Chapter 1
“Pulled up in a Phantom. Pulled off with a dancer. Got a pocket full of money. Kind of hard to keep my pants up…”
“Ayeeeee,” Rye wagged her tongue. “Stiff arm. Watch out lil’ bitch,” she rapped as 2 Chainz’s voice boomed through the club.
“Watch out, lil’ bitch!” Lea, Rye’s girl, chanted as they grooved in the middle of the dance floor in Club Pure.
Rye was having the time of her life. Any time she and Lea linked, it was guaranteed to be lit. Out of all her girls, Lea was the liveliest and knew literally everybody around the city of Houston. Her popularity was primarily due to her stripping gig over at V-Live, but Rye wasn’t judging. Lea lived a lifestyle that most girls their ages could only dream about, making more in one weekend than some made all year round.
Swinging her long luxurious Brazilian bundles of virgin weave around, Rye was feeling the hell out of the music. Coming through donning a Gucci t-shirt dress along with thigh-high logo printed Gucci boots, she was dripping sauce all over the place. She was a nice solid size twelve, and came fully-equipped with thick slightly bow legs, smooth peanut butter skin, super sharp hips, small scoops of breasts, and a nice bubble-butt. It went without saying; her body was tight, but to most it wasn’t her best asset. Absolutely nothing topped that gorgeous smile of hers. She had pretty white teeth, succulent lips, and ocean deep dimples. Needless to say, Rye was fine and she knew it. Everyone around knew it too.
Lea loved clubbing with Rye, because unlike her girls, she really knew how to let loose and have fun. Frankly, there were several women intimidated by her aura, but Rye always stood beside her with her shoulders squared. Being that her mother was Brazilian, Lea had a silky texture of hair, chocolate skin, cat green eyes, with an ass out of this world. People swore that she’d had some work done…which she had, but that was nobody’s business. However her look had come to pass was irrelevant. She was bad as ever now, and liked to keep pretty bitches around, who weren’t overly consumed with jealousy.
Rocking barely-there denim booty cut-off shorts that fully exposed her ass, along with a sheer cropped top, Lea brought new meaning to the word provocative. There was no way that any heterosexual man could ease pass, without a second glance. Therefore, men stepped to the duo in droves, and they graciously turned all advances down. Undoubtedly, Lea didn’t mind finding a new friend, but none of the guys she’d seen that night were on the level. However, Rye’s situation was completely different. There were a few guys she saw potential in…but she knew that he was somewhere watching.
Hanging back in their section, Tori studied her. A few of his business associates had suggested coming there, and he’d been cool with it. That was until he realized that his girlfriend was there shaking her ass for the world to see, along with her high-priced hoe/stripping friend. Angrily, he slid his tongue across his teeth, before taking a sip of Hennessy to the head.
“Yeah,” he spoke to himself. “I’ma have to check this shit.” He slammed his glass on the table in front of him, before standing. “This shit has been going on long enough.” Snarling, he ambled her way.
Rye was attempting to bend it over, when he grabbed her arm. “Hey!” she jumped back.
Curling his lips, he spoke into her ear. “The hell are you doing? Do you know who you are? Better yet, who the fuck am I?”
She rolled her eyes. “What the hell does you being a rinkidink sports’ agent have to do with anything?”
He gritted. “I have a fucking reputation to uphold, and my supposed girlfriend is in here popping her pussy like some two-dollar hoe.”
Rye’s eyes lowered into evil slits. Staring at Tori’s handsome chocolate face, she was fighting a strong urge to slap the taste out of his mouth. He stood at an average 5’11, was medium built, cut, and sported the standard clean-cut black boy’s tapered fade. He wore trendy Givenchy threads, but that did nothing for how bland Rye felt he was.
“Ooh, you don’t like how I’m moving right now, but you can globetrot around the world, take pictures with Instagram thots, who all have their asses hanging out. Never mind the fact that the blogs link you to them bitches. You just smile and say that any publicity is good publicity. It’s all fun and games then. But I’m supposed to be posted up with my legs crossed, like I lady. I got ya.” She nodded. “Let me go sit my ass down.” she stepped back, before putting a hand in his face. “I thinks the fuck not.”
Heat radiated from Tori’s body as he stood stiffly. “You really trying me, man.” He looked her up and down. Admittedly, she looked hot. She always did. And if for no other reason, that was why he kept her around. “Look, you really getting beside yourself tonight…but I’ll look past it, if you bend it over for daddy.”
Rye pursed her lips, and placed her hands on her hips. “I bet you’d love that, huh?”
“Of course,” he nodded.
“Well, too damn bad. Cause I’m going home tonight,” she teasingly wagged her tongue.
Lea stood giggling.
He huffed, shaking his head. “Yeah, okay. I’m not about to go back and forth with you. Just remember that I have people with me. So, behave yourself.”
She fluttered her lashes, as he traveled back to the section.
“Bitch, he was trying his hardest to check you,” Lea tittered, as she propped an elbow on Rye’s shoulder.
“I know, right? With his lame ass. I gotta kick him to the curb, ASAP.”
Lea sucked her teeth. “Yeah, right. I’ve heard that how many times before?”
“And each time I’ve been dead ass serious. I’ve just been allowing other people to get in my ear, but fuck that this time. It’s a wrap.”
“Yeah, okay. We’ll see.”
“Yeah, we surely will.”
Two hours later, the duo was exiting the club, as it was now after two a.m. The club was so crowded that Rye had lost sight of Tori, and she was thankful for small favors. Several people were beginning to loiter around, which had Rye a tad nervous. As much as she loved her fellow black people, too many standing outside of the night club was a disaster waiting to happen.
“Friend, come on,” Rye urged, grabbing Lea’s hand, as she slowed her walk.
“Wait, hold up,” Lea halted her. “I see some people.”
Rye glanced around confusingly. “Who?”
Lea bit her bottom lip. “Them fine ass muthafuckin’ Braxton boys.”
“Braxton? Who the hell are they?”
Lea nodded her head in their direction. Rye glanced at a crowd of guys leaning up against some cars that were lining the street. “You’re talking about the guys standing near that Lexus?”
“Yesss.”
“Okay…” Rye dragged out, wondering what the big deal was.
“Come on, come on, let’s go speak,” Lea pushed anxiously, which was odd behavior for her. Rye had seen the girl get quite chummy with several known celebrities, and it was never this level of excitement.
Confidently, Lea strutted over to the group of fellows, while Rye followed closely behind. Fingering through her hair, Lea wanted to make sure that she looked her absolute best.
“Heeeey,” she animatedly spoke, while Rye stood back silently.
Everyone around lifted their heads. “What’s up?” They all spoke simultaneously.
“Oh, nothing,” Lea replied. “Why I didn’t see you big money niggas in the club? Especially, yall, Lil’ Jahrein and Lil’ Jaylen.”
One of the guys she’d addressed stood texting on his phone. He shrugged, and didn’t bother glancing up. “I wasn’t feeling it today.”
Rye briefly scoped him out, quickly concluding that he was too fine for his own damn good. Balenciaga should’ve been paying him to rock their clothing. The dude was effortlessly gorgeous with nice bowlegs, spinning waves, with a beautiful Indian reddish-brown skin complexion. Then the other cat who’d been directly addressed sat on the trunk of the Lexus with an arrogant smile on his face. Unquestionably, he and the other guy were somehow related, because he seemed like a remixed version of the other dude with broader shoulders, and maybe twenty added pounds. Being flashier, he had three glistening chains around his neck, and wore Versace everything, instead.
“Yeah, we stepped out too last minute. They was out of sections, so we said fuck it,” the one sitting on the Lexus spoke up. “They was about to give us some other nigga’s section, but we fuck with homie, and said that we wouldn’t do him like that.”
Rye rolled her eyes and folded her arms, figuring the dude was trying to brag. His ass didn’t have it like that.
“Say, why your lil’ friend standing off to the side, not speaking, like somebody is gonna bite her fine ass?”
Rye loudly sucked her teeth, refusing to give the guy eye contact. She’d noticed him watching her, and he barely looked old enough to drive. He was cute, though. He wore Robin’s jeans and Giuseppe sneakers, and was rather light skin. He was tall, but way too skinny.
“Man…” the dude on the trunk stressed. “Fuck that bitch, lil’ cuz. She come over here just to high-side, thinking that’s gonna get her some attention. It aint that serious. She all mean-mugged up like somebody really worried about her dusty ass over here.”
Rye’s head whipped around. “I beg your pardon?”
“You heard me,” the dude scoffed. “With that fuckin wig glued damn near at ya eyebrows.”
The cat who looked just like him chuckled. “Jaylen, you out of line, man.”
Jaylen lifted his chin. “Aye, I said what I said.”
All the other guys laughed, causing the back of Rye’s neck to grow hot.
“You really got me wrong,” she spoke up. “I didn’t say shit, because there was nothing to say. I don’t entertain busters. What, yall supposed to be hot shit, because yall rolling ten-deep in this cheap ass Lexus? This the starters’ version.”
“Aww, it’s like that?” another guy questioned, who was also a cutie. He was light skin like the boy who’d initially spoken to Rye, but he appeared older, and was cut like a skilled boxer. “Lea, your people clowning my little brother’s new whip? Shit, I say he’s doing alright to be eighteen. The fuck is she driving in?”
Lea gave Rye a quick look, before shaking her head. “She didn’t mean nothing by it, Terio. She’s been drinking all night.”
“Nah, this is the sober me,” Rye stubbornly claimed.
Lil’ Jaylen hopped off the trunk. “Yeah, okay. Go ‘head with your beauty supply Gucci on. It’s your world.” He strutted off. “Let’s go, main. I can’t entertain these birds another minute. I’d rather get my fuckin’ teeth pulled.”
Before Rye could rebut, she watched Jaylen and who she presumed to be Lil’ Jahrein hit the locks on Lambos. Their doors ascended into the night’s sky, before they hopped inside. The other eight cats proceeded to hop in various foreign whips, ranging from Porsche’s to Range Rovers.
“What the fuck?” Rye’s jaw dropped. “This muthafucka read me, before he hopped in a car worth a quarter mil.”
Lea nodded. “Yup.”
“But why?”
“Why what?” Lea arched her brow.
“Why would you let me stand here and talk all that shit? Lord, why didn’t you shut me up?”
Lea shook her head. “I tried to. You were missing all the signals.”
Rye rolled her eyes. “I guess that I should be embarrassed, but fuck them niggas. I doubt I’ll see their asses again. So, I’ma carry my ass home, and pretend this shit never happened.”
***
“Is that all you do? Tap away on that damn phone?”
Rye lifted her head to lock eyes with her mama. Konya was a pretty woman. Copper brown, weave flowing down to the middle of her back, with a thick size sixteen frame. She was always well put together…and forever riding Rye’s damn back.
“And hey, mama, what’s for dinner?” Rye questioned chipperly.
“Now, you know you have a problem. Sitting here in the middle of the kitchen, but don’t know the smell of meatloaf right underneath your nose. You must be low on food back at your apartment,” Konya assumed.
“Yup, you know it.” Rye swung her legs, as she sat on a stool.
Konya lifted a brow, as she realized that her daughter had gone right back to texting. “What do you and Tori have to discuss that has your attention like this?”
Rye scowled. “I never said that this was him.”
Konya frowned. “Well, then, who is it?”
“A friend.”
Konya placed a hand on her hip. “Now, who is this friend? And why are you texting this friend instead of your boyfriend?”
Rye sat her cell on the counter, and focused on her mama. “Ma, I’m twenty years old, and I think that sometimes you forget that. And I think that I’m fully capable of deciding how I want to carry my relationships.”
“So, what you telling me is that you think fooling around with different dudes is cute?”
“No, I didn’t say that. But I would hope that if I did, it wouldn’t change the fact that I’m your daughter. Like what I do with these men should have nothing to do with our relationship.”
Konya folded her arms across her breasts. “Is this your way of telling me that you’re dick-hopping?”
Rye burst with laughter. “Really, lady? Dick-hopping? Are you serious, right now?”
“Yes,” Konya tittered, not being able to keep a straight face. “But seriously. Why are you messing over Tori? He’s a good guy, Rye.”
“Ma, Tori is only good on paper. Outside of that, he’s like any other dude. The successful ones, anyway. He has women coming at him left and right. There’s temptation everywhere, and he’s biting. He’s been doing it. And I’ve been doing me. So, yes, I see other people. Just like him. But I’m getting tired of it all. So, I’m breaking up with him the next time I see him.”
“No, the hell you aint,” Rye’s father, Dewayne barged into the conversation, as he stomped into the kitchen.
Rye watched him move about like a raging bull. His tall stocky frame looked ready to do damage, as his yellow complexion turned crimson red. “Daddy, please don’t start,” she groaned.
“No, don’t give me that shit, Rye. I’ve told you once. I’ve told you a thousand times. Me and Tori’s father have business dealings. That man gave me several landscaping jobs over those Mexicans who charge half the price. And we all know that it’s because of our personal relationship. Now, do you think that will still be that way, if you kick his son to the curb?”
Rye sucked her teeth. “Daddy, I told you from the beginning that I didn’t have anything to do with your agreement with that man. That’s why I kept saying not to mix business with pleasure. I can’t have the weight of your business on my shoulders. Especially not in the form of staying in a dead-end relationship.”
Dewayne narrowed his eyes. “You can’t have the weight of the business on your back? Are you serious? What kind of job do you have? Huh? Who the hell do you think is footin
g the bills over there at that high-rise apartment?”
Konya swallowed hard. “He’s right, Rye. Those jobs he gets through Tori’s father has become over half of the business’s income. That same income is used to support you, while you figure out what it is you want to do with yourself.”
Rye rolled her eyes. “DeAndra gets the same treatment,” she referred to her eighteen-year-old sister. “Shoot, she probably gets more than me, because yall pay for college and pay all her bills. But I gotta worry about keeping the family’s business alive? It’s my responsibility, after taking a semester off from school? Yall would never make Dee feel like she had to do extra to gain your unwavering support.”
“Aww come on.” Dewayne’s head rolled around on his neck. “Rye, don’t start that bullshit again. Cause I’m ‘bout tired of your shit, okay? For six months your ass has been running around here doing nothing. So, the least you can do is keep Tori happy. I mean, what the hell else are you doing?”
“And the whole time you haven’t given me a penny!” Rye shouted. “Tori has been paying my rent, and ma has to practically steal to give me anything extra!”
Dewayne pointed a shaky finger. “Lower your got damn voice in my house! Don’t nobody owe you shit! And no matter how if you get the money from me or your mama, its still coming from this household. Especially the damn credit card that you love to swipe. So, if your spoiled ass wants to continue to receive help from this way, you’ll do exactly as I say. Now, that’s the end of this discussion.”
Rye bit down so hard on her bottom lip that she drew blood. It took everything in her to keep quiet, but she knew that she’d have to, otherwise, her and her father’s relationship would never be the same.
Chapter 2
“Ahh shiiiiiiit, I been thinking about this pussy all day.”
Rye was on all fours, rolling her eyes to the ceiling every few seconds. She’d never seen a black guy with so little rhythm. Tori was hitting it from the back, and she was cringing the entire time. His saggy balls slapped her booty, as he rocked in and out of her in his baggy Trojan condom.
