Making Merry: A Christmas Romance

“Let me check in with Stephanie and we’ll go… I don’t want to wait thirty minutes. I don’t even want to wait five minutes,” Holly admitted.

She rushed, as much as she could, toward her sister. Stephanie greeted her with a quick hug. “I know. Go. It’s under control.”

Holly laughed. “If you need me just call.”

“I don’t need you. Your husband needs you… and you need rest. Go!” Stephanie said and ushered her off once more.

Not even ten minutes later they were in Nathan’s SUV heading out of the city. A light snow was falling, adding to the blanket of white that already covered everything. Christmas lights glinted and gleamed in the darkness.

“This time of year was always special to me,” Holly said. “Christmas was always magical to me… but it’s even more so now. Because I never see Christmas lights that I don’t think about you dragging over those battery powered trees and giving me the perfect Christmas Eve while we were locked in.”

Nathan eased the car onto the highway, driving North toward around the lake. “You’re the magic, Holly. It’s all you. I love you so much. More every day.”

Holly settled back against the leather upholstery, savoring a kind of warmth that had nothing to do with the luxurious heated seats. Her life had taken a turn that was unexpected and so amazing that she didn’t even have words for it. But she was pretty sure her grandmother had pulled some celestial strings to make it all happen. “Gran loved happy endings,” Holly mused. “I like to think she had a hand in ours.”

“I like that idea,” he agreed. “Now I’d advise you to take a nap, Mrs. Bishop, because I plan to have my wicked way you as soon as I get you in that cabin.”

And that plan had her complete endorsement, she thought with a coated smile and closed her eyes.

  Afterword

Thank you all for reading Making Merry. Typically, I write Historical Romance. But I love Christmas and all the trimmings that surround it. This story, in a much more abbreviated fashion, was published years ago under a pen name. I decided to revisit it and keep all the things I’d loved about it while building and adding to it to make it a more complete romance. I hope you enjoyed my foray into Contemporary Romance and I hope you’ll check out some of my Historical work. And for my Historical readers, thank you for taking a chance on this unexpected project.

Merry Christmas to you all, and God bless us everyone.
