  “Clearly.”

He smiled and stopped. He took her hand and turned her toward him. She looked at his chest and he lifted her face to his.

“You are still as beautiful as ever.”

“What am I supposed to do?”

  “With what?”

“This…Us. I never thought that I would see you again, and now I’m hearing that I won’t again. I’m so confused.”

“Lenora, we have these two days. I can only promise you that. Let’s not worry about after. Let me focus on you and my see… daughter.”

“That’s fair. I just hope that she will be okay. She’s all that I’ve got.”

“She will be. She has a strong alliance behind her.”

Lenora looked at him again and smiled.

“I’ve got to go home tonight. Will you stay with me?”

  He smiled seductively. “I shall.”

She smiled and laced their fingers as they continued their walk.

  LOGAN

“Father? Do you think what he speaks is truth? Am I fated to be with an angel?”

“I don’t think that he has the ability to lie. If that is the case, you will be more powerful than even me.”

“Father, I heard her calling me. My heart was in so much pain when I felt her plea. It explains so much.”

“Yes, I can see that now. You just have to give her time.”

Logan smirked. “Time is all that I’ve got.”

Sabastian sat up on the couch and looked at his father.

“How long are we going to stay here, Father?”

Marcus paced to the window and looked out. He saw Assan and Lenora walking in the field behind the house and smiled.

“I think that they should be okay tonight. We can go home and check back in tomorrow. I’m pretty sure that there is a lot that Denise is going to have to take in before Assan leaves.”

“Yeah. I feel for her.” Sabastian said quietly. He looked over at Logan. “What are you going to do? Are you coming with us?”

Logan nodded. “Yes, I think that is best. I do not want to remind her of what she feels that she has lost.”

“She hasn’t lost anything, big brother. She would have gained a whole family.”

Logan’s mouth lifted in a sad smile. He nodded and joined his father at the window.

“What do you think will happen with them?” He nods to Assan and Lenora.

“I don’t think anything is possible. He is an angel and cannot stay.”

  “That has to hurt.”

“Yeah, but she will survive. At least, she has this long anyway.”

“Yes, she has. Let’s get ready to go, they need their space.”

  “Of course, Father.”

Logan looks out of the window a final time and smiles. One day that could be Denise and I.

  23

Denise and Mary ended up falling asleep. They had practically been up all night. Grandmother woke them up around ten that morning. Denise asked for her mother and was told that she and Assan had gone to her house. Denise was surprised that her Mom would just leave without talking to her. Rebecca assured her that she didn’t want to wake her. Not putting much thought into it, she went to the great room with Grandmother who had candles lit and bowls of water and herbs all around. Denise looked at Mary and Mary smiled her support. Denise sat down on the pallet of blankets that sat in front of Grandmother and took her outstretched hand.

“Concentrate child. Let the worries and sounds disappear.”

They both evened out their breath and were on one accord. Denise didn’t think that it would be possible to focus but she did. The room that they were in was gone and they were in what looked like a steel box.

  “Nana? What is this place?”

“This is where I want you to lock yourself away when you want to shield yourself from danger.”

“I don’t even know how we got here.”

“You envision it in your mind. Here you can practice your new powers and not be seen in the world.”

“Powers? All I know is that I can hear voices and see certain things.”

“Your father is a powerful angel, and those powers have been passed down to you. Feel it within yourself and see what happens.”

Denise focused on herself and felt a warmness engulf her. She could see the light in her mind as she felt it come from her. She opened her eyes in surprise and Grandmother was lying on the floor. Grandmother uncovered her eyes and peeked out with a smile. Denise ran over to help her up and Grandmother allowed her to. Denise looked around and the room was blackened.

  “What just happened?”

Grandmother smiled. “You are strong indeed. You just let your angel powers fly and burned everything.” Grandmother winked. “I guess we need to work on that control.”

Denise looked down at her hands in wonder.

“It was not your hands child. It was you. You have the ability to heal and destroy. That’s what we need to work on. You have to learn to focus your energy to one thing, otherwise, you will burn it all down.” Grandmother chuckled.

“Oh boy. This is going to be rough.”

“As long as you practice here in this box, you should be fine. Let’s try again.”

Denise was drained by the time that they finished. She had only engulfed the room one other time before Grandmother brought in smaller targets. She had burned Grandmother by accident once, and she practiced until the burn was healed. Denise had never felt so proud of herself. When the meditation was over and they opened their eyes, it was night. Mary and Rebecca were asleep against the wall. Denise smiled at Grandmother and gave her a hug.

  “Thank you, Nana.”

“We shall do this again tomorrow. Hopefully with your father.”

Denise had butterflies at the mention of her dad. She wanted to know him so badly, but she was nervous.

  24

That next morning, Denise was excited to see her mom and Assan sitting at the kitchen table. Her mom had a huge smile on her face, so she was guessing that their night went well.

“Hey Dee,” Lenora smiled and handed her a cup of coffee.

“Thanks Mom.” She looked at her apprehensively.

Assan sat up in his chair a little straighter. “I heard that your day was productive yesterday.”

“It was. It was certainly draining, and it took me by surprise.”

“I would like to see what you have learned.”

Denise nodded and took a sip of her coffee. She handed the mug to Mary who had just walked into the kitchen.

“What’s going on? Where are you going?” Mary asked as she took the mug from Denise’s hands.

Denise smiled at her and looked at Assan. “Training.”

Mary nodded and took a sip of the coffee that was handed to her. Her face turned up in disgust.

“Ew. How do you drink it like this?”

  Denise laughed. “It’s good.”

“Let you tell it.” Mary’s lip curled up again and she sat the mug on the counter.

Assan stood up and followed Denise and Grandmother to the great room. Denise sat on the floor and waited for Assan to join them, but he stood firm at the door. He splayed a hand and motioned for them to continue. Denise was confused at first but when they got to the steel box, Assan was there.

  “How did you do that?”

“I am an angel. As are you. I can be anywhere.”

“So, your body is back at the house also?”

“No. That is only for humans. I can go anywhere when allowed back to earth. You will have to project.” He took a step forward and put his hand out. “Enough about me.”

His hand shown a bright light and then heat licked her skin. She shielded her eyes as the heat got worse. She put her hands up, and the heat was being blocked. She looked at her hands in amazement and the heat burned her face.

“Focus. We do not have time for you to be in wonder about your new powers.”

  Denise looked worriedly at h
is face that was now angry. She was taken aback at how his face morphed from sweet to angry that quickly.

“Your life will be in danger from now on. You must protect yourself with everything that you are.”

“But I don’t even know what I’m doing!”

“Of course not. But your angel side knows. Trust it.”

The heat turned to some type of magic. She could feel something trying to penetrate her thoughts and turned to Grandmother. She was muttering words that Denise did not understand, and her heart started to race. Denise closed her eyes, and a block of some sort shielded her thoughts. The heat was back, and she dropped to her knees and screamed.

  “Focus!”

“I’m trying!” She screamed again and when she did, a loud BOOM sounded in the room and the walls were black. Grandmother lay on the floor, and it looked as if she wasn’t breathing. Denise ran over and cradled her head in her lap.

“NANA! I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry. What have I done?”

A tear fell on her cheek and Grandmother took a deep breath.

  “Nana?”

She blinked her eyes open and smiled.

“You did really well,” she whispered.

“How?” Denise looked at Assan. “How did I do that?”

He walked over and knelt down beside them. He placed a hand on Grandmothers’ cheek, and she moaned and closed her eyes. When she opened them, her eyes were more vibrant and alert than Denise had ever seen. She stood up and felt her arms and rolled her neck.

“I haven’t felt this good in ages.” Grandmother smiled and looked at Assan.

Assan looked at his daughter. “You also have the ability to heal and restore life. Your tears brought her back.”

Denise’s mouth stayed open in an “O” as she tried to process what just happened.

“You must know that you are in constant danger, and I only have today to help you.”

“I understand. This is so heavy though.”

“I know, but it is imperative that you practice in this space and watch your surroundings.”

  “I will.”

“As a human also, you have to watch your emotions. Human emotions can get in your way and destroy everything.”

Assan stood and placed his hand in front of Denise.

“Come. I only have today and would like to see what you love to do in your human world.”

Denise smiled at took his hand. This is going to be fun.

  25

Denise took him to the museum and her favorite place in the park. She tried to get him to eat, but he told her that it was impossible to eat human food. They spent hours talking at the park, and by the time that they left, she felt like she had known him forever. When he wasn’t talking weird, he was actually pretty funny. When they got back to the house, Mary met them outside. Marcus and his sons were there also. Denise smiled a shy smile at Logan as she was passing by him.

“Why do the clouds look like that?” Mary asked.

They all turned around and looked at the sky.

“They look normal to me.” Sebastian said.

“I don’t see anything wrong.” Marcus chimed in.

Logan just stared like he was trying to see.

Assan looked up and his face changed.

“Something is wrong. I’m not sure what it is, but something is happening in Heaven.”

Marcus and his sons looked up again and looked at each other in confusion.

“This may have something to do with why you were to be trained so quickly. Something is coming and it is not going to be good.” Assan told them.

Denise looked at Mary with worried expression and Mary took her hand.

  26

Analise was on pins and needles. Z had come home and told her that he had found some people to help them. They sent a scout out to find out more information about the girl Denise. They were even more surprised when Jeffery came crashing into the room with a smile on his face.

  “I’ve got something!”

Analise sat up on the couch and held her hand out. Jefferey placed the papers in her hand and was practically dancing foot to foot as she looked.

“What am I looking at Jeffery?”

  “It’s Marcus Vos!”

  “And who is Marcus Vos?”

Jeffery rolled his eyes and stepped forward.

“Rebecca used to date him. Big beefy warlock?”

  “Okay? What about him?”

“Well.” He clasped his hands together. “I found out that he has been frequenting the coven. That means that he is helping them! That’s a way in.”

Analise stood up and looked at the papers and pictures in her hands.

“This might be good. Good job Jeffrey! Maybe we can whip something up to get him to lead us to her.”

Just as the words came from her mouth, “Z” came in with a smile.

  “What?”

“We saw her. She was with a guy and I think it was an angel. We couldn’t get close enough because the force pushing off of them was too strong. But you know what that means?”

“Yep. angels are only here so long. It’s only a matter of time.” Analise smiled and looked at Jeffry. “Keep on this Marcus.”

“Yes ma’am.” Jeffery smiled and walked out of the room.

Z came over and put his arms around her waist from the back.

“Only a matter of time baby. She will be ours.” Analise smiled.

  27

Jeriah was getting excited. He had banded up three more angels that would help him in his fight. All he had to do was wait on Assan to get called back up. He had been watching and waiting. His future bride was right within his grasp, and he only had to reach out and take her. Sure, there is the thing with these humas and free will, but he doesn’t care about that at all. Who could resist an angel? It’s couldn’t be that hard to get her to say yes.

He had to control his thoughts. He knew that the others could feel the change in him. They didn’t know specifically where the disturbance was coming from, but they knew that it was in Heaven. Just one more day. One day before he was free to break out of Heaven and claim his bride.

  28

The day was coming to an end and Denise could feel the pull from Heaven for her father. She held him and he kissed her head as he began to disappear.

“You are beautiful, you are special, and you are mine. Remember your strength. I love you daughter.”

Denise watched as he was there one minute and gone the next. A lone tear fell from her eyes, and she ran to the window and looked up. The sky turned a light pink and thunder rolled across the sky. She placed a hand on the window and whispered. Goodbye daddy. She closed her eyes and felt a warmth around her and gasped. She felt her father’s presence and smiled. He told her that he would always be there, just not physically. She turned around and saw Mary and Lenora standing at the door. Lenora opened her arms, and Denise went willingly.

“I know, baby. It will be okay.”

“I just met him, and he’s gone.”

“You’re preaching to the choir, hun.”

Denise chuckled and wrapped her arms tighter.

“I’ve got to go and get my stuff from school. I think I need to take a little break right now.”

“Agreed. We can go and get it tomorrow. I’ll call the school and tell them that there is a family emergency.”

  “Thanks Mom.”

She kissed her forehead. “Anything for you.”

Lenora, Mary, and Rebecca went to the school the next day and packed up her things. She left the bigger items and just packed her clothes, shoes, and smaller appliances. Luckily her roommate was not there to ask questions.

Denise was sitting on the floor while folding a shirt and she dropped it on her lap.

“Thank you, guys for coming with me to help me pack. I was so nervous leaving out of the house. I’ve been staring at everyone like they are an enemy.”

They all giggled, and Lenora shook her head.

  “Girl, hurry up and
pack that stuff up.”

“Yes Ma’am.” Denise smiled and looked at Mary with a wink.

It took them about an hour to pack and load everything into Rebecca’s car. They quickly went back to Mary’s house. Lenora thought that it would be a good idea for Denise to stay with Mary for the time being. She promised to come every day after work to check on her. As they brought the last box inside, Lenora’s phone rang.

“Hello?” She paused as the person on the other end talked. “Okay. No problem, I’ll be right there.”

Denise walked over. “Who was that?”

“Administration. I forgot that I had to sign some papers since I’m on the loan with you. I’ll be back in just a minute.”

“Let me take you.” Rebecca offered.

Lenora waved her hand. “Nonsense. I will be right back. Just watch after my baby.”

Rebecca nodded, and they watched her walk out of the door.

  29

Analise couldn’t believe her luck. Jeffrey came running in telling them that the group was at the school, including the girl. They all jumped in the car and rushed over as soon as they could, but when they got there, they were gone.

“Fuck!” Analise shouted and hit the steering wheel.

“Calm down, baby. We’ve got this,” “Z” said, patting her leg.

He got out of the car and jogged across the grass to a building. He was only in there for a few minutes before he came back smiling.

  “What are you smiling about?”

“Well, my dear. Her mom is on the way back up here.”

  “What? How?”

“I spelled the guy in there to call her up to sign some papers. Easy.”

  “But what about the girl?”

“If we have her mom, she will come running.”

Analise smiled a sinister smile and kissed him.
