Last Summer at the Golden Hotel

Holland opted for the truth, tapping out a text.

Gem . . . I miss you. Our 25th reunion is a month away and I’ve been asked to chair the weekend. I cannot fathom doing this without you by my side. And I think you facing everyone would prove that everything that was said about you was a total lie. Your absence would speak louder than your presence. Besides, we can get wasted at the bar together. Lmk. XOXO

The three dots of a reply flashed on her screen immediately.

Hm. Tempting, but no. Miss you too. X

Holland flinched. She hadn’t even gotten Gemma to consider it. What could bend her mind?

  Suki is coming.

The three dots returned, disappeared, and then came again.

Really? Maybe I can make it.

Holland smiled to herself. It was a harmless lie. Besides, maybe she’d succeed in convincing Suki to come. It wasn’t like getting there from Palo Alto was that difficult when she could fly in and out on her private jet.

Her email dinged. Had Prisha already made up her mind? But the message was from CTguy77, the man she’d been corresponding with from the dating app. He was awfully handsome. Maybe if things went well between them, she could bring him as her date to the reunion.

Holland opened the message, feeling a flutter in her belly.

  Dear Holland,

I’d really like to meet up soon. Might you be free for dinner this Saturday night? I can come to Westport and we can eat at one of the places on the water. Let me know if that’s convenient for you.

  Fondly, Mike

Oh, she liked Professor Mike. She was about to respond when she noticed there was an attachment to the email. It was titled “Something Extra.” Odd.

She clicked it open and gasped when she was greeted by a close-up of Professor Mike’s penis, flanked by two hairy balls.
