“Apparently, the police have been trying to find this group of people involved in drugs and sex trafficking for ages, and last night, two cars crashed into an eighteen-wheeler truck and it ended up being them.” Her eyes widen. “How crazy is that? Most of them are dead, including the big boss himself.” She glances up at me. “Are you listening or just staring at me with your smug face?”

“Yes, I heard. I just don’t care much about the news.” I take the remote control out of her hand and turn the TV off.

“I wanna ask you something,” I say firmly.

“It can’t be sex, because I need to go pick up my grandmother from the hospital and bring her home. She misses her bed, she was telling me yesterday.”

  “No, it’s not sex.”

She narrows her eyes. “Okay, so serious. What’s up?”

“Do you wanna go watch a movie with me?” Sweat trickles down my spine like a young high schooler asking his crush on a date.

“Like go to the movies?” she asks

I nod, and she narrows her eyes.

  “Sure... Is everything okay?”

I swallow hard, my hands trembling. “I want to be with you, I want you to be mine, I want to go places with you, travel, make love endlessly…”

She places two fingers on my lips, her eyes filled with tears. She grabs my shaky hand and kisses the palm of it.

“I have always been yours, Liam.”

  “I love you,” I whisper.

“I love you more, Mr. Adams.”

  EPILOGUE

  Alyssa

  3 years later

The sun shines bright through the windowpane, blinding my sight. I take a quick glance at the clock sitting on my side table. 7:15 a.m.

I get up, get dressed in my pajamas, and put my robe on. I suddenly remember what today is, and grief hollows me out. I head downstairs to the kitchen and pour myself a glass of milk. I drink it as I turn the coffee machine on and place the mug under it. I look through the window to the backyard and realize that the garden needs a lot of work.

But not today; today is a day for mourning and remembering.

  “Morning, baby.”

I turn to face him. He is dressed, as always, in a fancy, elegant suit. He walks toward me and gives me a peck on the lips.

  “How are you feeling?”

He tucks a lock of hair behind my ear, and I rest my head on his chest.

“It’s been a year already.” My voice is low. He buries his hand in my hair and starts petting it.

“I know, babe. I have a meeting of two hours and then I am off for the rest of the day.” He pauses. “We can then go visit her grave.”

“I miss Grandma so much.” Tears fill my eyes as I pull back to look into his shining, gray eyes. “Do you want to visit both her and your mom afterwards?”

He smiles genuinely. “Sure, my love, whatever you want.” He kisses my forehead.

“Mrs. Adams.” Liam and I both turn our attention to Will.

  “Yes, Will,” I say

“Your big order just got delivered. Do you want me to get my men to move the boxes upstairs to the nursery?”

“That would be great. Thanks, Will.”

I pull away from Liam’s arms and turn to face the coffee machine. “Here’s your coffee,” I say while handing him the mug.

“Thanks, babe. I will see you later, okay?”

I nod, and he kisses my temple.

As he starts walking, I feel a flutter in my stomach.

“Babe, wait.” I start feeling my stomach while pressing gently.

“Are you okay?” he asks worriedly.

“I think the baby just moved.”

He rushes toward me, places his coffee mug on the counter, and starts rubbing my stomach.

“There, you feel it?” I hold his hand and move it to the center of my belly.

“Yes, I do.” He laughs quietly.

“I should just cancel this meeting, fuck it,” he adds.

“No, Liam, go. It’s just two hours. Will and his men will help me set up the nursery room.”

I tiptoe to give him a peck, but he ends up sliding his tongue in between my lips. I feel his erection against my stomach. He pulls back and looks down at it.

“Oops, looks like someone is getting in the way.”

A genuine laugh escapes my mouth, making my sorrow ease a little bit.

“Okay, go now, I need to go upstairs.” I say.

He starts walking toward the door, and as soon as he places the palm of his hand on the doorknob, he turns to face me.

  “What now?” I chuckle.

“Did I ever tell you that you are the best thing that has ever happened to me?” He narrows his eyes, and I can’t help but smile at how blessed I am to have an amazing husband like him.

“I love you too, Mr. Adams.”
