A Contractual Affair

by Catherine Wilmot

After Elizabeth and Darcy had finally gotten their children back into their rooms and cleaned up, there was finally time to spend with each other without the sound of their children playing together or screaming at the top of their lungs. It was odd that the two had grown up hearing British accents, yet had developed a mix of an Irish accent with their own parents’ accents. It was an odd little detail that made them all the more endearing.

Grasping Elizabeth’s hands in his own, Darcy pulled his wife closer so that their noses barely touched. Even now, Elizabeth would never get over these heart-racing moments that Darcy was prone to acting out on. Under his touch, she seemed to melt.

“I love you.” He whispered, planting a small kiss onto her lips. Elizabeth smiled into the kiss, immediately closing her eyes. Once they separated, she whispered back.

“I love you too.” And at that moment, it felt as if everything that had happened, whether bad or good, had all been worth it. Elizabeth and Darcy were finally happy.
