  “You saw the banking information?”

Gavin searched his laptop files. “Yes, and I’ll do my best with my contacts to see what I can find out, but I can’t guarantee I’ll get into the federal banking system. You know there are so many protective filters and programs. I can’t ensure my contacts will feel safe enough, especially with how long your mother has been tangled with the Tomassos. I already put out an inquiry to my contact woman at the Federal Reserve.”

Feeling overwhelmed again, Charlie sighed. “I just can’t believe my mother has been doing this for years with the mafia.”

“Well, to be honest, we always knew something was up with your mother. I hate to say it, girl, but your mother isn’t the nicest person, and you know it.”

Charlie nodded, staring at the table.

The barista came out, holding a tray with their sandwiches. “Here you go. Is there anything else I can get you?”

Gavin answered for both of them. “This looks wonderful, thank you.”

Charlie picked up the conversation where it had been interrupted. “I know you’re right, Gavin. My mother was always a little... conniving. I just knew something wasn’t right. My mother and father haven’t had a relationship in years; it’s like they’re roommates in the same house. I’m not even going to say they were friendly because it wasn’t unusual to see hostility between them.”

“I know, doll. You’ve said that. I’m sorry your life has been, and is, so difficult.” He reached out, covering her hand with his.

Charlie felt the familiar sting behind her nose that accompanied her unwanted and unshed tears. He was a good friend. What would she do without Gavin?

Which is why I need to be careful.

The Tomassos had proven that kidnapping wasn’t an issue, and they would do the same with Gavin, if not kill him outright. She’d never forgive herself.

“I need to keep you safe, Gav. What... I can’t lose you.”

“You won’t, doll. Trust me; I’m made of stern stuff. Remember, I did the Coast Guard for years. I have some military skills, not like your hunky spanker, but I can handle my own and keep you safe as well.”

“I don’t want it to come to that, Gavin. I need—Maybe I need to just...”

“No! Absolutely not. First, this is investigative reporting; it’s my job too. It’s what we do; we take risks. Second, you’re my friend, and you’ve been kidnapped by a contractor working in coordination with the FBI to take down the biggest mafia family we have around here. I’m not abandoning you.”

“I know you’re right, but we need to be safe in the process.”

“The info you gave me and what we know along with the people we have to watch—when this story comes out—it’ll blow the top off. Then we’ll rescue your mom, letting the FBI take care of the rest. And then, life will just move on as normal again.”

Charlie smiled. “That sounds nice. I would like things to go back to normal, at least a new normal. It’s important to keep Logan in the dark, making our plans and executing them covertly.”

Charlie saw Gavin sit up straight, his eyes wide.

A deep, threatening voice said, “You’re not going to do any such thing.”

  Logan.

Charlie jumped, her heart galloping within her chest, and she spun around in her chair, looking up into very dark and angry green eyes.

  Whispering, she said, “Hi, Daddy.”

Logan growled, “We’re going to do this quietly. You’re going to get your ass up and walk out with me or, I swear to Christ, I’ll paddle your ass right here in the middle of this coffee shop.”

Charlie was paralyzed. They were in public. She was with Gavin. And strangers.

Logan raised his eyebrows and with a small cant of his head, he said, “You heard me, right? Is that what you want? Is that what you want me to do? Get. Up.”

She had never heard him so angry. Charlie bolted up.

His hand gripped the upper part of her arm in a vise-like hold, and before he could drag her away, he pointed his finger at Gavin. “I don’t know who the fuck you are but you need to leave this alone. The FBI is handling this. My men and I don’t need any interference. She’s safe. I’m going to make sure she’s taken care of, and I’d appreciate it if you would just go away, slip back to whatever hole you crawled out of and leave her alone. Besides, she’s mine.”

Gavin didn’t even respond; he just lifted both of his hands. It was all Logan needed.

  “I’m sorry, Gavin—”

Those three words were all she could say before she was unceremoniously taken away from the table. His large hand gripped the back of her neck, and he propelled her through the coffee shop as one would a misbehaving child in a restaurant.

If she weren’t so afraid, Charlie would have chuckled at how aptly the description fit her, but now wasn’t the time.

Logan flung the passenger door open, depositing her on the seat, reaching across her body, buckling her seatbelt. He walked around the front of his truck, never taking his eyes off of her, and once inside the truck—the one she had stolen—he held his hand out. “Keys. Now.”

  “Logan, I just want—”

“Give me the goddamn keys. You don’t get to talk yet; we’re not discussing this at all. The only way it’s going to be discussed is with me talking and you listening, then once I’ve calmed down, we’ll go into details. But, until then, you’re going to listen, and you’re going to listen to what I have to say with my mouth—and with my hands. Now give me the fucking keys.”

She grabbed her bag and rummaged in it, finding his large fob, gingerly putting it in his waiting palm. His huge hand. And she couldn’t help but wonder how red and hot her ass would become from that same hand.

His truck’s engine roared, trembling with the power. Throwing it into gear, he pulled out of the parking lot and punched a button on the steering wheel. “Call Marcus.”

  “Hello.”

“Hey Marcus, it’s me again. I have the package. We’re going back to the garage. Follow that idiot she was with and let me know who the hell he is, where he lives, and anything else you know about him. Also, I want someone watching him and his place of residence until this fucking situation is over. We’re not going through this again. I want everyone arriving at the shop late tomorrow. I got business to take care of, and I’m not going to deal with all of this shit the garage entails.”

“Boss, what do we do about the customers who are scheduled in the morning?”

“Handle it. Someone call them and tell them the appointments are canceled and reschedule them. I don’t care what the fuck you do. I need privacy and time to contact the FBI, letting them know what’s just happened. And I got to take care of this incorrigible brat sitting next to me.”

The snicker on the other line embarrassed and, at the same time, pissed her off. Charlie hated that these men had an inclination of their dynamic, but she had no say about that right now. Her ass crawled in anticipation of the comeuppance that was due her.

Logan barked into the phone, “Fuck you, Marcus. I’m going back now. Make sure you keep an eye on that guy. What the fuck is his name, Charlie?”

  “Gavin Lockwood.”

“Say it louder so the man can hear.”

She cleared her throat, finding her voice, forcing it to rise above the lump in her throat, fear coursing through her veins. “His name is Gavin Lockwood. He’s my friend and a reporter. He’s a nice man, don’t hurt him... Please.”

Logan gritted his teeth and his eyes narrowed. “You heard the girl, keep your hands off of him, just keep an eye on him. By the sounds of it, she cares for him so make sure nothing happens to him.”

Without even so much as a goodbye, he depressed the button again, and the cabin fell into silence. She watched his hands clenching and unclenching on the wheel, and if he took his right hand away from the wheel, it rested on his muscular thigh, twitching.

I wonder if his hand itches as much as my ass?

  It would be a pain
ful discussion. She had no doubt she’d find out as soon as he parked in the garage.

After a lengthy, uncomfortable silence, Charlie couldn’t stand it one minute longer. “I’m sad, Daddy. I’m sorry.”

Without taking his eyes off the road, his voice dropped to a frightening whisper. “Charlotte Anne Winslow. I already told you we’re not discussing this. Just for once, can you just obey and keep your damn mouth shut while I think about this?”

  “Yes, Sir.”

Placing her hands together in her lap, Charlie worried. Maybe she had not only put herself and Gavin in danger but maybe she had actually put her mother in danger as well. But Charlotte knew she could investigate this and assist in the situation, and on top of that, it could be the break her career needed, giving her a promotion as a reporter in D.C.

However, she hadn’t really given much thought to the fact that she could have alerted the Tomassos with her research, and global positioning would indicate it had come from Logan’s undercover garage.

She wished they could stay in the vehicle for hours, and yet part of her just wanted him to pull over on the side of the road and get it over with. The ride seemed much shorter going back to the garage than it did when she went to meet Gavin.

Logan pulled into the driveway and activated the bay door, slipping his truck into his normal spot, shutting the engine off and throwing it into park.

Without even so much as a cursory glance, his rumbling growl vibrated through her core. “Get your ass in the house.”

She ran out of the vehicle like it was on fire and rushed ahead of him, taking the stairs two at a time up to the flat. Once up there, she wasn’t sure what his expectations were and was hesitant to assume at this point either, so she just stood with her arms crossed over her chest.

“I want you to take your clothes off. All of them.”

She had been so lost in her thoughts, Charlie didn’t hear him enter the room. “Wait... what?”

“Don’t start your shit with me. You heard me the first time. Just do it!”

It was the voice that said Move your ass... and don’t you dare disobey. It was the voice that made her feet and hands move against their will. She was already skimming her jeans over her hips; kicking her feet, she stepped out of the denim and then grasping the hem of her shirt, she slipped it over her head, adding it to the pile. Charlie swallowed hard and unclasped the bra from behind, letting the thin strap slide down her arms, the silky material whispering to the floor, which left her panties. Hooking her thumbs into the small scrap of material, she pushed them down until they landed on the top of her feet, adding the white underwear to the top of the mound, making it look like a snowcapped mountain.

Charlie knew enough about Logan’s needs and wants to not cover her breasts or pussy, although the urge was so strong. Her body began trembling with nerves, gooseflesh rising on her skin.

“I want you in the corner over there.” He pointed with his long slender forefinger, his muscled arm outstretched, indicating a corner near the television.

The corner? He had never done that before. In addition, she was used to doing all of this in the privacy of his bedroom, and it felt strange to be in the living quarters, but who was she to argue at this point. She briskly walked to the corner, stepping forward, so her toes touched the wall.

“Nuh-uh, back up a bit. Bend over, and spread your bottom cheeks with your hands.”

“You cannot be fucking serious... Uhm, never mind.”

Putting his hands on his hips, Logan readjusted his stance. “Careful with that, girl, my patience is worn, and I won’t be tolerating your sassy mouth. Do as you’re told.”

She had already started obeying, and his words made her comply even quicker.

She opened her cheeks at a snail’s pace until the cool air in the room brushed along her little hole.

The vulnerability she felt was more than any other situation she could think of. The embarrassment had her clenching and unclenching.

“Ohhh, that little hole is winking at me ever so sweetly.”

“Oh, Jesus.” Her neck heated with her blush.

“I’m looking right at it, girl.”

  “Logan, it’s embarrassing.”

  “Who am I again?”

Charlie knew the rules. Knew how she was supposed to address him. “Sorry. Daddy, it’s embarrassing.”

“It is at that. Imagine how embarrassed I felt in front of my men, and now I have to explain to my boss what you did and how you took my truck, contacted someone, and sent him files. Imagine the embarrassment I’ll feel. Whatever you’re going through cannot even match that, trust me.”

She wanted to argue and tell him that at least his anus wasn’t pointed at someone while he stood naked, but knew that would only get her spanked and she knew she already had that coming. She didn’t need to add to it.

His booted feet sauntered toward her; she bent over more, watching his progress and shivered once he was close enough to swat her ass, clenching her little hole again.

“No. Don’t clench, push back. Open your bottom hole.”

She had barely bore down when the burning insertion had her jumping, attempting to stand.

His large hand pressed the small of her back. “Nuh-uh, stay where you are. You need this lesson.”

Panting with the uncomfortableness, she did as he requested.

  “What’s Daddy doing, bad girl?”

She keened loudly. “He has his finger—”

Pausing, Charlie decided it was too difficult to say. She couldn’t say it—wouldn’t say it.

“Speak, girl. What’s Daddy doing with his finger?”

She shifted on her feet and gasped because he pushed harder with her hesitation and movement.

“Ow, ow! Daddy has his finger in my little hole.”

He pumped it in and out at that point, the burn not fading due to his rapid movements. “Why is Daddy doing it, naughty girl?”

“I don’t remember,” she lied. Couldn’t help herself even though she knew better.

He jammed his finger harshly into her, accompanied with a crisp slap to her hip. “Do you think you can remember now, or should I add another finger?”

“Ohhhhhh, noooo! Okay. Okay, I remember.”

“I kind of thought you would. Hurry up before I change my mind.”

“Uhm... okay... okay. I... you... your finger is in my bottom hole to... to remind me who is in charge. Daddy is in charge! Daddy makes the rules.”

“Oh, so you did remember. Were you lying?”

“I... no.” And then she realized that would mean she was lying now and she’d lose no matter what. “Yes. Yes, Daddy. I lied.”

“And you remembered that you weren’t supposed to leave in my truck or look at my computer either, didn’t you?”

  “Yes, Sir.”

“How does Daddy deal with lying?”

“Ohhhhhh. Do I have to say?” She definitely didn’t want to discuss this. Definitely. She had two lessons with lying, and neither was even remotely gentle.

  “How?” He slapped her thigh—hard.

“Ow. Ow! You spank my backside with the lying paddle or belt.”

“And which do you think you deserve tonight? Be honest, or I’ll decide for you.”

  Jesus H. Christ.

She didn’t want him deciding, but she didn’t want to decide either. Charlie keened, and Logan wiggled his finger within her, his other hand pinching her sit spot. She jumped and jostled him—the pain and pleasure had her clit throbbing.

  “Dadddddy.”

  “Answer, girl.”

“I guess I was extra bad today, so the belt?”

He stilled his movements. “You said it with a question. Are you sure?”

  “Noooo.”

He laughed. “I have to give you credit for being honest, both times. The belt it is. I have some more questions first. Who is Gavin?”

“He’s a friend. He works with me at the paper. We’re reporters together, and I th
ought he could help me.”

  “Help you how?”

“By investigating the Tomassos and where my mother is located. I had the address from your laptop and the address of the crime family, as well. I figured he could do some legwork and maybe do a report, helping us.”

Logan jammed his finger into her again, spanking her backside several times, showing no mercy. “Do I look like I need help? Did I ask for your help? What made you think I needed you and this guy, Gavin? The whole fucking FBI is involved, and I have a dozen men working under me.”

Charlie braced her hands on the walls of the corner, sobbing pathetically. Not only from the spanking but guilt as well. “I don’t know. I just felt weird sitting here and doing nothing when it’s my mother and... well, you... and it feels like everybody I care about is in danger, so I thought anything I could do would help.”

“We’ll take care of that craziness. You’re going to learn I’m in charge and the one who will protect you. Not the other way around. If I need your help, I’ll be the first to let you know.” Clearing his throat, Logan asked, “One more question. Have you slept with Gavin? Are you two in a relationship?”

She looked over her shoulder at him and could see his eyes were soft—no anger or sadness, but his lips were tight, and he appeared a bit worried.

“No, not in the least. Gavin is my gay friend, as a matter of fact; he’s hoping maybe you have a brother or someone you know who is gay. He wants nothing to do with me in that manner. Gavin is just protecting me and being a good friend.”

Exhaling, Logan’s whole demeanor relaxed. The worry lines around his mouth and the furrow between his brows vanished. Smiling, he said, “I’m so relieved.” Placing his hands on his hips once again, his gaze narrowed. “One more question. Did you think about how angry I’d be about what you did? Or did you think about what would happen if the Tomassos kidnapped you while you were at the coffee shop?”

Here was the test. Should she be honest or just tell him no, it never occurred to her? Logan might be brighter than that; he knew she was smart enough to weigh the cost. She knew enough about mafia and dangerous situations to know what risk she was putting herself in. And, at this point, she was already going to be spanked for escaping, taking his truck, sending his files, betraying him, and lying.
