  “You bet sweetie.”

After another minute of folding laundry, I asked, “So, if I decide to marry a man and have kids you’ll be okay with it?”

“Absolutely, I would love being a grandma.”

A few seconds later I asked, “And if I decide to be a raging lesbian, you’d be okay with that too?”

Chuckling she said, “I’ll be okay with that too honey, but try not to be too raging.”

Pausing for a bit she asked, “There’s not any pretty young girls you have in mind are there?”

“Maybe,” I said slowly and then shot her an impish grin.

  “Anybody I know?”

Thinking about it for a few moments I said, “Maybe.”

“Annabelle’s cute, isn’t she?” Mom said.

Looking at mom I asked, “Was it that obvious?”

She nodded and said, “I saw how you were looking at her at the restaurant, and then when I came home it seemed that you and she were a bit nervous as I walked into the living room, as though you’d just been caught doing something.”

  “Well, shit,” I said.

  “Language young lady.”

“Mom, I’m not sure how much I like you calling me young lady.”

“Would you rather I call you young man instead?” she asked.

Pondering her statement, I replied, “You know, considering the circumstances, I don’t think I’m a guy or a girl, I think I’m going to classify myself as pansexual.”

Looking at me as though I were out of my mind she asked, “Are you out of your mind?”

“No, it’s like the new thing, and I think it truly applies to me in my situation.”

“Dana, you and I both know that’s a bunch of shit ….”

“Language,” I fired back at her.

“Who you choose to date is your business, but you’re a biological female. End of story. Young lady.”

After a few moments of silence, she said, “And what you’re trying to say is that you’re non-binary, not pansexual, there’s a difference.”

“Sorry mom, I’m kind of new to all this. By the way, how are you so well versed on all this?”

Chuckling she said, “The last place I worked required us to take training on gender identity, so if you need to know anything it then I’m your gal.”

“Cool. But, are you straight or pansexual?” I asked, which mom did not think was as funny as I did.

  Chapter 12

It was noon the following day, Tuesday, and mom was off to work. She was feeling a little better about leaving me alone though still concerned, considering what had happened to me. However, she couldn’t stay home forever so it was off to work she went. I had to admit that I was growing more comfortable with the new Dana and was totally okay having some me time.

So, as mom’s car sailed down the driveway toward the main road, I closed the door and started toward the kitchen, thinking about what to have for lunch, and before I got there my phone dinged. Checking it I was that I had received a message from Midwestern Central State with the subject line reading Application for Admission.

Well, this was it. Did I get in or not? The moment of truth was at hand, so I opened my email app, tapped the message and began to read.

  I WAS IN! Woo hoo!

Right about that time the doorbell rang, and I headed towards the door to see who was here. As I opened the door, there stood Cole Murray who I’d met at the courthouse a couple of days ago. Standing there looking at him I now saw him in a light that I hadn’t before, and for the first time noticed how good looking he was, a reaction I was not expecting.

“Hi Dana, I hope I didn’t catch you at a bad time?”

“Not at all, what can I do for you?”

“I went to start my car and it looks like the battery is dead, and I was wondering if you could help me jump start my car.”

  “I’ll be glad to.”

“Oh, and to you have any jumper cables? I lent my pair to a friend and he never returned them.”

“You bet. Let me put on some shoes and grab my purse and keys,” I said.

After gathering my stuff, I closed the door to the house, locked it, and Cole and I walked down the front steps to my SUV and got in. I’d not driven my car since my transition, so I had to adjust my seat and mirrors to accommodate my new height and size, but before we knew it we were on our way next door.

Arriving at his home he pointed out his sports car to me, which was a little red European job that I knew cost a pretty penny, and in every sense of the word it was a pussy magnet.

I positioned the front left of my car as close as I could to the front left of his car where he said his car battery was located, popped my hood, got out, opened my rear hatch and got out my jumper cables. Walking back around to the front of my SUV I said to him, “Pop your hood.”

Now, with both hoods up I started connecting the cables between his car and mine and as I did, he asked, “Do you need any help?”

Shaking my head, I said, “No, I’ve got it.”

With all the cables property connected I said, “Try it now.”

He got in his car, turned the key, and it fired right up.

“Awesome,” he said, and then getting out of his car he exclaimed, “And by the way, you seem to know you way around under the hood.”

His comment did not surprise me completely because it’s not every day that you see a girl working on a car while wearing a summer dress, like the yellow floral print I had on that morning. When mom took me shopping the day before she insisted I get it because she said it looked good on me, but personally I thought it was a little short with the way it only went halfway down to my knees. I was also not used to wearing clothing that was strapless, and despite the fact that I had a strapless bra on I was still worried my titties were going to pop out.

“It’s no big deal,” I said, “Just something I learned in the Army,” and I then began to disconnect the jumper cables between the two cars.

“I definitely owe you,” he said.

“You don’t owe me anything, that’s what neighbors are for,” I said as I threw the cables into the back of my SUV.

I then walked back around to the front of my SUV and stood on my tiptoes, just barely reaching the top of the hood so I could close it, but then Cole reached up and pulled it down for me and I slammed it shut.

  “Thanks,” I said.

“By the way, did you ever get with my dad to find out that information you were looking for?” he asked.

Shaking my head, I said, “No, I found out what I needed from my mom’s closing statement, so I’m good to go, but thanks for asking.”

“Are you still thinking about going to school?” he asked.

“I just got accepted to Midwestern Central State,” I said cheerfully.

“That’s great. Did I tell you that’s where I went?”

Shaking my head, I said, “No, I don’t think you did, but I did know.”

  “How?”

“A little birdie told me,” I replied and we both chuckled.

“I’m not totally surprised; in a small town everyone always seems to pretty much know everyone else’s business.”

“I want to assure you that I found out accidentally, and was not prying,” I said.

“It’s no big deal. By the way our other next-door neighbor Annabelle goes there as well.”

  “I know.”

  “Oh, so you’ve met her?”

Nodding I said, “Yes, she’s very nice.”

Pausing he said, “Well I guess I’d better head to work.”

“You’re just now going to the office?” I asked.

“Yeah, today I only work the afternoon shift. Such is the life of a part-time employee and college student.”

“Okay, have a good day at work,” I said as I opened my door and started to climb into my vehicle.

As I shut the door, he walked up to the car window and it was apparent that he wanted to talk to me so I rolled down the glass. During t
hat second before he began to speak, I was struck once again by what an attractive and dashing man he was, something I had not historically noticed about other guys. But then again, I was not one of the guys anymore. I felt uncomfortable with my feelings on a mental level but everything inside me told me they were right, which unsettled me. But then again, who wouldn’t feel that way if they’d just been turned into a girl a couple of days ago, right?

“Thanks again Dana, and let me know if you need anything okay?”

“Okay. See ya round,” I said.

  Chapter 13

After returning to the house I finished reading the email I got from the school which told me when classes started, etc. I texted mom and shared the news with her and she was excited for me.

It was about 2 p.m. and I had just finished lunch and was trying to figure out what I was going to do the rest of the afternoon when someone rang the doorbell. After walking to the front, I pulled the door open there was Annabelle.

“Hey girl, can I come in?”

  “Sure.”

As she entered, I closed the door and said to her, “Come on into the kitchen.”

We sat down at the bar and I asked, “Oh, would you like anything to drink?”

“No that’s okay. Guess who came into the café for lunch today?”

Shaking my head, I said, “I give up.”

  “Take a guess,” she said.

“Annabelle, remember I’m new here. I could count everyone that I know on one hand,” I said as I held up my right hand and wiggled my fingers.

“Oh, I guess that’s true. Anyway, it was Cole Murray.”

  “Oh yeah?”

“He told me about how you had helped him jump start his car and I could tell from the way he was talking that you were what he was really wanting to jump,” and then she giggled.

I smiled and then said, “Annabelle!”

“Anyway, so tell me all about it. I want to see if your story is the same as his.”

Rolling my eyes upward and then back down I said, “There was nothing to it. His battery was dead, and I drove my SUV over and helped him start his car. That’s it.”

“I know, that’s exactly what he said too. But I could tell from that twinkle in his eye he was digging you.”

“Annabelle, you couldn’t tell any such thing,” I exclaimed.

Laughing she said, “I know, I’m just kidding. But I wouldn’t be surprised if he asked you out.”

  “Why?”

“Because he asked me if you had a boyfriend.”

  “He did not!”

Holding up her fore and middle finger she said, “That’s the one thing I’m saying that’s true.”

“And you’re not making that up?”

She shook her head and said, “I swear.”

I sat there silently and then shrugged my shoulders and threw my hands out and said nothing.

“Is that all you’ve got to say? A super cute guy like Cole may be asking you out and you aren’t even excited?”

“I don’t know what to say, it’s completely unexpected.”

“You’re sure cool, calm and collected. Personally, I would be super excited, and would probably be making an appointment to get my hair done, picking out a dress to wear and deciding what shoes would go best with my outfit.”

“Annabelle, I want to ask you a question.”

  “Sure.”

“If he asked me out and if I accepted would you be okay with that?” I asked.

  “Sure, why wouldn’t I be?”

“From the way you talk about him it seems that you kind of like him.”

Sitting there silently for a bit she finally said, “I do have to admit that he is pretty cute, and I wouldn’t have said no if he’d asked me out.”

“Look, you’re pretty cool and the closest thing I’ve got to a friend in this town and I have no intention of messing up our friendship over a guy, so if you aren’t cool with that all you have to do is let me know. As far as I’m concerned, you’ve got first shot at him, okay?”

“There’s something I wanted to talk to you about Dana,” she said.

“Is this about the other night?”

She nodded. “Dana, I don’t regret what we did the other night, do you?”

  I shook my head.

“Good, I do think we’d had a little bit to drink and one thing led to another and we explored a side of ourselves that well ….”

She stopped talking and it seemed she was looking for right words, so I interjected, “Is typically unexplored?”

“Exactly. I want us to remain friends, but I don’t think I’m ready to enter into a romantic relationship with you.”

I smiled and said, “It’s fine.”

“Not that there’s anything wrong with you because you’re very pretty, and if that was something I was going to pursue you would definitely be at the top of my list. However, I’m a girl that likes guys and that’s the path I want to pursue right now. You know what I mean?”

  I nodded.

“You’ve got to admit Dana, there’s nothing hotter than when a guy is laying on top of you fucking you as hard as he can. Don’t you agree?”

“Oh yeah, that’s for sure,” I said sarcastically.

Not detecting my sarcasm she continued, “There’s just no better feeling than to have that guy mounted on top of you, and for those few minutes you’re the center of his universe and you’re providing him with the greatest pleasure a man can have. And, finally, he explodes and collapses on top of you, and you know that it was because of you that he is satisfied, and the feeling that you were able to do that for him warms you from head to toe.”

The way that she talked about sex actually kind of surprised me as I’d always been under the impression that women did not talk about intercourse, well, not like that anyway.

We sat there silently for a moment and she said, “Maybe that sounds silly? Crazy? Anyway, that’s my experience.”

  “I don’t think that’s silly at all.”

After a few moments she said, “Dana, if he asks you out then go if you want.”

  “Really?”

She nodded, “Sure, you are I are friends no matter what. If he’s not asked me out after all this time then he’s clearly not interested in me, and I don’t want someone that does not want me.”

I gave her a hug and said, “You’re a great friend.”

“So are you, and the fact that you noticed how I felt and then you asked me means everything.”

“Are you sure you don’t want something to drink?”

Standing up she said, “No, I’ve got to get going, I’ve got to pick up some supplies for the restaurant before dinner and if I’m not back soon dad will be calling asking where I am.”

I walked her to the front door and as she exited I said, “Text me later and maybe we can hang out.”

“Okay I will, if I can get away from the restaurant. See ya.”

“Bye,” and I closed the door.

Walking back into the kitchen I reflected on my conversation with Annabelle. She and I were apparently not going to be lovers, well, not unless I got her liquored up, right? Anyway, I was making progress as a woman and I now had a girlfriend, just like all girls do. So, I now had someone to giggle about boys with, go shopping with, and all the things females like to do together. Despite the fact that I’d just lost my beautiful potential lover, I had found out that Cole was interested in asking me out. Normally that would not have been something that would have been of interest to me, but changes were going on inside me that I could not explain. For some reason the prospect of us going on a date was growing on me exponentially and the idea of having dinner with him, or whatever, was actually kind of exciting. All I needed to do was remain calm and wait and see if he would follow through.

  Chapter 14

About two hours had passed since Annabelle had left and I was growing a bit bored and decided I would get outside and enjoy the sunny weather as well as the swimming pool, which I
hadn’t had the chance to use with all the craziness in my life. Heading upstairs I got undressed, threw my clothes on the bed and put on my new orange bikini for the first time. Standing there in the mirror looking at myself in my skimpy swimsuit I could not help but notice what a great figure I had been blessed with as my breasts were firm and my curvy rear filled out my bottoms nicely.

Grabbing my beach towel, shades and some sunscreen I walked to the kitchen making a stop at the refrigerator to get something to drink and then headed on outside. Putting everything on the table I put on some sunscreen and then got in the water and did some swimming. After a bit I climbed out, reapplied the SPF 50, put my shades on and kicked back in a lounge chair to take in a few rays. After a short time, I hear a male voice which was totally unexpected.

Looking around to my right I saw Cole standing there looking at me who said, “I’m sorry. I hope I didn’t startle you.”

Standing up I took my shades off and said, “No, I’m okay.”

“I rang the doorbell, and no one answered so I thought I would come around the back and see if maybe you just didn’t hear the bell because you were out at the pool. I definitely did not mean to intrude or seem like some sort of a creep.”

I laughed and said, “Don’t worry about it Cole, I don’t think you would ever fall into the creep category.”

  “Thanks, I appreciate that.”

“So, what brings you to my lair,” I said and then we both chuckled.

“Oh,” he said as he removed his hand from behind his back. “I just wanted to say thank you for helping me out this morning,” and he presented me with a dozen pink roses.

Handing them to me, I said, “Thank you so much, but you didn’t have to do that.”

Nodding he said, “I know, but I wanted to.”

Standing there looking at him I was really taken with his thoughtfulness and for a moment I thought I was going to get a little misty. I could tell that he did like me as the signs were obvious, and the part that I could no longer deny was that, well, I liked him too, which was unsettling.

Stepping over to him I had this urge that overtook me and I kissed him on the cheek and said, “Thank you Cole.”

With my dozen roses in hand I said, “Let me put these in the house and I’ll be right back. Oh, would you like me to bring you something to drink?”
