Complicate Me (Hawthorn Hills Duet Book 1) Page 7

by Claire Raye

“Oh my god. Fuck you, Reid.”

He laughs again, reaching for my hand and I pull away, narrowing my eyes at him and hating him once more.

“Come on, Sie,” he taunts, cocking his head to the side and hitting me with a smile. “You know I appreciate you coming here.”

“Whatever,” I say, pulling up a chair and sitting next to him. “You gonna need a ride home?” I ask now, keeping things in the little box we created years ago.

“Yeah, probably if you don’t mind. Did you go get my truck?” he asks and the thought never even crossed my mind. Why would he think I would go into his house and get his keys?

“No, I borrowed Ruby’s car. Why would you think I’d have your truck?”

“Dunno. Just thought maybe…” he trails off, the conversation taking a weird turn.

A doctor enters the room, Reid’s chart in his hand as he flips through it and then looks up at us.

“It’s a concussion,” the doctor simply states, nothing concerning in his voice or in his mannerisms. “CT scan looks good.” The doctor nods his head, continuing to look through the chart. “Since this is your second one in two years, it’s seventy-two hours of brain rest and no football for at least four weeks. The team doctor has been notified and if you hang on for a minute the nurse will be in to discharge you.”

He doesn’t bother to ask if we have any questions and Reid doesn’t seem to be at all fazed by what he was just told. In all honesty, Reid looks like he couldn’t give a shit as he scrolls through his phone.

“Excuse me,” I call out, stopping the doctor and he backtracks into the room. “What’s brain rest?”

“No electronics of any kind, no reading, television, games…”

I interrupt him before he can finish, “So he shouldn’t be on his phone right now then?”

“Nope,” the doctor says, quickly exiting before I can hit him with anymore questions.

I reach over and pluck Reid’s phone from his hands and he whips his head around to look at me, but instead of hitting me with an offended look, he scrunches up his eyes, his face twisting in pain.

“Reid, take it easy,” I admonish. “You heard the doctor. You’re basically doing fuck all for the next three days.”

“Did he say anything about sex? I missed that,” Reid says, and I roll my eyes, and let out a fake gagging noise.

  “Stop it.”

Five hours later, I’m pulling into the alleyway behind our houses. Luckily Reid lives only two houses down from me, so returning Ruby’s car is easy and I can also help Reid get settled at his house.

His house is quiet when we walk in, and I’m grateful for the stillness of a house that is always filled with people. It’s a Friday night and everyone is at the bars or parties celebrating and for Reid’s sake I hope it stays quiet. He doesn’t need everyone’s bullshit right now.

I look over at the gross sofa that fills the living room. It’s tattered and stained and it makes me shudder a little as I think about him recovering on it, but I can only do so much.

Reid flops down on it and immediately grabs for the TV remote.

“What the hell are you doing?” I demand. “No electronics!” I snatch it from his hand and toss it onto a nearby chair.

“What the hell am I supposed to do then?” he asks, annoyed with my presence already.

“I don’t know. Listen to some music? Reflect on all the poor choices you’ve made in your life? Make a list of women you’ve slept with? That one should take you the full seventy-two hours.” I don’t know why I’m being so mean to him. I’m here to help in his recovery, but I can already tell this isn’t going to work.

I take in a slow breath, reminding myself he’s just been hurt and his life is about to be totally different for the next few weeks.

“Are you hungry? Can I get you something to eat?” I ask him, trying to force the niceness into my words.

“Yeah, come over here and sit on my face,” he says, letting out a rowdy laugh as I feel my face heat up at his words.

“Don’t be disgusting, Reid,” I shoot back, trying to keep my thoughts from picturing what he just suggested. Why does his dirty talk make me want him even more? Ugh…

I open his refrigerator and find it’s filled with beer, old Jell-O shots, a loaf of bread and a bunch of restaurant packets of ketchup.

“Reid, you have nothing to eat,” I tell him, slamming the fridge.

“Yeah, I know. Maybe there’s a frozen pizza?” he suggests and I open the freezer, shoving aside a bottle of vodka and two cartons of ice cream, I find a small cheese pizza.

“I’ll make you this, but I’ve got some other stuff at my house. I’m going to put this in the oven and run back over there. Don’t do anything stupid while I’m gone.”

“Can’t make any promises,” he jokes as I slip out the back door.

Ruby is on the sofa studying when I walk in and she jumps up immediately.

“Is he okay?” she asks, concern blanketing her perfect little pixie face.

“He’s fine. Just a concussion. I’m gonna bring him some food and then I’ll be home.”

“You should bring him more than some food,” she teases, shaking her ass and laughing.

I scowl at her as I shoot her a slow blink but fail to acknowledge her words.

I grab an apple a few carrots and some cartons of yogurt, shoving them into a bag. I don’t want to bring too many things over there because I’m sure his roommates will eat everything before he even has a chance.

I’m back at Reid’s in just a few minutes and he’s right where I left him. His eyes are closed and he looks to be asleep, peaceful and quiet and my heart nearly bursts in my chest thinking about how close we came to this being something more than just a concussion. His shirt is thrown off to the side of the sofa and I take a second to appreciate just how physically stunning he really is. I take in every part of him: his perfectly rippled stomach, the lines of his tattoos that cover his bulging bicep and run down the length of his arm and I wanna trace them with my fingers, with my tongue. I want to cover his body with mine.

What the fuck am I thinking!

The oven timer chimes and thankfully so. The pizza is done and I pull it from the oven, setting it off to the side while I slice up the apple. I grab a knife from the sink, washing it first, as I begin to slice, my thoughts wandering to Reid’s comment about sitting on his face.

“Shit!” I call out, grabbing my finger that I’ve just sliced at with the knife. It’s not deep but it burns, blood forming in a perfectly straight line.

Suddenly Reid is standing next to me and he says nothing as he takes my hand in his and before I can stop him, he sucks my finger into his mouth. My heart stops in my chest and my mouth falls open of its own accord, and I’m staring into Reid’s eyes as he sucks hard at my finger. He looks at me like I’m the only girl he’s ever seen, like he hasn’t been inside more girls than he can keep track of. His mouth is like a hardline to every nerve in my body and they’re all firing at once. My breathing grows ragged, my knees weak and I hate to even think it, but my panties are soaked. Sucking my finger harder, his pupils grow wide, his eyes glazed with lust and desire, and I now know why girls throw themselves at him. It’s taking everything in me not to do it myself.

  Someone fucking save me.

  Chapter Eight

  Reid

Sienna looks up at me, her eyes dark, her pupils dilated so there’s almost no blue to see anymore. Her pulse is pounding in her neck as I continue to suck on her finger. I swear she’s practically panting and when I slowly pull her finger from my mouth, I actually hear her whimper.

I grin and she tries to pull her hand away, but I don’t let her, sucking her finger into my mouth again, gentler this time.

“Reid,” she murmurs, her voice husky and low and I swear my dick instantly hardens.

“What?” I whisper, her finger still in my mouth.

“What…” She swallows hard. “What are you doing?”
/>
I grin, swirling my tongue around, teasing her a little. I’m sure it’s stopped bleeding by now, but I don’t really care, too caught up in this reaction she’s having to me, to the way she’s making me feel, her finger in my mouth, her body close to mine. It’s creating all sorts of dark and dirty fantasies in my mind.

“Reid, don’t,” she says, tugging at her finger. “That’s gross.”

I smirk at her. “I’m clean, Sienna. No diseases here.”

She raises an eyebrow at me as she tugs on her finger again. “Really? A man-whore like you?”

I burst out laughing, giving her an opportunity to pull her finger from my mouth this time. But I don’t let go, holding her hand in mine as I stare down at her, our gazes locked. “Yes, Sienna, really,” I tell her. “Because, despite my man-whoring ways as you call them,” I air quote the man-whoring comment, still holding her hand, “I don’t fuck without a condom. Ever.”

Her breath catches and she swallows hard before regaining her composure. “Uh huh, and what about all the pussy you eat. You can’t tell me that’s clean, knowing your standards.” She’s got a disgusted look on her face now and if I didn’t know better, I’d swear she was jealous.

  I chuckle. “Easy, I don’t eat pussy.”

“What?” she asks and I know my answer has shocked her. “But you…you’re…you’re you?”

I shrug as my free hand reaches out and tucks a strand of hair behind her ear. “And?”

Sienna shakes her head in disbelief. “And you mean to tell me you’ve never gone down on a girl?”

This time it’s me shaking my head. “Nope.”

“Why?” she asks, confused. “‘Cause you don’t know how?”

I burst out laughing. “I know how, trust me.”

  “But…”

“But I’ve got fingers, Sienna,” I say, running one of those fingers down her nose. “I know what I’m doing down there,” I add, my eyes flicking downward. “Trust me.”

She swallows hard, the movement of her throat only getting me harder.

“Then…” she pauses, shaking her head as though she isn’t sure she wants to ask this question. “Then why don’t you, you know…” Her cheeks flush a little now and it sends a spike of lust straight to my dick.

It isn’t easy to make Sienna blush. Having spent most of her life hanging out with guys like Caleb and me, she can talk and hear shit with the best of them.

But this is different now, because now we’re talking about something far more personal, far more intimate. And as she stares up at me, I know she’s thinking back to that comment I made in the living room, when she asked if I wanted something to eat.

…come over here and sit on my face…

I wonder what would’ve happened had she said yes, had she turned to me and said, okay, before pulling off her panties. As unexpected as it would’ve been, I know exactly what I would’ve done, and I would not have hesitated for a single second. I would have gripped her thighs with both hands and lowered her to my face, not letting go until she was screaming my name and coming hard…many times.

“Reid,” she prompts as a very real visual of her letting me eat her out flashes through my brain.

“Because,” I tell her, our eyes locked, my voice low, “eating a girl out is far more intimate than sex, Sienna. It’s not…” I pause, swallowing hard, wondering if she can tell just how turned on I am right now. “It’s not something I’d do with just anyone,” I whisper, silently begging her to ask me exactly who I would do it with.

Because if she asks, I don’t think I’d be telling her who. I’d be showing her who.

  Fuck.

But she doesn’t, instead she just stares at me for a second longer, before nudging my chest and saying, “Go lie down. I’ll bring you your food,” before turning back to the counter.

Sienna stays with me for a long as it takes me to finish my dinner. Afterward, she takes the dishes to the kitchen, where I hear the sound of them being washed before she comes back to the living room to help me to bed.

Although I’d normally not be caught dead in bed at this time on a Friday night, this hit has taken it out of me. And as Sienna pulls back the covers and I fall into bed, I know that’s the reason I hold an arm out to her as I murmur, “Come, lie down with me for a bit.”

She stands by the side of my bed, watching me as she shakes her head. “You need to rest, Reid.”

“I am resting,” I tell her. “I just wanna rest with you.”

She shakes her head again, but says nothing now, as she draws the duvet over me and lays my phone on the nightstand.

“Try and get some sleep,” she whispers, walking to the door. “I’ll come check on you tomorrow.”

When I wake the next morning, there’s some Tylenol and water on my nightstand, next to a plate with two donuts and a bottle of juice. Squinting at what I know wasn’t there when I fell asleep last night, I can’t help but wonder exactly when Sienna brought this over.

Did she come back when I was asleep last night or did she sneak in this morning?

Both options are intriguing, not least because apart from last night, Sienna has never set foot inside my bedroom. A part of me can’t help but wonder if she snooped while I was sleeping or if it was a quick in and out in the hopes of me not waking up.

Either way, I wish I’d known when she was here, because the idea of having her, alone in my bedroom, was a fucking turn-on. More than I care to admit.

After I scarf down the two donuts, I put back a couple of Tylenol and pull myself from my bed, walking into the living room with the juice in my hand.

“Hey, morning sunshine,” Matt calls, grinning. “How’s the head?”

I shrug, my eyes squinting against the late morning sun that streams in the front window. “Sore,” I tell him. “What happened with the rest of the game?”

“We won,” he says, chuckling. “Actually, we creamed them. It was huge. Pity you had to go and knock yourself out.”

I scoff. “I didn’t knock myself out, fuckhead. It was that idiot Jesse’s fault,” I say, blaming it all on our left tackle. “If he’d have pulled his head out of his ass, I wouldn’t have been knocked out like I was.”

“Meh, maybe,” Matt says, still grinning. “Guess if you hadn’t been so busy staring at Sienna all night, you mighta had your whole head in the game instead of halfway up your ass.”

“Fuck off,” I say, kicking his leg as I walk past and collapse on the sofa.

“Just sayin’ it like it is,” he says. “Anyway, you missed a helluva party afterward over at Simon’s place. It was epic.”

Explains why it was so quiet here last night and this morning. Everyone fucked off somewhere else to get drunk and are busy nursing their mammoth hangovers this morning. As much as I wish I hadn’t been knocked out last night and missed the rest of the game, I can’t deny that getting to spend just that small amount of time with Sienna, when her defenses were down and she wasn’t pissed at me, was pretty good.

“That Justin idiot was there,” Matt says, almost as an afterthought.

My ears prick up, knowing there’s not a chance in hell he was there with Sienna considering she spent most of the night with me. I don’t know what time it was when she eventually went home, but considering how long I’d spent in the hospital, it had to have been late. Too late to then go out and party.

“Oh yeah,” I ask, trying to feign disinterest. “And what was the shithead up to?”

Matt bursts out laughing. “You’re such an idiot, Reid,” he says. “And no, before you ask, he wasn’t there with Sienna.”

I roll my eyes at him. “I know. She was here with me.”

“Oh really?” Matt asks, eyes widening in surprise. “Now that’s something new.”

I take a swig of orange juice. “Fuck off,” I tell him.

He chuckles. “She came by this morning too,” he adds, his head tiling toward the juice in my hand. “Obviously to bring you breakfast in bed. What the h
ell happened? You finally give in and tell her how you feel about her?”

I ignore his comment, my head falling back onto the sofa as my eyes close. Despite the Tylenol, there’s still a dull ache at the back of my head, one I know from past experience, isn’t going away anytime soon.

“Reid?” Matt asks, nudging my foot.

“What?” I ask, my eyes still closed.

  “Did you?” he prompts.

“Did I what?” I ask, stalling.

Matt exhales in annoyance. “Did you tell her how you feel?”

I crack one eye open and fix it on him. “There’s nothing to tell.”

“Right,” he says, rolling his eyes. “Obviously that knock to the head didn’t knock any fucking sense into you, did it?”

“Whatever. Anyway, tell me what Justin was doing.”

“Well, he was all over Chantel,” he says and my eyes fly open. Matt smirks at me, knowing he’s got me interested now. “Yep, had his tongue down her mouth for most of the night.”

“Fucking asshole,” I say through gritted teeth.

“Oh, that’s not even the best part,” Matt says, laughing a little. “No, that was when he disappeared upstairs with Chantel and her best friend.”

  “What?”

“Yep,” he says nodding. “Word on the street is the asshole had a threesome in Simon’s bedroom,” he says, chuckling a little. “Apparently Simon walked in and nearly lost his shit, until one of the chicks invited him to join them.”

“And?” I ask, incredulous. That fucking asshole.

“And who knows,” Matt says with a shrug. “Not something I’d wanna witness, that’s for sure.”

Shaking my head, I close my eyes as I once again try to figure out how the hell I’m going to keep this piece of shit away from Sienna.

After sleeping most of the day, I wake to find the house empty except for Logan and Amy, who are sitting on the sofa watching TV.

“Hey,” Logan says, as I wander into the living room, still wearing the sweats I pulled on when I came home last night. “How’s the head?”
