I Need You (Learning to Let Go)

He told her that once they got to Colorado, and got settled, they would work on setting some hard and soft limits, but for now, they were practicing in a more relaxed way. Sara was grateful for that, since the way it was now, she was being punished often enough. She couldn’t imagine what it would be like when Chris insisted on high protocol.
“Charlie, did Chris say where he was going?” Sara asked the dark-haired doctor after he had scooped up Bryn out of her chair, and sat down again with her in his lap.
After wiping his sweaty brow on Bryn’s tank top, which earned him a playful smack on his arm, he answered, “No, he didn’t. I didn’t know he wasn’t allowed to wander around on his own.”
Bryn turned in his lap, and smacked him even harder on his arm. “Stop being a dick, Charlie.”
“That’s twice, kitten,” he said as he hoisted them both out of the chair. Charlie bent at the knees and tossed Bryn over his shoulder, “Time to go home. Later, Sara.”
Bryn was flaying the whole way back to their motorcycle, cursing a blue streak. Sara heard two sharp cracks split the evening air, before Bryn quieted down. Then a motorcycle roared to life and practically broke the light barrier racing back towards town.
Sara was still giggling when she made her way back to the truck and trailer. Not seeing Chris, she made her way inside the now, empty trailer. After searching every room, she gave up and called out his name.
“Yes, baby?” he said from the doorway.
“Hey, I couldn’t find you. Where did you go?”
Chris was bare-chested, only wearing a pair of low-slung jeans, showing off his delicious V-pack muscles. The rest of his killer body was toned and perfectly sculpted, making Sara’s mouth water. There were days she had to pinch herself to make sure he wasn’t a fantasy. His once previously over bleached hair was now thankfully back to his normal mixed blond color since he let Sara cut off the dyed mess. His green eyes were sparkling with laughter as he asked, “Keeping tabs on me, are we, little one?”
Sara cocked her eyebrow playfully as she sauntered into his arms. “Yes, someone needs to. I wanted to make sure your shoulder is okay.”
Chris stepped back, and glared. “Yes, it’s fine. I was talking with someone is all.”
“Who?”
“Does it matter?”
“Not really. I was just curious. If you don’t want to tell me, that’s fine.”
Chris pulled her back into his arms, resting his chin on top of her head. After sighing, he answered, “Darrin stopped to chat.”
Sara tried to pull back to look at his face, but Chris kept her held tightly in his arms. “What did he say?” she hissed.
After a teasing pat on her butt, Chris chided her, “Now stop it, Sara. He wanted to wish us well, I guess. There were no punches thrown, or blood flying.”
“What do you mean, ‘you guess’? What exactly did he say?”
“He told me that if I hurt you, he would track me down. Then I told him that I didn’t expect any less.”
“That’s it?” Sara asked incredulously.
“Yup. Guy posturing, that’s all.” He kissed her hair and then pulled her back out the door. “We have all your stuff now, right?”
Sara remembered packing up her entire wardrobe that she intended to keep into five large boxes. Most everything in the kitchen was second hand and didn’t need to make the trip. She had one box full of mementos and pictures, but that was it. Everything that she was taking fit in the jump seats in the pick-up Chris had rented for the drive.
Once the furniture was unloaded at the thrift store, Chris would load up his motorcycle in the trailer and they were ready to go. They hadn’t planned on leaving until the next morning. Of course after a quick breakfast with Bryn and Charlie. It was almost surreal that she would be leaving again, and with the man that completed her mind, body and soul.
Sara was hesitant at first to move back to Colorado, permanently. Once Bryn and Charlie had gotten home, and they all had a few terse conversations about moving, Sara and Chris agreed that there would be more opportunities for both of them in Colorado. Chris already had a host of contacts at the local gyms where he could be a trainer, he had a fully furnished apartment, and the college was nearby so that Sara could go back to school. After Bryn had given the move her seal of approval without too many arguments, Sara was sure that her sister was going to be just fine here in Wisconsin. Especially after getting to know Charlie, and seeing how much he cared about Bryn.
Sara’s cell phone vibrated in her pocket, nearly scaring her out of her own skin. Pulling it from her pocket, she didn’t recognize the number, but answered it anyway.
“Hello?”
“Sara Lonneman?”
“Yes. May I ask who this is?”
“Of course, this is Becca from the Humane Society. We did find homes for all the puppies you had offered to foster care for, but we do have a few other animals that need placement. Would you be interested?”
Sara had completely forgotten about her offer to take in an abandoned dog when she was still staying with Darrin. Her heart sunk that she was going to have to turn them down, but she didn’t have a choice.
“I’m sorry, Becca. I’m moving to Colorado with my boyfriend. I won’t be able to commit to being a caretaker anymore. I really am sorry.”
After a long pause, Becca asked, “That’s okay. Is your boyfriend back in the service? Is that why you are moving?”
Sara was completely thrown off by her comment. There was no way that Chris had met Becca, nor had he ever been in the service. It quickly dawned on her that she was referring to Darrin.
Sara laughed to herself, before she gave Becca what would be good news. “Oh, you mean Darrin. No, he’s not my boyfriend.”
“Really?” She didn’t even try to keep the elation out of her voice and it didn’t bother Sara one bit. Everyone deserved to find happiness in their lives, and maybe Becca’s full of herself attitude would be good for Darrin.
“Yup. He’s all yours, sweetie. Have a great day!”
Sara rolled her eyes as she shook her head back and forth. Chris was still standing there and had a pained look on his face as he asked, “What was that all about?”
After Sara gave him the abbreviated version of her meeting with Becca, Chris gave her another sexy smile. “So you threw Darrin to the wolves, huh?”
Shrugging, she replied, “I wouldn’t say that. I don’t have any romantic feelings for Darrin, but I do hope that he can find someone who makes him happy. He certainly won’t go out looking for someone himself, so I just gave it a push, that’s all.”
Chris kissed her forehead, as he wrapped her up in his arms. After a few minutes passed, he had started trailing kisses down her face until he was nibbling on her neck. The gentle pressure of his mouth turned into a sharp bite and she squealed and pulled back from his arms. Sara backed up slowly, watching his expression for any signs of how much trouble she was soon to be in.
Finally, Chris put one hand on his hip and held the other hand up in the air with all five fingers spread out. He pulled one finger down, and then another, making an inaudible count down on his hand.
Sara was terrified when he got to two fingers, and held up her hands and screamed, “Wait, Chris! I’m sorry. I’m sorry.”
“I can’t wait to get your bratty ass back to Colorado. My membership at Dominic’s club is still very active, and I plan on lighting you up, properly, my little one.”
Then his last two fingers slowly pulled back down, and instead running away from Chris, Sara ran straight into his open arms.
“I sure hope so, Master.”
