The detectives kept chasing down what few leads they had, as well as continuing their search for similar crimes across the country. Like with the Yvonne Redmond murder, they seemed to hit a brick wall at every turn. They didn't come up with anything new that day, and Caruso barely stuck his head out of his office.

Anthony Fragakos continued to report on the Alicia Skinner murder, subtly making the suggestion that it was the work of a serial killer. The mayor and Chief Dakin appeared at a news conference late in the day, trying to calm the public and letting them know the police force was doing everything in its power. Naturally, Fragakos didn't seem to buy it, his report making it look like the police were keeping information from the public in order to cover up their own mistakes.

After another long day, Pepper watched the reports by streaming the news broadcasts on his computer at home. When he'd been watching, it felt like Fragakos was speaking directly about him. "Asshole," Pepper muttered to himself as he moved his mouse, closing the link to the news clip. Heaving a big sigh, he logged into the chess club site and played a number of blitz games for the next hour, unwinding and giving his mind a rest from the continuously exhausting stress of dealing with The Sandman case. He kept his phone close by in case Wallace got a reply to his last message and tried to reach him-but no call came. Bone tired, Pepper flopped into bed, asleep the moment his head hit the pillow.
