Rooming With the Supernatural

People think the alpha is all-powerful, but the truth is his power comes not just from himself as a dominate wolf, but also his role as alpha and how much his people believe in him. That’s why alphas rule for the most part; but can be voted out if they try to use the pack in a manner that is disgraceful.

"Very well. I break our pack bonds now. I will leave. I do not wish to rule without my son here to take my place one day."

He walks out and everyone looks around. One wolf walks forward. The one I have trained with the most. He is not that strong surely.

Al stands and shoves me behind him growling. Now that no one is alpha, the power they sense is how much each wolf has, not what the pack had by pecking order. Fiona and Fergus react the same as Al. It looks like we had a hidden alpha the whole time.

"I offer my life to a lifetime of service to the pack."

He is young, older than Al and I, but younger than our parents for sure. Early twenties tops.

  "Young, but wise. We accept."

The mantle finds its home in him and he shines with the newness of it. Wow. I have never seen a crowning before.

"The official ceremony will be tonight by moonlight, but for now we need to blood promise that these will never cause harm again."

All but one agrees. He tries to go back. He tries to run. He is weak with silver keeping him contained. The new alpha stalks over and snaps his neck. Well this one is making a statement. I wonder how it will turn out.

Though right now I just want Heather's magic to be done so we can leave. Still I say nothing and stand watching patiently. The alpha contributes to the blood promise then comes over and kneels down in front of me.

  "Alpha."

He smiles up at me. I always just called him Aaron when he trained with me. He smiles at the change and takes my hand in his and sniffs.

"You had venom in you. You are lucky for the bond with this vampire or you would be one of us now. Pity I say."

I pull my hand back glad Al bit me and bonded us years ago. I am so glad I can’t even sigh in relief.

"She would still be one of our clan and family. Wolf or not."

It touches me that dad says so. Al and Fiona agree and I feel safe again. Safe and loved. They really do mean it. Well Al does. I can feel it.

"I think you would make a very strong wolf. Maybe even an alpha."

"Guess we will never know will we."

  He smiles. "Guess not."

We turn and leave. Finally, it is over.

"Amber hurry, classes start later today and we still have to move all our stuff to our new dorm!"

We are heading back to school as they are ready to once again restart the year. Literally restart. So much has happened it will be day one all over again. They couldn’t keep any semblance of normal so they sent everyone home for a month to try again when things calmed down.

The truth about Al and I is out. The incident with the wolves is fodder for gossip. Al and I had been somewhat glad for the break because not only did we get some practice in on controlling our own emotions when separated and how not to 'suggest' things to one another, but also, we hate how people look at us and the questions they ask.

We are getting back a day early so we can move into the new dorm that was sound proofed for feeding before the hordes arrive.

I go outside with my one bag and a smile. "Don’t be so impatient Al. We have to wait for…"

  "Wait for me lovebirds!"

"Heather, how nice of you to show!"

  She scowls at me.

"I saw you just step out of your house so don’t give me that crap."

"Says the girl that just called us lovebirds after telling me cutesy names were gross."

She laughs shrugging and pulls out her unlimited portal pass pressing the button for the school. We follow suit and the portal opens for three.

"Please, I saw that feeding. You two are gonna be shacking up before you know it."

She walks through giving us no time to argue. Al and I don’t look at one another. No matter how close this bond makes us we still are embarrassed about that. Nothing has changed. We are not dating but, well, our world is different now.

"So, I believe I asked before, but ready for college?"

I laugh and shake my head.

"If it is at all as exciting as the first attempt, not at all."

  He takes my hand smiling.

"Bright side, it can't get worse."

  "Don't jinx it!"

We walk through and come out the other side laughing. Round two!
