I locked my gaze to his, already silently begging him to disagree with me before I voiced my next thought. “We can’t keep Opal.”
Aiden sighed. “No. We can’t keep Opal. The witches would lose their shit. And …”
“And?”
“And you don’t want the kind of ties they’d force on you, if they’d even consider granting you guardianship. With me in the equation …” He shook his head. “And Paisley. Witches would not react well to Paisley.” He settled his gaze on me. “We can watch over Opal in other ways.”
“Okay.” I brushed my fingers over the faded runes on his shoulders. Magic sparked between us, leaving a tangible trail across his skin.
He sucked in a quiet, satisfied breath.
“Stay with me, Aiden Myers?” I whispered.
“I thought you’d never ask, Emma Johnson.”
I met his steady gaze, leaning forward to press a kiss to his lips. Breathing him in, magic and all.
