  His relationship with his sergeant continued to simmer, never quite reaching boiling point, even though both would have happily become a couple. For King, the death of his wife was still too raw.

  *

  Soon after the Cranson case was wrapped up, King and Harris were finishing some paperwork relating to all the cases they had been dealing with when DC Dyson rushed in.

  “Sir, we’ve had a report that the naked body of a man has apparently been washed ashore in Hope Cove and he was wearing an expensive watch. The uniformed boys are already there.”

  “Okay, Sam. Tell them not to touch anything and keep people away from the scene. If the tide’s coming in to get the body above the high tide line: if it’s going out, just leave it where it was washed up and we’ll be there shortly.

  “Get your coats you two and let’s go and see what this is all about.”
