“Maybe I can. I’m good at fixing problems.” I give her an innocent wink. Hoping to gain her trust.
“It’s just no one cares about me, I’m such a huge fuck-up. To be honest, mister, the world would be better without me.”
I want to hold her in my arms and say, “Everything will be okay, don’t take your life. You’re young and have no idea what the future holds,” but instead I tell her a story.
“You know I knew someone who may have had thoughts like this. I’m not sure, because she never came to me, not once. She accepted me for who I was, called me out on my bullshit, laughed with me. I thought we had a great relationship, that she could talk to me about anything. See, she took her life because… I’m not sure why, but I can only speculate. That she was alone in this world, but what she didn’t realize is that when she left this world, she took a part of me with her. Now I’m here feeling lost and empty every time I think of her; she was pregnant, you know. Now all I have is my grandmother, who I know will not live forever, but I want her to. I can’t bear having her leave me as well. I’m telling you this because if you can think of one person that you love, or that loves you, then you should give life a fighting chance.”
When I finish talking, tears are falling down my face. The young girl hands me a Kleenex. I glance at her, and she’s crying too.
“I don’t know you, sir, but seeing your pain over your loved one makes me not want to cause that to my family. Thank you for sharing something so personal. I’m going to go inside now.”
Watching her walk through those doors, it’s like a bag of weights has been lifted off me. I look up to the sky and mouth “thank you” to Sam. I know she’s the only one who could have given me the courage to speak to the young lady about something I never talk about to anyone. Opening this site is helping people, and at least I can honor Sam like this. With a deep breath, I stand, throw my cup away and begin the walk back to my office. I’m sure Randal is driving around looking for me, but before I had a driver, walking around was how I remained sane.
As I’m getting close to my own building, I don’t see Randal, which doesn’t seem right. I pull out my cell and call him.
“Randal, I’m okay. I made it back to the office.”
“Sir, please don’t do that, I’ve called you a few times, but didn’t get any answer.”
“I’m fine, besides who would ever expect me to be walking, with the kind of clientele I handle? Relax. I’ll be out at the end of the day.”
He disconnects the cell. I believe he has hung up on me! Hanging up on me, indeed. I must have really upset him. I decide to let it go.
When I get inside, Nora looks relieved. I nod and go into my office. After all that walking I’m glad to relax in my comfortable chair.
Now I can focus on business again. I page Nora, and presently she walks in with her tablet.
“Are you ready to finish, Nora?”
“Yes, Mr. Montgomery, I am.”
We work through the rest of the day with no interruptions.
CHAPTER 6
SILVIA
It’s late in the day, and I’m sitting in my office with Jaxson’s note in my left hand and vitamin water in my right. I can’t put either of them down. All day my mind has been on Jax’s note. He wrote this beautiful note for me that would make any woman want him. Yet I can’t help but wonder whether he did it on purpose to make me forget his lies. He’s given me the reason, and it sounds like it could be true, but I also thought he was awesome, and now he doesn’t seem as perfect as he did when we first met.
I read it yet again. This must be the hundredth time, and I already know every word by heart, but I just can’t stop myself.
My beautiful Silvia,
Last night, I want you to know I meant each word. I’m not perfect and I know I could have dealt with the situation differently. If it makes you feel better, I wish I didn’t know your family, but I do. Sleeping with you last night felt right. Nothing else mattered to me but you. You make me think of a future with little ones, a house with green grass and road trips. See, Silvy, I’m only thinking of this because of you. You make me want to have all those things, and before meeting you, there was nothing. So, not being with you is not in my mind, all I think about is being with you. I’m leaving you sleeping, but I’ll be in touch soon!
JM
PS: The no sex thing gave me blue balls…
I smile at the note again; Jaxson knows how to make a girl fall in love. Wait, am I really in love with him? If I look back on the past months, then I would have to say yes, I’m in love with Jaxson Montgomery, but it doesn’t change the fact that he did some sneaky shit.
As I fold the paper and slip it into my desk drawer, Roslyn and Franky come bursting into my office. Well, not Franky, actually; Roslyn does the bursting in, Franky just follows her.
“Silvy, I have an idea! I’m going to hook you up with someone, so you can forget that asshole.”
“Roslyn!” I snap. “Why would you even think of discussing my personal business with your assistant in here?”
Roslyn knows perfectly well that I don’t like people knowing my business. This is unacceptable; I don’t know Franky, and who’s to say he won’t talk to the press.
“Silvy, don’t worry! Franky and I are more than friends.” She gives me a wink like that makes it better. It makes it worse.
I can’t believe Roslyn, damn it. Now she’s sleeping with him, this could be considered sexual harassment. She’s his boss, technically.
“Are you sleeping with him?” I glare.
“We wouldn’t call it sleeping.” She smiles. Franky looks at me, and for the first time, he doesn’t look like a nerd. He actually is quite attractive, but that’s not the point.
“Silvy, look. I know you think I’ve betrayed you, but don’t worry. Franky would never tell your business.”
I can’t believe her, and she’s standing in front of me with a huge smile. I turn towards my computer and start looking at emails, trying to let her know without screaming at her that I’m pissed.
“Silvy, come on,” she pleads. “Let me fix you up with a date.”
I lose it. “NO!” I yell. “I’m still seeing Jax, so go fuck your whatever he is.”
She looks shocked, and Franky even smiles slightly. Roslyn comes and sits down in the chair at my desk.
“Silvia, you can be mad at me, but don’t settle for a loser. You are much too important to me.”
“He’s not a loser. And from now on, since my personal life is up for discussion with your bed buddies, let’s keep our conversation about the weather.”
“Franky, please leave me and my friend alone,” Roslyn says to him.
“Yes, of course.” He leaves the office.
Roslyn and I stare at each other for a long moment.
“Silvy, you know sometimes I get ahead of myself, but I’m sorry. I love you, you know? If Franky ever says anything I’ll cut his balls off myself.”
Sighing, I lay my head on the desk.
“Ros, look, I know you mean well, but I can’t go on a date with someone else. I’m still into Jax. And don’t ever tell my business to Franky.”
“I love you, girl, and I don’t like fighting with you, I almost start crying.”
I get up from the desk and she meets me before I reach her, wrapping me into a hug. I cling to the comfort.
“Roslyn, you think Franky thinks I’m crazy?”
“He might, but who cares? I can handle him, trust me.”
After a few minutes, I decide it’s late, and we need to go home. Roslyn and Franky leave together, and I leave with Simi. I tell him to stop at the coffee shop where I met Jax. Even though I never drink coffee this late, I want to go back to where it all started.
As soon as I walk through the doors, my eyes go to the table where we sat, that first day. I order coffee with a pastry. Once I’m in the car and driving home, Simi turns down the music and speaks.
“Ms Demetri, I know it’s not my busine
ss, but did Mr. Montgomery join you yesterday evening?”
I should have known Simi would see him coming.
“Simi, thank you for looking out for me. I’m considering giving Jax a chance. He makes me happy.”
“For the record, Miss. You deserve to be happy, and if he makes you happy, I will not pull him apart unless you tell me to.”
I start laughing, and Simi is quiet the rest of the way home.
***
After dinner, I can’t help but look at the fireplace, thinking of Jaxson here with me last night. I’m not sure what got into me, letting him come over, but I don’t regret having him here.
Deciding on a long bath with some soft music playing, I lean back in the jetted tub and try to relax. I hear my cell ding, and wonder who it can be. Maybe Jaxson is giving me the details about our night out dancing.
It’s not Jaxson at all, but my brother.
Hey, I hadn’t heard from you, are you doing ok?
I read the text and know it’s not about him having not heard from me, but more like am I still seeing Jax.
I’m doing great, thanks for checking up on me.
No problem, call me some time.
Sure I’ll catch up with you soon.
He sends a thumbs up, and I send one back. I’m not talking about this with Nox. I push him far away from my thoughts and go back to my happy place.
When I’m done with my bath, I wonder why I still haven’t heard from Jax. As I slip on my robe and climb into bed, I am still wondering. Maybe his note was all lies, and he only said that to make me forget about his dealings with my family.
That’s when the intercom goes off. It’s security downstairs, announcing Mr. Montgomery. I smile, tie my robe tighter and go to the door. When I see Jax, a warmth fills my entire body. I’m not sure if it’s the wine I had with dinner or the fact I’ve been thinking of him.
A wicked grin lights his face. “Damn, baby! You’re looking at me like you want something.”
“Don’t smile like that, and no, I’m not looking at you like that.”
He walks over to me, licking his lips.
“You took a bath, the fresh vanilla makes me want to taste you.”
My eyes open slightly, and then I get back to what I want to ask, namely, what he is doing here.
“Jax, you didn’t say you were coming over. I thought you would text the details about dancing.”
Then I notice he has a bag with him. I frown up at him. “Why do you have a bag?”
“Well, I figure I owe you a full night and breakfast since I had to leave this morning.”
Even though that’s sweet, he’s wearing me down, being constantly in my home like this.
“You should have called me, we still haven’t decided about the…”
“The what, Silvy? I’m just trying to prove to you that being with you is important to me.”
I shake my head and walk away. I don’t even want to think about Jax in my home with an overnight bag.
More than likely, if Jax didn’t know my family, and we had never taken that break of not speaking, spending the night with each other would be happening with no reservations. The thing is, though, that those things did happen, yet Jax seems to expect that I can just move forward with him like there’d never been that breakdown in trust.
Jax sits next to me on the sofa.
“Silvia,” he says calmly, “if you want me to leave I will. If that’s really what you want.”
“No, you’re here now, and to be honest, I like having you around. I’m just trying to get over… you know.”
“I like being around you, too, and yes, we have to work through some things. I need to gain your trust.”
I turn around to face him and my robe parts slightly, exposing my breast. Jax smiles at me and licks his lips in that sexy way. I try to speak, but he leans towards me, and even though I should resist, I don’t. I allow him to push me gently to my back. The robe opens even more, and Jax leans down and takes one of my breasts in his mouth. I moan softly at the sensation of his mouth on me.
Jaxson cups my breasts and squeezes as he looks at me.
“Baby, I want to be inside you, kiss you all over, but I want you to want me.”
I pull him toward me and lift up a little to kiss him. Our tongues touch and that is enough for Jaxson. My robe is nearly off my body, Jax pulls his shirt over his head, and I get to admire his amazing chest. My hands are in his hair as he licks, kisses and softly bites my nipples.
“I want you,” I moan.
Jaxson kisses me all the way down to my toes as he starts back up. I open my legs wider for him. I feel so wanton widening my legs for him, but I want him so much. With his eyes on me, he slips in one finger as his thumb rubs my clit. The pleasure is so intense that I reach for him, but he shakes his head. I throw my head back, not wanting him to see my face. I climax with his fingers, and as soon as my body is coming down from the first orgasm, Jax has slipped off his pants and pushes inside me. He wraps my legs around his back, and with one hand above my head on the sofa and another on my hip the rhythm starts. He thrusts inside me, over and over until I’m pulling at him wanting more. He kisses my forehead and continues until my legs begin to shake.
“Come for me, Silvy,” he breathes.
It’s all the encouragement I need before I’m squeezing my thighs, biting his shoulder and falling down the hot, dark hole of pleasure. Jaxson follows me soon after, finding his own release.
We both needed to connect with each other sexually as much as mentally.
CHAPTER 7
JAXSON
I’m in bed with my woman. After a night of sex on the sofa, the floor and the bed, she’s sleeping beautifully. Looking at her and touching her soft skin makes me feel guilty, knowing that my dealings with her brother are not what she thinks.
Wrapping my arms more tightly around her, I wish I could be totally honest with her, but she would only hate me if I told her that her brother dated my sister and they broke up, yet my sister couldn’t move on and killed herself. Now I’ve fallen for the sister of the man I hate, and nothing’s going to change. I’m not going to tell her about my sister, but I must make sure she doesn’t find out some other way.
Silvy begins to stir and I pull her closer, tighter. She smiles at me and tries to pull away.
“Jaxson, I need to go wash my face, I’m sure I look horrendous, especially after you totally messed up my hair.”
“You loved it, gorgeous, now give me a kiss.”
She shakes her head no, and is determined not to give me a morning kiss.
“Jax, my breath, please let me go brush my teeth and wash my face.”
“No, the reason I spent the night was to see you in the morning, stop being proper and give me a sloppy kiss. Don’t worry, I didn’t brush my teeth either.”
I flip her onto her back and start tickling her while she gasps for me to stop.
“Please Jax, you are not being fair.”
“Oh, I’m not,” I say, continuing to tickle her. Finally, she agrees to the kiss.
I lean down, and slowly I plant a soft kiss on her lips. She tries to play like kissing in the morning is horrible. I pinch her nipple, and as soon as she opens her mouth, my tongue is in her mouth taking control of the kiss, deepening it. I lift up her leg and place it on my shoulder.
“Are you sore?”
“Yes, but I want you.”
I angle my shaft right at her entrance and push through her pleasure. Closing my eyes, I enjoy the warmth of her all over me. I can’t hold on long, so I squeeze one breast in my hand while I suck on the other. Her legs start shaking and I know she’s close.
“Come for me, I won’t unless you do too, baby,” I pant.
That’s all she needs because she starts to scream out in pleasure and I start pumping faster as my release comes. I roll onto my back taking her with me, so she is lying on top of me.
“Jax,” she pants, “we both need to get ready for work.”
“I know, I’ve been waiting for you to wake up, my dear.”
Silvy lifts her head and looks at me strangely, and then flops back down. Ever since that call, she doesn’t trust me like before, and it hurts me more than I’m used to. It’s my fault, because falling for Silvia Demetri was not in the plan, in fact, I had planned to leave her like her brother did my sister, but I can’t and won’t do that to her. She’s eased her way into my heart, and that is something I take seriously.
“Jax, I have work to do. There’s a shower down the hall.”
I burst into laughter and sit up, taking her with me, then I lift her, and climbing out of the bed. I walk us both into the shower and turn it on.
“Ahhh Jaxson,” she laughs. “You could have said you wanted to use my shower.”
“Yeah, but I think this is more fun, don’t you?”
We shower together; I even use her vanilla shower wash. Silvy seems a little shocked, but then she keeps washing. I take advantage and get a good look at her perfect body. She has long legs, and even her back is beautiful. I must remember to kiss it next time. We both step out. She goes to her massive closet and I go to the bag I brought. I’m happy to find I managed to fold my suit for work, so it comes out the way I like it.
Once I’m finished dressing I wait for Silvy, who takes another twenty minutes.
“We don’t have time for breakfast, but we can stop at your favorite coffee shop.”
“Thank you, Jax, I plan to. Is Randal downstairs?”
“Yes, he’s waiting for us.” I pick up her briefcase.
She frowns and reaches for it, but I pull it away.
“Jax, I have a driver and so do you, and we go in opposite directions.”
“Not today, I’m going to take you to work, get your favorite coffee with a breakfast sandwich and see you off.”
“Jax, please….”
“Silvy, look. Let me treat you like you should be treated. I want to spoil you like a man should do for the woman in his heart, I know you can take care of yourself, but let me do that today.”
