He moved but my body was hot. My cheeks grew warmer and my pussy throbbed. I wanted him to take me right there.

“Come on,” he said, giving my hand a gentle tug.

Reaching the house, we entered through the tall front doors. At once, I felt at home in the familiar surroundings or perhaps, it was the fact that Killian lived there. The lady who’d helped me to wash up and dress before stood there to greet us.

  “Hello, Mary,” I said.

  “Hello, Miss.”

“Irene will be staying with me from now on,” said Killian. “I’ll have to trouble you to get her clothes, shoes and everything else she might need.” He looked towards me and gestured at the housekeeper. “If you need anything, just ask her. She will get it for you.”

“Thank you,” I told them both.

“It’s such a lovely day today,” said Mary. “Are you taking Miss somewhere nice?”

Killian glanced at me. “Would you like to stay home or go someplace?”

“I’ve stayed indoors far too long.” I thought for a moment to decide where to go. “Can you take me to a park? I’ve always wanted to visit one since I was a child and saw pictures of it in my books.”

Killian’s expression softened as he nodded. “Would you like Joe and Eva to come with us?”

I nodded. “That would be nice.”

Taking his phone out, he called them. After a few minutes conversation, he hung up and faced me. “They are coming. There’s a park close to our house. It will be filled with families gathering up for picnics.”

“Wow,” I breathed. “Will there will ice cream stalls too?”

  He nodded.

I clapped my hands in delight. “That’s great! I’ve always wanted to taste ice cream.”

  “All right.”

I couldn’t stop the smile stretching my lips wide. Killian always said ‘yes’ to my every request. He was everything I ever wanted from the prince who would rescue me. He was impossibly handsome, strong and kind.

My parents arrived within ten minutes. They were both smiling, eager to accompany me to the park.

“This is Irene’s first time at the park,” said Killian. “We must make it a trip to remember.”

Both my parents’ eyes watered at once. Mother stepped forward to embrace me. “It’s not your first time, honey. We used to take you to the park every day.”

  “Really?”

“Yes, sweetheart. You loved blowing on the dandelions growing there.”

Something seemed to click inside me. I really loved dandelions and the way the furry wisps would float away in the air.

“Let’s not waste more time,” said Father. “We’ll treat it as your first trip. Daddy used to buy you ice creams and cotton candy back then. These days they have better food with food trucks lining up the street.”

My heart soared as Killian clasped my hand, leading the way out of the house with my parents following behind us. The afternoon sun was warm and a cool breeze blew all around us. Wisps of dandelion floated by, making me want to fly away with them.

More and more people appeared on the street the closer we got to the park. The sound of people talking reached my ears just as the green expanse came into my view. Tall trees in full bloom dotted the place. Several children played around us, their shrieks of laughter punctuating the air every now and then. People close to my age also sat around in groups or watched babies of their own.

I leaned further into Killian, happy to be with the person I loved most. Loneliness no longer plagued me. My parents came to stand beside, pointing towards the direction of good walks, food trucks and ice cream vendors. I was too full of happiness to feel hungry at the moment.

“Shall we walk?” I suggested. “It’s nice to just watch other people.”

“Of course, sweetheart,” agreed Mother. “Anything you like.”

“You are so nice to me, Mother,” I said, smiling at her. “Aren’t you afraid you’ll spoil me?”

She laughed, glancing at her husband. “We would love to spoil you, child. You deserve it.”

Killian and I chuckled, moving forward to walk towards a path that wasn’t already too crowded. The sky above us was a clear blue. I was slowly beginning to see the difference between my real mother and Nicole. Mother and Father were happy to simply be with me, unlike Nicole, who was happy only when she coerced me into doing what she willed.

“I love you,” I said aloud. Halting, I turned around to face my parents. “I love you both.”

“Oh, honey,” said Mother, moving forward to hug me tight. “We love you so much.”

Father hugged me from the back. Killian watched us with a smile and soon, he extended his long arms, encircling all three of us in a giant hug. We laughed freely but there were tears in my eyes. I was finally tasting true happiness with my real family and the love of my life.

  EPILOGUE

  Irene

  Five years later

Snow fell thickly outside the windows, the landscape a blur of white as evening set in. Despite the temperatures plummeting steadily, it was warm and cozy inside the house. The most beautiful Christmas tree, bedecked with gold tinsel and silver ornaments, stood proudly in the corner.

“When can we open the pwesents?” asked Eira, my four-year-old daughter. Her dark curls were divided in two pigtails and she wore a funny, red Christmas sweater that her grandmother knit her that winter.

“Not until tomorrow morning, sweetheart,” said Mother who sat with my two-year-old son in her lap, making sure he wouldn’t grab a piece of tinsel and put it in his mouth.

I sat back in a giant armchair, purchased specially for me. Killian brought it in as soon as the news of my first pregnancy was broken to him. He set it in the living room, right by the window which was my favorite spot in the house. A sigh escaped me, thinking back to the time five years ago. We’d only been married two months but I was already more than a month into my pregnancy.

Killian was mad with joy, unable to resist the temptation to call and announce the news to everyone he knew. My parents had rushed into our home within minutes. In no time at all, I was surrounded by the people I loved the most in this world.

A part of me had been scared. While I wanted to have lots of children, only time would tell whether I could be good mother. Being brought up by someone as cold and selfish as Nicole, I often wondered if I was suited to look after a child. When I confided in Killian, he got fierce. “Nicole’s madness never touched you, Irene. Your heart is too pure for you to worry about something like that.”

Even if I had little faith in me, I believed Killian. He never made me feel lonely, always making sure to be by my side anytime I needed him. Mary was on round-the-clock duty for the times he was away on business. I was practically surrounded by people, never having the time to feel solitude.

My hand rested on the swell of my belly. We were expecting our third child in the coming year.

“Have some hot chocolate,” said Killian, bringing me out of my thoughts. He was standing before me with a small tray and a mug of my favorite drink topped with mounds of whipped cream and colorful sprinkles.

“Thank you,” I said, accepting the mug and raising my head so he could kiss me. Leaning down, he took my lips and nipped me gently. The last action had me moaning out, opening my mouth to me. He swiped his tongue over the bite, soothing the sting before moving away.

“Stop teasing me,” I hissed while he looked at me with a devilish grin. His gray eyes danced with mirth, knowing I couldn’t say too much in front of my mother and the kids. “Just you wait,” I whispered, pouting.

“Daddy!” chorused both the children, running forward to give him hugs. They barely came up to his knees. Each child hugged one of his legs while he patted them on the head. Bending down, he picked them up, one in each arm. Their collective giggles of glee filled the living room.

  Mother glanced at me, smiling.

A sigh of content escaped me as I watched Killian with my children in his arm
s. Soon our third child will join the family. I could already see him perched on my husband’s shoulder. A smile rose to my lips. I was blessed with my greatest desires. The years of loneliness were erased by all the joy my family brought me daily.
