Wyvern's Destiny

The same night, any other shifter or a mage who fought by Ruscal's side was rounded up and sent to prison. Vaclav and Duncan's army had to bring back control. The whole city was in havoc, and it took several weeks for things to get back to normal. Many parts of the city needed to be rebuilt. Most human areas were completely destroyed by explosions.

We later learned it was Alex and Tom’s friend, Tyron, a mage shifter, who sold us out to Ruscal and his men. He knew Ruscal from his past and was sent to our camp as a spy after he was promised more power within the city. He had been friends with Tom since they first arrived in Rivenna. Alex was furious and wanted to kill him with her bare hands, for the lives that were lost and for his role in destroying the city. In the end, Jorgen had Tyron imprisoned for life without the possibility of ever getting out.

It took Alex and Tom a long time to get over the fact that it was their friend who led Ruscal to me and Jorgen. I reassured them over and over that it wasn’t their fault, and it felt good knowing that the traitor would die behind bars. After some time, Alex finally let it go and stayed with me in the castle from time to time to help plan the wedding.

"It's going to be my special day, mine … and I need time alone with, Dazzy," the Pixie disagrees and Jetli shakes her head, rolling her eyes.

Since they’ve been reunited with their family, they’ve been spending a lot of time in the Asian World. I'm still not used to them leaving when for years they had been convinced that they were all alone.

I never suspected when I found them in the forest, scared and without any memories, that they might be the lost King and the Queen of the Pixies. Apparently, their relatives have been at war with fairies for years. One of their enemies hired a fairy huntsman to kidnap them during a very difficult winter.

He was supposed to kill them, but instead he infused them with magic causing them to lose their memories. Then he abandoned them in Black Forest. I still can’t believe that they ended up with me. It was by pure luck that our paths crossed that day when I wandered off to hunt.

Unfortunately, even the dragon venom didn't bring back their old memories. Jetli drunk the whole flask. She was born mute, and even her new family confirmed that she was never able to speak.

Their parents were killed during the war with faeries too. Dazzy, the pixie who saved me, insisted that the whole clan follow Ming's army all the way to the Eastern World. Apparently, someone heard that they were living with me in Rivenna. They were finally reunited with their true family.

After a long and painful recovery, Jorgen announced publicly that Ruscal had been lying to the people since he took over the castle. He explained that his brother murdered Hans out of revenge and forced Jorgen to watch him die. During that same evening, he asked me to marry him.

I was shocked, because after all we hadn't had a chance to spend that much time together. I didn't even have to think about it, and accepted his hand., We were going to be together until the very end, and that's all that matters.

"Astri, are you ready? Everyone is waiting," a voice from the corridor asks, taking me away from my thoughts.

"Yes, I am. Come on, let's do this," I say and pick up my long dress, taking a deep breath. Shortly after that we leave my chamber and head through the wide corridor. Happiness is bubbling inside me. This is actually happening for real. I'm finally getting married.

"Astri, you know I was so lucky when you showed up in my shop all those years go. And I think I might be the one getting married next," Emilia whispers in my ear and my jaw drops. I shouldn't really be surprised. Emilia’s been seeing Thayer for several months now, and the two of them have been very happy together. It's been years since she buried Jared, her last husband, and I think Thayer’s perfect for her.

I smile at her, telling myself that I need to hug her later.

"Come on, quick. Jorgen must be getting worried. I don't want any nonsense like that during our wedding, Dazzy. Everything has to go smoothly," Lenin says to his fiancé, who starts laughing. Jetli smacks him in the head and I giggle stopping just outside the temple.

For a second, I wonder how my parents would react if they were still alive. They would have approved of me marrying Jorgen—the Duke of Rivenna. I have no idea what happened to my human aunt and uncle. I sent them an invitation for the wedding, but they never responded. Someone must have informed them that their house was destroyed, so they chose not to come back.

Edvard’s waiting for me just outside. He looks very smart wearing a black suit.

After everything was over, my uncle revealed that Ruscal purposely kept him alive. We were all convinced that he died, especially Aria. Their connection was broken, but obviously it wasn't his time yet.

"Astri, you look absolutely stunning. It's an honour for me to walk you down the aisle," Edvard says.

I nod to the guards and they finally open the door. Edvard smiles at me and gently pushes me forward. Emilia’s behind me and I hold my head high, smiling. Everyone’s staring at me, it's my day.

I'm marrying the mage, Jorgen II, the Duke of Rivenna. When I stand in front of him, looking so handsome and proud, my heart swells in my chest.

The guests are seated and the ceremony begins. Aria stands next to her father, sobbing loudly. The Pixies are flying around, and Jetli places a rose in my hair. Jorgen’s eyes are filled with love and I know this is the beginning of our happily ever after.

"You're beautiful, and I can't wait to become your husband," Jorgen whispers in my ear. I smile, and then we both turn and face Hommis to say our vows.
