Lacey's Night of Sinn
Page 8
It was intoxicating. Intoxicating having him at her fingertips, all of his attention. Time didn’t seem to have any meaning for them. Yet there it sat, threatening to bring about the time when their affair would come to an end.
She saw underneath the leather and layers of darkness, danger, play, and intrigue. She saw a man flawed in so many ways. She could tell this man's existence was shrouded in darkness. He was used to shielding himself, putting up a wall. But he had slipped tonight.
She saw.
She saw the way he looked at her. She saw what the Devil truly desired, but she knew enough about Devlin Sinn to know he'd never be able to do what it would take to have what he truly desired, not from her anyway.
Despite her behavior that evening, she wanted love in all its heart-wrenching glory. She wanted the ups and downs, the deeply felt vows, the euphoric honeymoon and mostly the companionship, the journey. She was unwaveringly certain that she would never be able to find that with someone like Devlin Sinn. And that was okay.
She remembered his tenderness. She wondered if he even knew he had made love to her that night on several occasions.
She shook the thought and focused her attention on opening her heavy-lidded eyes.
Her breath caught when she looked over at the man, who was sleeping in complete peace. His lids were closed, with the arm that wasn’t wrapped around her bent near his face. His chest rose and fell steadily. The blankets were tossed so that one strong leg was exposed while his other and his sex were underneath the blanket, barely.
She gazed up the fine plains of his body, noticing the dark hair on his torso starting at the edge of the blankets then tracing a thin line up his abdomen until it spilled hair out onto his strong chest.
He was beautiful, if a man like him could be called such.
Tempted to rouse him only because she could, she resisted the urge, instead letting the exhaustion settle back on her.
She rested her head back in the nook between his shoulder and chest and let the consistent pounding of his heart lull her back into a groggy state of semi-consciousness.
There were few things that Lacey Diaz would allow to be variables in her life. She had a vision for herself. A vision that had begun long before this fiendish hellraiser had crashed like a crane into a brick wall, into the sturdy confines of her life. A vision and a plan that she was excited about. One that was familiar and linear and predictable. Even if this man was right for her, which was so far off from the truth that it was devastating, but she was just being hypothetical.
But even if he was, she knew she couldn't wait around on Devlin Sinn to find his heart.
