The next morning the Pack Leader stumbled out of bed when the alarm went off and staggered across the landing towards the bathroom.
Ruff was snoring in the deep sleep of those who have been up half the night but have accomplished a great deed.
Tumble, who hadn’t slept at all, opened one eyelid and watched the Pack Leader’s back disappear into the bathroom. The door closed and the light flickered on. Tumble shuffled deeper into her fleecy mattress, wishing that it would swallow her up.
There was a slight pause and then the Pack Leader thundered, “Doggggs!”
The door burst back open. “Why are all my socks stuffed down the toilet!”
