Overview
This timeline covers events both mentioned and experienced in The Hidden History of Oz, Book One: The Orphan Sorceress of Oz, Book Two: Dark Dreams in Oz, and Book Three: Dark Wind in Oz.
Events in this timeline are organized by the rule of the Kings of Oz. The Ozy year notation reflects the reckoning of the years in Oz since the establishment of Ozma the First as ruler over the Emerald Lands of Oz. This reckoning was adopted by other cultures as they assimilated into trade and relationships under the royal rule. Count of Oz years (Ozy).
Example: 1 Ozy / 685 AD / 1215 BDG
Where applicable, the years in common reckoning are included. The acronym BDG stands for Before Dorothy Gale, or the number of years before Dorothy Gale entered Emerald City in the story, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. For reckoning purposes, the year that Dorothy entered the Emerald City is set at the year 1900, which equates to 1 ADG (After Dorothy Gale) Note that there is no year 0.
This timeline is limited to events mentioned or alluded to in the first three books of the Hidden History of Oz series. In addition, common knowledge of certain events is included. While there are many more additional significant events not yet written, a more complete timeline can be found on the Hidden History of Oz blog.
Note: The Witches crossing the seas to gain the power of the Queen of Dreams was wrongly assigned to the Second Witch Wars in previous versions of the Chronology. The updated version found herein is the correct one.

The Faerie War / Pre-King era
Dragons magic destroys an early version of the seven-walled city of Atlantis. The dragons travel through a portal to find a new world. War of Serpentariis. Approximately 25,000 years ago. (Pre-Ozy 24,315).
Death of Nonesticus.
Sundering of Day and Night (Faerie War).
Arrival of Lurline's band of faeries to the land.
Naming of the Land of Oz.
Creation of the Emerald Engine, linking the two worlds through the conjoined dreamlands and the conversion of somnos (dreams) to magic.

Commissioned the building of the Onyx Labyrinth beneath the Emerald Fortress to protect the Emerald Engine from invading armies, and from the regular visits by the Queen of Dreams. The reflected darkness of the Onyx Labyrinth is a multi-layered labyrinth for those of Faerie blood.

Took a surname based on his mother's name. This name, Cornn, became the name of the royal family of Oz for many centuries.

Creation of the City of Parradime (294 Ozy / 978 AD). Parradime in the fairy tongue, or Smaragaid Cathair ("The Emerald City" in Gaelic or Old Ozzian.)
The Great Kings Oz
During the reign of these rulers, a long and bitter war was fought with the Nomes for control of the surface kingdoms. The Nomes were driven back to their underground kingdom. This involved the Queen of Dreams (Ereline) for the first time, when the Nomes appealed to her for help in their war. The Great Kings Oz included: King Oz the Fourth, King Oz the Fifth, Queen Ozma the Third, and King Oz the Sixth.
King Oz the Fourth

Commissioned building of the Grand Tower. This was to be a middle-of-the-land version of the Twisted Lighthouse.
Queen Ozma the Third

She spent much of her life among the rubies. The suitors for her hand were unable to win the prize and marry into the throne. She demanded the head of the three Nome Dukes before she would wed. When no one was able to accomplish this, she realized that her life was passing quickly by. The rubies kept her young, but she was growing old inside. She did not become queen until she was 69 years old. She married soon after to a war hero Pastoria Locastan and gave birth to a boy three years later. (398 Ozy / 1082 AD)
King Oz the Sixth

One of the youngest crown princes to become king, Oz the Sixth had served bravely across the seas before he was called home to be crowned as king.

King Oz the Seventh

The longest reigning ruler the Emerald Lands have known. He discovered that the power of the Blood of the Land of Oz could be used to halt time. He began construction on the Ruby Palace in the wild lands of the North.
Established the Day of Reckoning ceremony (571 Ozy / 1255 AD) to prove that his rulership was "divinely sanctioned" and that he could live longer than the common man.
After the death of the king and the two crown princes, there came the War of Succession (601-610 Ozy). During this war, seven of the sons and three of the daughters were slain, leaving the youngest son, Markert, to rule as king.

Counselor to the King. Arranged the assassinations of all heirs to the throne so that he could rule when the king died. He and his line had red hair.
Queen Ozma the Fourth
Ozmatine Cornn-Olyvander, Empress of the Sandy Isles, also known as Ozmatine Lazarus.

The Ballad of Ozmatine Lazarus was written about her. She was driven out by her friend, exiled, and left for dead. She found a home in a far land and became a queen. She returned when the time was right to save her people.
King Oz the Ninth

Vakus begins the systematic purge of those with red hair from his court and kingdom. The pretender king had red hair, and a tenuous right to the throne. This king did not want to risk losing his power to another thief. He is very distrustful. He died on the throne, without telling all of the secrets of the kings to his son. He wanted his daughter to reign and retain power. (725 Ozy)
King Oz the Tenth--the Braided Rulers

There was a bitter rivalry between King Oz the Tenth (Arturo) and his sister, Anathozma. Their father wanted the sister to rule. She was far more devious and ruthless than her brother.
The braided rulers. Jointly ruling, light and dark. Then the king died without an heir. The sister's child was placed on the throne.
Silent Days in Oz as a deadly sweating sickness nearly destroys the land.
King Oz the Eleventh

A migration of new settlers (78 persons) were brought into Oz by the Faeries. This was the Gilly clan. The Munch clan originally took them in and protected them. (795 Ozy)
Soon, the Gillys had expanded beyond the reach of the Munchs and held great power in society. The Gillikins spread across the Eastern lands. They were still new in Oz, and had not forgotten how to dream. Their dreams changed the land wherever they lived. The Witches and Keepers of Knowledge did not like the changes, nor did they respect the threat to their power. They began the persecution and separation of the Gillikins from the Munchkins.

King Oz the Twelvth

His love for entertaining was detrimental to his ability to rule. His perceived weakness allowed the Witches to gain the hearts of part of the people. He was implicated in treachery against an ally, which turned the people against the throne.
Courtship of Fayna Ozcaria Luneska (Ozma the Fifth) by Garren Kronkob, the Red Sorcerer. Ended when his rival, Johari Vincenzio Munchabrac, made an offer that the rulers of the Emerald Lands could not refuse. Joining some of the lands of the East to the Emerald Lands through this marriage was the offer. It was a political alliance through marriage that would enable the Emerald rulers to strengthen their hold on the plains and build strength out into the forests. (858 Ozy)
Marriage of Ozma the Fifth to Johari Vincenzio Munchabrac.
With the influx of new settlers in the East, this would prove to be a foolhardy plan. The settlers moved beyond the eastern fields into the forests and into the plains. They became part of the Emerald kingdom. (860 Ozy)

Second Witch Wars (871 – 895 Ozy)
Joined forces with the Red Sorcerer to battle the witches in the Second Witch War. Gave the Ruby Palace to the Red Sorcerer.
Gillikins fight in forest. Forest burns. (872 Ozy)
Exile of Oz the Twelvth by Witches (876 Ozy).
Queen of Dreams brings through a dreamer in the North for the Red Sorcerer. Marriage of Red Sorcerer and unnamed dreamer later that same year. (878 Ozy)
Destruction of Gilly city of Rokkamoorah. City falls into the Deadly Desert. (880 Ozy)
Gilly-kin Purge by Munch-kin.

Ozma the Fifth gives the North as a place of refuge to the Gillikins, under the rulership of the Red Sorcerer. (893 Ozy)
Transported the Boneyard of the Clouds from the Garden of the Rising Sun, in the West, to Grimmpill Graveyard. This is preparation for moving the Time Tree from the Valley of Time to the garden. The Boneyard of the Clouds prepared the garden to grow the Time Tree.
King Ombrosius of the Winkies drove out the Queen of Dreams from his land. Rainbow cloud and battles. Planting of the Time Tree. Recovery of the Crown of Night from the Witches.

King Oz the Fourteenth, The Pious

Oz the Fourteenth purified himself for several years before he felt worthy to take upon himself the crown. During this time, a council met and made decisions over the affairs of the kingdom. Oz the Fourteenth is often called Pious or Sanctified. He cut through the deceptions of the Witches like a light through the darkness. He brought to light the wicked things and ruled with a Silver Lantern in his hand. Nothing would be hidden from his eyes.
King Oz the Fifteenth

He ruled over the Emerald Lands for a very short time. His reign was marked with wars between the South and the Emerald Lands. The West sided with the South. The East kept to itself and amassed power.
Oz the Fifteenth was plagued with illness. He was in frail health for most of his life. Consequently, he chose a very healthy, robust maid as his wife, so that his children would be healthy. The illness was from a curse placed on his house. The poisoned ruby scepter in his hand was a gift. It was created with cursed, energy-sapping sapphires.
