I cut off the rest of her comments by sweeping her into my arms for one very long, very hot kiss. By the time we separated, the rest of the Shadow Foxes were staring at us in open amusement.
“If you want, the rest of us could go for a walk,” Imogen offered with a quirked brow.
“Actually,” I replied, “we have news to share.”
“Oh, dear,” Maruk sighed. “I’m starting to dread those kinds of statements.”
“It’s good news,” Aerin assured him, then quickly clamped a hand over her mouth.
“Tell them,” I encouraged Yvaine, “before the elf does.”
“I’m pregnant,” Yvaine declared happily.
“Another one?” Dehn asked as he looked back and forth between Lavinia and Yvaine.
The rest of the Shadow Foxes surged forward to hug Yvaine and offer their congratulations. Maruk pounded me on the back, nearly driving me to my knees. Lena placed her hand on Yvaine’s stomach and started talking to the child. Emeline had another happy dance going, which she dragged Dehn into. Aerin proudly announced that she knew before anyone else, even the mother. And Lavinia sidled up to me with a knowing smile. She gave me a soft punch in the arm and dropped her head to my shoulder.
“Well, it looks like our child will have a playmate,” Lavinia whispered into my ear.
“I just hope they get along,” I replied.
“I’m sure they will,” Lavinia purred. “Or I’ll make them get along.”
I laughed though it turned into a cough when Maruk pounded me on the back again. This was my family now, I realized, and these were the moments that bound us together. I would do anything to defend them, and to leave my children in a better world. I would take on Maderel and his mage army and I would defeat them.
It was that simple.
