Constable Hopwood called into Hawkins Grove on his way back from Langley Park and informed Lillian that he had been to see her brother and that he refused to believe that she was alive.
“What are you going to do?”
“The only thing I can do, Mr Hopwood, go and see my mother.”
Constable Hopwood looked at Jim who was standing beside the seated Lillian and Matilda.
“Do you think that is wise?” he asked.
“I don’t have any problem with Lillian wanting to see her mother,” said Jim. “We will go first thing in the morning.”
“If you must go, then allow me to join you.”
Jim was about to say no, but then realized that it might be a good idea. Frank and Robert were not beyond any dastardly deeds. “We will see you in the morning then Constable.”
