The Calico Cat

‘Good. Because happy or sad, I’d like to be with you on the way there. I mean, everyone needs to know what happens at the end of a good story, don’t they?’
The ocean is shushing louder but I need to be heard. ‘Okay. I’ll let you come with me and we’ll see what happens. And I agree… this story is so far, so good.’
A bully of a wind turns up and kicks sand in our faces. It’s time we went anyway; the tide is almost in and I can’t feel the end of my nose. Caleb slips his arm around me as we walk up the beach and his body feels warm and strong against mine. In my imagination, a picture is forming of a bird’s-eye view of us walking like this towards a hopeful future. I think I’ll paint it tomorrow.
The End
