This technique can be a bit tiring, so try not to do it for too long at first. Be sure to have patience and fun, and your experience should be enjoyable and educational. If at any time you feel the urge to close your eyes, go ahead, continuing to receive information directly.
1. Use your pendulum to make sure your subconscious is willing to work psychically right now.
2. Use your anchor to go into the Alpha state.
3. If possible, do a few Kundalini arousing breaths.
4. Tell your subconscious and superconscious that you want to obtain clairvoyant images in the crystal, and that you would like them to be accurate, rather than just trying to please you.
5. Specify what you would like to know about, if you have something specific in mind.
6. Open your eyes, remaining in the relaxed and tranquil Alpha state.
7. Look into the crystal or whatever object you are using as your focal point.
8. Shift your gaze to your third eye and relax your attention there, allowing whatever comes into your mind to appear in the crystal.
9. You may again ask for the specific information if you are not receiving anything, or clarification of anything you receive. But you should not refuse or ignore any images that you see no matter how vague or momentary. If you do not understand something, or feel that you have missed something, simply ask for more.
10. At a certain point, one of two things will happen. Either is perfectly okay. First, you may find your eyes closing, in which case you will simply receive information through normal clairvoyance. Or you may find yourself becoming so totally absorbed in the object of your attention that it seems to grow and envelope you into a stream of psychic images.
11. Do not analyze, simply observe what comes, keeping it in your mind, not forgetting anything.
12. Return to normal consciousness slowly and deliberately, intentionally remembering all that you have experienced.
13. Immediately write down whatever you have observed. It is important to write it all immediately, because you will tend to forget it quickly, much like dreaming.
Exercise 33 - Developing your Clairaudience
Time Required: 10 to 15 minutes
Clairaudience is “hearing” paranormal information through your inner senses. The key to this is really just to turn your attention away from your physical ears, instead becoming aware of your inner voice, allowing your subconscious mind to communicate to you through this voice. Inner self-talk and psychic hearing will be in the same area, although sometimes the psychic hearing will seem further in back of the inner voice. So think to yourself aloud in your head for a moment. Say, “This is where my psychic hearing happens.” Wherever you are experiencing this inner talk is the location where your psychic hearing will come from, or just in front. This may be just above your ears, just inside of them, or at center of your brain. The only challenge in this is separating this communication from your own conscious stream of self-talk. These things tend to blend in with one another. You actually hear this voice quite frequently, but may not have clearly distinguished it.
The voice you will hear in clairaudience is generally that of your own subconscious mind. Your superconscious will generally speak through your subconscious. But the voices you hear will sometimes definitely be from an outside intelligence. You will only want this to happen when you are specifically choosing to intentionally communicate with outside intelligences such as angels or spirits. You do not want to allow other intelligences to speak to you without your asking. This can be somewhat dangerous if allowed to go on without your permission and request. If a voice that you are hearing seems extremely alien, be cautious. We will cover this topic further in the chapter on communication.
The clairaudient ability can be somewhat difficult to develop because it is so similar to self-talk, and because in this culture sound is given lower priority than image and feeling. Many of us are very familiar with inner pictures or feelings, but inner sounds are less familiar. I myself am least proficient with this psychic modality, but when it comes, it seems very powerful, and usually contains very unusual and surprising information.
I was once sitting in silent meditation, when a very clear and unusual voice said to me distinctly, “You are Athanasius.” It almost sounded like the voice was coming from the air behind me. At the time, I was seeking a new magical motto, or magical name, so I decided to adopt it. Why not? However, two days later I received a knock on the door, and I found a police detective, and another uniformed police officer, were standing on my porch. The detective said he wanted to ask me a few questions, so I cordially invited them inside. After peering warily around my apartment, they proceeded to accuse me of defacing a local church with a number of spray-painted pentagrams. It was somewhat well known in the community that I was practicing the occult, and I think they were just trying to find a scapegoat. Of course this was ridiculous, and I quickly persuaded them that I had nothing to do with this vandalism. However, I was nearly dumbstruck when they told me the name of the church, “St. Athanasius.”
The following procedures, quite similar to those for clairvoyance, should be very helpful in starting to develop this ability.
1. If it is possible, use your pendulum to make sure your subconscious is willing to work psychically right now. There will of course be times when this is not convenient or necessary.
2. Use your anchor to go into the Alpha state.
3. If possible, do a few Kundalini arousing breaths.
4. Tell your subconscious and superconscious that you want to obtain psychic information clairaudiently, and that you would like them to be accurate, rather than just trying to please you.
5. Specify what you would like to know about, if you have something specific in mind.
6. Shift your attention to your ears or the best area you’ve determined and listen to your stream of thoughts. Listen for whatever comes into your mind to appear. It may be quiet or fragmentary, or difficult to distinguish from your thoughts, but you will receive some kind of information instantly from your subconscious.
7. Try not to analyze what you are hearing, wondering whether or not it is imaginary. Just accept what comes, keeping it in your mind, not forgetting anything.
8. Return to normal consciousness slowly and deliberately, intentionally remembering all that you have experienced.
9. Immediately write down whatever you have received. It is important to write it all immediately, because you will tend to forget it quickly, much like dreaming.
Just like clairvoyance, you will want to use this technique frequently, to really get the hang of it, so go ahead and try using it with any or all of these experiments:
Choose a few friends, and ask how they are currently, or what they are doing now, or where they are heading in life. Follow up with your friends if you wish, but do so with subtlety. Don’t tell them that you are psychically spying on them.
Ask your inner voice for how to deal with near future circumstances.
Your inner mind, your subconscious, and/or your superconscious, may have a name that it would like to be called when you are communicating. Ask for the name of your superconscious and your subconscious minds. You may also ask the name of your Guardian Angel if you prefer this model of thinking.
If you are interested in such a thing, ask your inner voice for a magical name or magical motto.
Ask your inner voice if any of your friends need a call.
If you have a friend in need, ask for a message about how best to help.
Ask for a message about how to approach your day.
Ask how to solve a problem or how to approach a new project or idea.
Ask for a new idea.
Exercise 34 - Developing Clairsentience, Empathy or Psychic Feeling
Time Required: 10 to 15 minutes
Clairsentience or psychic feeling is most easily understood as those times when you receive paranormal information through your kinesthetic senses, either y
our feelings or your physical sense of touch. You have already had a little practice at this with feeling for an aura with your hands. When you receive psychic feelings they will mostly be in the belly, although sometimes they will manifest in the face or forehead as well.
This is one of the easiest psychic senses to develop for most people, since we all have feelings, and the subconscious is very at home providing you with information through sensations. However, some people are not as in touch with their feelings, and there is nothing wrong with this, so don’t feel badly if you find this challenging.
This sense can and will become very powerful, and you will start to receive all sorts of feelings about people and situations that will be very useful once you understand them. This psychic ability is easy to use in any situation, whether out in the world or in your personal temple or workroom, but it is sometimes difficult to shut off your psychic empathy once you develop it fully. In a moment I will give you a simple grounding and closing exercise that may help you to at least quiet this sense down.
Learning to trust these subtle bodily sensations will be very helpful in your life. There have been many times in my life when I have ignored initial bad impressions of someone and the person turned out to have a really negative influence in my life over the long run. Once you start receiving these messages, really try to understand and heed them.
When you are familiar with this exercise, you will most likely not have to enter the Alpha state to receive clairsentient feelings. Most likely they will just come quickly and easily of their own accord. Still, these methods will help you avoid falling into pitfalls.

6. Shift your to your belly and relax your attention there, allowing whatever feelings come.
7. Do not analyze, simply notice what comes, keeping it in your mind, not forgetting anything.
8. Return to normal consciousness slowly and deliberately, intentionally remembering all that you have experienced.
9. Immediately write down whatever you have felt. It is important to write it all immediately, because you will tend to forget it quickly, much like dreaming.
As with the other psychic senses, you will want to use this technique frequently, to really get the hang of it, so go ahead and try using it with any or all of these experiments:
When you are going out to do something, try to sense what is going to happen before you go.
Sense for hidden dangers when you are out in public.
When meeting people for the first time get a psychic “vibe” from them.
Get a feeling for people that you know- What feeling comes? Follow up with your friends if you wish, but do so with subtlety. Once again, please don’t tell them that you are psychically spying on them.
Try to feel what one of your friends is feeling right now.
First thing in the morning, try to get an overall feeling for your day.
Sense for the overall emotional atmospheres in rooms and houses you are visiting. You will get a sense of what sorts of feelings predominate in these places.
Exercise 35 - Grounding and Closing
Time Required: 5 to 10 minutes
If you are ever feeling overwhelmed by one of your psychic senses, most likely clairsentience, or you just simply want to take a break from them, you may use the following exercise to calm things down.
1. Sit down and close your eyes.
2. Use your anchor to go into the Alpha state.
3. Visualize a channel of energy or a sort of root extending down from your Muladhara chakra or perineum down into the earth. (You can also draw in healing light from above at this time too).
4. Send all of the extra unwanted energies and feelings into the earth through this shaft, as if you were draining the air out of a balloon.
5. Once you feel you have drained out the excess, use the same imaginary hands that you used earlier in opening your chakras to close them one at a time in the same way that you opened them. Imagine that you are sealing up a hole, or closing the lotus flowers.
6. Return to normal consciousness and relax.
Exercise 36 - Psychometry
Time Required: 10 to 15 minutes
Psychometry is the practice of reading information by touching physical objects. As mentioned in the section on aura feeling, there are powerful channels in your fingertips and palms that you can use to receive psychic information. The following is a simple technique for discovering information about an object or its owner by holding it in your hands.
1. Place the object in front of you or in your lap.
2. Go into Alpha using your anchor.
3. Arouse Kundalini if you wish, or at least open your chakras. Rub your hands together briefly to awaken the energy centers in your hands.
4. Pick up the object and hold it in your hands. Feel its texture. Turn it over in your fingers.
5. Start with your gut, what general feelings does this object give you? Is it happy, sad, angry, frightened, scary, cold, warm, or any other feeling? Once you have gotten a general feeling for the object you can move into images or sounds, using whichever psychic modalities you prefer.
6. Do not analyze, simply notice what comes, keeping it in your mind, not forgetting anything.
7. Return to normal consciousness slowly and deliberately, intentionally remembering all that you have experienced.
8. Immediately write down whatever you have observed. It is important to write it all immediately, because you will tend to forget it quickly, much like dreaming.
Exercise 37 - Psychic Tests
Time required: varying
Once you are familiar with the preceding exercises you may want to try using your different psychic modalities for the following simple tests. You may see the exact image you are trying to get when using clairvoyance, or just something symbolic. You can use clairaudience to try to verbally get answers from your unconscious, or perhaps hear different unique sounds associated with the objects. The different test choices may have different feelings, or you may just feel the correct response. Experiment with all of these possibilities:
Do some coin tosses, using your psychic awareness to determine which side will come up. Try perhaps fifty tosses. Try to discover which psychic sense is best at this. Also try to note whether you have a higher percentage of correct guesses at the beginning middle or end of your series.
Try the same with throwing dice.
Put some differently shaped and textured small objects into identical boxes. Try to determine what is in each box with your different modalities.
Take a deck of cards, playing, Tarot or psychic test cards, and try to guess which cards are next. If you are using Tarot cards or playing cards, start by just guessing the suit, rather than the exact card. With practice you can try working up to guessing the exact card.
You can also do these same experiments directly using the pendulum with your subconscious mind. If you do this, choose, toss, roll, or pick beforehand, because your subconscious may get confused if it hasn’t already occurred. Your superconscious may know the future, but your subconscious may not.
The point of these tests is not to be one hundred percent accurate. This won’t happen. However, you will be able to make correct guesses that are statistically higher than random chance. Even if you are only 60-70% accurate with the coin toss prediction that is still significantly higher than straight guessing! Some people, especially when new to psychic exploration, will actually get only 30
% correct, which is still statistically significant, because it proves that you are receiving non-chance related information. You are just interpreting it backwards.
NOTICING NONVERBAL COMMUNICATION
Being psychic also involves looking with your eyes and other physical sense organs, not just receiving information from inside your own head. Having extra sensory perception also implies seeing, hearing and feeling normal perceptions in a more highly sophisticated way. The importance of paying attention to all sensory input, psychic as well as ordinary cannot be stressed too much. The following techniques can only be used when you actually have a person present, sitting or standing in front of you, and you are having an active dialogue with them. You will want to use these techniques once you have advanced to the point that you are ready to give someone a “reading,” or if you are covertly trying to ascertain information about someone you are with.
