I guess we’ll have to come back on Saturday then.”

“I’m her neighbor and am looking after the place while she’s gone. Oh, by the way, I’m Bob Evans, but everybody calls me Peanut.”

“Good to meet you Peanut, I’m Natalie, and this is my s…., daughter Dana.”

“Great to meet you folks. Would you like to leave a message and I’ll pass it on?” he said.

“That’s okay,” I said, “We bought the house Dawn used to live in Four Points and just had some questions about the property.”

“I’ll certainly pass that on,” he said.

Mom and I started to get in the car when I stopped and asked, “Oh, by the way, I think Dawn has a mother that lives here in town if I’m not mistaken and I wonder if you might know her.”

  “Loretta Ray,” he said.

“Yes sir, that’s right. Would you know her address?”

“Yes ma’am I do, but that ain’t gonna do you much good.”

  “Why’s that?” mom asked.

“She on the cruise with her daughter Dawn,” he said.

“Thanks for your help Mr. Evans,” I said, and he quickly replied, “You’re welcome, and call me Peanut.”

  **********

Four Points to Center Point was only about a thirty-minute drive and on the way back there was an outlet mall, so we decided to get off the interstate and see what all it had to offer.

The first order of business was to get something to eat, which was fine by me as I was starved. There was a national chain on the edge of the mall perimeter, so we stopped, went in, and got a table. The place was slightly busy but not overrun, so hopefully it would not take too long to get service. After being greeted by the waitress we perused the menu, which seemed to have a lot of nice things to choose from.

After eating we walked out of the restaurant and looked across the parking lot at the mall and mom asked, “Where to begin?”

  Chapter 11

I had no idea that shopping for clothes as a woman could be such a chore and take so long and it was 4 p.m. when we got back to the house. Mom and I both had our hands full as we entered the house, and then I had to make an extra trip to the car to bring the rest of my purchases inside. Dumping everything on my bed I said to mom, “Whew, I had no idea that shopping could be so exhausting.”

“It’s not normally dear, but we had to buy you absolutely everything.”

  “I guess.”

“Why don’t we take the price tags off this stuff and start washing it? That way you can start wearing your new wardrobe as soon as tomorrow,” she said.

It seemed like it took us forever to get the price tags off my new clothes, but finally we were done and started our first load of laundry which included my unmentionables, aka underwear. I did end up buying several bras, which were the lacy kind, as that’s what mom recommended. Believe it or not I did elect to buy thongs versus regular panties, reason being that after I wore thongs for a day and a half, I’d actually gotten used to them and decided they were not so bad after all. For the life of me I never thought I would be buying women’s underwear, especially for myself, but that just proves you never know what lies ahead of you when you wake up each day.

Anyway, in addition to my underwear purchases mom bought me makeup, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, some cheap costume rings, tops, jeans, dresses, a couples of belts. I also ended up with several pair of shoes, more than I wanted, as mom insisted a young woman needed to have an adequate selection for any occasion.

Oh, and believe it or not I also got a bikini, which I thought was totally unnecessary, but once again mom said I might want to go swimming at some point and a girl needs swimwear. At the store I tried on the string bikini and then walked out of the dressing room to show it to mom, and asked, “What do you think?”

As I did I noticed a man in his late 30’s sitting in a nearby chair, clearly waiting on his wife, who broke his gaze with his smartphone and turned it toward me, and as he did his mouth fell open slightly.

“Oh Dana, you look great. You’ll sure turn some heads with that. Turn around and let me see the back too.” As I did, she said, “You’ve definitely fill out those bottoms and a little bit of your rear is pooching out the bottom. Have you always had that curvy of a butt?”

Shaking my head, I said, “No, I think it’s more of a recent development mom.”

Then turning toward, the man in the chair she asked him, “Sir, what do you think?”

“Ummm, very nice,” he replied and then smiled.

Standing there I noticed that he was not able to take his eyes off of me, a feeling which I understood all too well, because a few days ago I was just like him. In a way I didn’t like how he was looking at me because I knew what was going on inside him, that feeling of sexual hunger you get, when a beautiful female body is standing in front of you. However, I could not condemn him because it’s natural, automatic, and beyond the control of a man and is built into his biology to perpetuate the species. In those few seconds while all this was going through my head, I had to admit that on another plane, I did kind of like it. The way he was drawn to me and couldn’t stop staring at my petite female body wearing only a few strips of fabric to cover up my most intimate parts, was actually a bit of a turn on as strange as that sounds. I know me saying on one hand I was offended and on another I liked it and was turned on by it sounds contradictory, but then again, I had become a woman, right?

Deciding I was going to test the waters a bit I walked over in front of him, smiled, and asked, “So you think it’s okay?” and then I slowly twirled around until I was facing him again.

“Yes, you look great,” he said with a great big grin on his face.

Licking my lips, I smiled and said, “Thanks for your help,” and then walked back past mom who rolled her eyes up in her head as I passed her and returned to the dressing room.

After the first load of laundry finished mom showed me how to hang up my bras to dry and that was a good thing as personally, I would have just thrown them in the dryer and called it a day. However, that’s apparently not what you are supposed to do to get maximum life out of them.

As mom and I were working on the rest of the laundry she said, “I noticed what you were doing at the store when you were trying on the swimsuit.”

Looking at her as though I didn’t know what she was talking about I asked, “What do you mean mom?”

Smiling at me with a coy look on her face she said, “You know what I’m talking about young lady.”

We both laughed at the same time and I said, “I was just having a little harmless fun, that’s all.”

  “So, how did it feel?”

  “What?”

Nodding she asked, “How did it feel when you flirted, you know, as a girl, to a boy?”

“Mom! Like I said, I was just having a little fun. What makes you think I was feeling anything at all?”

“Because I saw that look on your face when you first saw him looking at you, and then again as you walked over in front of him and spun around, waiting for a reaction, and when he gave you one I noticed how your face lit up.”

I had to hand it to her, she was pretty observant, but I guess when you’re in the business she’s in you get good at reading peoples body language and actions. Pausing, I finally said, “Mom, it’s alarming that you were able to see that, and in a way, it makes me feel a little uncomfortable, that you can read me like that.”

Smiling she said, “I always want you to feel comfortable around me sweetie, after all, I’m your mom.”

Pausing, I then said, “Up until a couple of days ago, I had lived my entire life as a guy. I’ve dressed like a man, had girlfriends, everything, you know?”

  She nodded.

“But, when I walked out of that dressing room and that guy was sitting there looking at me wearing that bikini, something happened that I never expected. I liked it mom. I don’t know if that means I’ve always secretly been gay and didn’t know it, but I really liked the attention I was receiving, as strange as that sounds. I dug it so much I walked over to him and rotated around so he could see my ass so he could flatter me some more, as you saw.”

“And how did that make you feel afterward Dana?”

  “Awesome.”

Nodding she asked, “Were you attracted to him?”

Shaking my head I said, “Initially I didn’t think so and am still not totally sure, but the more he looked at me, and complimented me, the more I liked it and thought how he seemed like a nice guy.”

Pausing for a moment I said, “I don’t know if that really answered your question,” and went back to folding laundry.

  “You did,” mom said.

After a few moments mom said, “Now that you are a biological female you may notice certain changes starting to occur as far as the way you look at men.”

“Is this in relation to what we were just talking about?”

  “It is.”

“Mom, are you getting ready to say that because I’m now a girl I may begin to develop an interest in men? Is that what you are thinking?”

“I don’t think we can rule it out, especially based on what we just talked about, and I just think you should be prepared.”

Mom, despite what happened ….”

Cutting me off she said, “I know honey, just hear me out on this okay?”

  I nodded.

“You have lived your life as a male, and your brain is tuned to operate as such, but all I’m saying is as you get used to your new life your body may be generating chemicals that change the way you think and act when it comes to sexual partners. This is something you should not be ashamed of nor be in denial of either. And, if it happens that you are drawn to the opposite sex, men, it is perfectly natural based on your biology. I’m not telling you if that’s the way it is or that’s the way it’s going to be or I approve or I don’t, none of that, as I just want to help guide you through this, and you know that I love you regardless of what orientation you are.”

I sat there in silence as I processed what mom had said and realized that there was an ounce of truth in what she’d just said, despite the fact that I didn’t want to admit it to myself. I had enjoyed flirting with that man earlier that afternoon and had really loved the attention, more than anything, but did not understand why, and on top of that I wanted more. Then I thought back to the previous evening with Annabelle and thought about my experience with her and asked myself what I liked more, my evening with her or the attention I’d gotten from that man at the store. As I processed it I realized that on a mental and emotional level I’d gotten a dizzying high from the dressing room encounter and the associated attention. Then again, my date with Annabelle was physically satisfying, and could have been even more satisfying if we’d finished, but it did not satisfy me emotionally. Emotionally? Where the fuck was this coming from? All I did was try on a swimsuit and a guy liked it. Oy vey!

This train of thought was different than anything I’d ever experienced. Being a man all my life I didn’t need emotional satisfaction, all I required with a girl was to get my rocks off, which is pretty standard when you’re a guy. This was definitely not business as usual for me and it was clear I had a lot of soul searching to do.

“Thanks mom, I’ll give it some thought.”
