The Orphan (Sword and Lead Book 4)

Harry couldn't bear the thought that Amanda Johnson would spend the rest of life behind bars because of one careless act. Harry understood that Jennifer and her family deserved justice, the University deserved justice for losing its valedictorian, and that society deserved justice because Amanda broke society’s most sacred law. But Harry wondered if robbing Amanda’s life of every form of meaning was indeed justice. As far as Harry was concerned, both Jennifer and Amanda were victims. Jennifer was a victim of Amanda’s fragile mental state. And Amanda was a victim of fate. And it was Harry’s belief that destroying Amanda’s life as reparation for her offense wasn’t fair to Amanda, Jennifer, or society.
Harry knew his reasoning wouldn’t be eagerly welcomed, especially by Jennifer’s family and the prosecutors. But he just couldn't live with the thought that this was the end of the road for Amanda. Harry refused to accept that this was the final act in Amanda’s story of pain. Harry decided that he would do all he could to help Amanda, even if it required breaking all the protocols in the police rule book. Detective Harry Rogers reached for his phone and dialed Felicia Brown's number.
