The authorities never caught the monster that killed Ron’s first wife. She was cremated and her ashes given to her mother.

Six months after recovery, Ron sold the house and relocated two cities away.

He’d met Kelly at a dentist office two years after that. She had cracked a filling on a pecan. They were wed within three months.

Ron first spotted the killer at a football game two years into their marriage. He’d bumped into him on his way back to his seat from the stadium concession stand.

“Sorry about that, buddy,” Ron said, and then faltered.

  It’s him.

  The man grunted, kept walking.

Ron dropped his plastic beer cup and leapt through the air. Both men came crashing down; Ron choking the man from behind.

It took several security officers to pry Ron loose. He’d been mistaken, but wasn’t aware of it until the handcuffs were on his wrists.

There were many erroneous sightings over the years, and each and every time he’d swear he was right.

  A second cruiser gave chase.

“I swear to God, Ron,” Kelly cried. “If we survive this, I’m going to—”

Ron gunned the engine and pulled alongside the killer’s sedan. The man shot him a glance.

  It’s him.

  Tires squealed.

Both vehicles fishtailed as Ron rammed him from the side.
