Damascus Code

Silas ran to the section.
“You’ll see a small monitor beside a group of keys. It has the aDNA analyses running.”
“Got it.”
“When it says 100%, shout the results.”
“Will do,” Silas confirmed.
“What about me,” questioned Avalon.
“Ava, take this ear piece,” Morgan said and gave her a small black earpiece. “Go out the side door, up the stairs, and to the left. The red door takes you to the peak where Hannibal is. Do what he says.”
Among the chaos, Silas didn’t hear what Morgan just told his friend. When Avalon ran past him, he saw her go out the side door--the same one that Hannibal used.
“Where's she going?”
“To help Hannibal.”
“Are you crazy? You’ll get her killed!”
“Son, she’s trained for this!”
“But—.”
“Unless you want to be thrown off the roof, keep your eyes on that dang screen!”
Silas obeyed.
“Geez, youngens,” Morgan grumbled.
The screen now showed a procession line of armed assassins surrounding the cabin, just a few feet from the porch. Morgan knew these terrorists well--those weren't your typical automatic weapons.
The aDNA screen showed 85%. Silas looked over at Morgan. She was sweating. Morgan prayed that Avalon was okay.
Meanwhile On The Peak
Hannibal and Avalon zipped back and forth between three 3-foot tall defense weapons stations. They flipped on switches to set them up for engagement. Each station was anchored in a corner of The Peak’s triangular space
The Peak was a small rooftop platform overlooking the mountains and creek surrounding the base and cabin. Each station had a palm-sized glass device in the shape of a cone perched on top of it. In front of the cone was a small monitor lying flat in the platform with a touch screen. Hannibal ran to his long black bag in the corner of their small battle station. He pulled out of the bag two cylinder devices with a handle.
“Are those grenades?”
“No. Too destructive to the environment. You’ll see.”
Morgan’s voice came in their earpieces.
“10 seconds to go!”
“Okay, here we go Ava,” warned Hannibal.
“8–7–6–5,”
Hannibal gave Avalon a cylinder device.
“Just throw it at them.”
“2–1. Now!”
They hurled the devices off the roof at the band of black-hooded assassins below them. As the devices fell toward them, they exploded.
BANG!
The explosion triggered a glare of blinding light. The assassins collapsed, as they could not see.
Avalon laughed as Hannibal wiped his brow in relief. Little did she know what would happen next. A strange sound began filling the air. It was first a low hum, then a horn—BLAST!
Gabriel’s Trumpet!
Out of nowhere, a ray of light appeared several feet in front of Avalon and Hannibal. It was suspended in the air and began forming a swirling orb. It then grew bigger, stretched, and expanded in opposite directions. It expanded left, right, up, and down. It surrounded them and the whole cabin.
“It’s a shield,” said a stunned Avalon.
Hannibal grinned proudly, “Yep.”
Back To The Command Center
Morgan was still pushing buttons and typing numbers. “Silas, how are you coming along?”
“99 per cent.”
“Great! We’re not quite out of the woods yet.”
Silas kept his eyes on his screen.
“Hey,” called Morgan.
Silas looked to her.
“She’s safe.”
Silas smiled.
A chime sounded. Silas looked down. It’s 100%! Morgan rushed to his side. Both read the results, which appeared lightning fast on the keyboard mini-screen.
The results dated the specimen during Apostle Paul’s lifetime. Morgan and Silas exploded in cheers. The results continued typing.
A new code popped up and was highlighted in red. Morgan’s smile faded, her mouth dropped open.
Silas wasn’t sure what to make of it. He understood some of the genes included in the code—what they were—but the rest were foreign to him.
Morgan must have read his mind.
“The DNA is a hybrid of human genes and an another being.”
Silas couldn’t believe his eyes or ears. “What now?”
“That code unlocks it all. I have to crack it.”
“Okay, we’ll do it now,”
“No. You and Ava are leaving for the UK today. We need more from Ezra.”
“What about our visitors outside?”
“No worries. We have a clean up crew comin'.”
Avalon’s View From The Peak
Members from that selected team of locals--former intel and agents and defense--picked up the incapacitated assassins just minutes later. They arrived in black trucks and loaded up the intruders in shackles. They were transported to a Guantanamo-like prison in a remote area of Guatemala.
At The Command Center
Morgan was on the phone with her best friend Taira arranging travel. Avalon came in. Silas ran to her. She hugged him. Morgan noticed the lovely reunion.
“Okay Tai, let me get off the horn before Ava and Si turn this place into a Motel 6.”
Ava kissed him.
“Yeah, it’s happening. Our little Ava has a beau,” Morgan giggled.
Flight
As promised, Avalon and Silas were on the first flight out of Colorado the next morning. Flying first class was a welcomed surprise for them.
As Silas stared warmly at the sleeping Avalon, he became even more taken by just how beautiful she was. It wasn't just the outside appearance, but her strength and genuine heart gave her a golden glow. Her dark hair was tucked behind her ear. She breathed peacefully.
This journey had them in the throws of danger, and it will continue into the next phase of this expedition.

“A recent study in the New England Journal of Medicine showed that biologics—drugs produced from living cells—targeting low-grade inflammation bring benefits in the reduction of the incidence of lung cancer. That opened up an interesting opportunity: It’s a proof of principle that the trajectory of lung cancer can be changed, so we have the potential to intercept and prevent the disease through our work with the Johnson & Johnson Lung Cancer Initiative by harnessing the promise of the microbiome.”

“What is seemingly the most accessible form of the photographic medium – the family photograph – has been transformed into a vital theme in the oeuvre of Swiss photographer (1947). Through the depth of her treatment, her ability to see new qualities in what has been viewed a thousand times, she was able to depict the reality of her personal family life in such a way as to transmit a truly valuable, all-embracing message on interpersonal relations.”
