  God’s Kingdom Refers the First Dominion prior to the Reconciliation.

  God’s Nowhere Charlie Estabrook’s nickname for the First Dominion.

  Goetic Kicaranki Nuns Religious order of nuns in the Third Dominion particularly despised in Mai’ke. Their shaved, mud-plastered heads and voluminous robes make them easily recognizable. The Kicaranki have a strange custom of covering their mouths with both hands cupped while speaking, producing their trademark, hollowed voices.

  Goya Francisco José de Goya (1746–1828); Spanish artist whose works depicted the social and political turmoil of his time. Gentle had forged, and sold, a piece by Goya.

  Graveolents The Third Dominion’s answer to the common rodent. Gentle and Pie ‘oh’ pah witnessed these rat-like creatures building their nests between the railroad tracks near Mai-ké.

  Great Work, The See Reconciliation.

  Hairstone Banty Mai-ké’s resident informant, gossip monger, and misaligned psychic.

  Hakaridek The Second Dominion’s largest city outside of Yzordderrex, though less than one tenth the latter’s size. Hakaridek is known for its unrivaled seafood markets and its backstreet armories.

  Hapexamendios The major God of the Imajica. History tells that Hapexamendios traveled across the Dominions, from the Fourth to the First, purging the Imajica of his rival deities and their followers. He built his city within the First Dominion and secluded himself behind the dense wall of fog between the First and Second Dominion known as the Erasure. He is the father of Gentle, and if historians are accurate, the father of Christos. Also known as the Unbeheld, the Aboriginal, and the Father of the Imajica.

  Happi Third Dominion hamlet known for its English Tudor–styled architecture. The town was founded by a rare immigrant from the Fifth whose sketches of his homeland had inspired local builders.

  GLYPH

  Hebbert Nuits St. Georges Peccable Oscar Godolphin’s business associate in Yzordderrex and father of Hoi-Polloi Peccable. Peccable, as he is usually referred to, deals in exotic artifacts from across the Dominions, but specializes in selling Fifth Dominion items in the Second.

  Henry Holland The architect of Thomas Roxborough’s original house. A brilliant architect and noted public figure in his day, though his addiction to absinthe eventually cost him his notoriety.

  Heratae Hammeryock A beloved Maestro from the Fourth Dominion who lost his life during Maestro Sartori’s first attempt at reconciliation. The Hammeryock name continues to be synonymous with power in the Fourth Dominion.

  Heratea Species commonly seen on the streets of Yzordderrex whose ancestors shared a common branch with the Beatrixians in the Third Dominion. Heratea have a reputation for being exceptionally shrewd businessmen.

  Hezoir University city in the Second Dominion reduced to rubble by the Autarch’s army. It is rumored that the brains of its students were literally scooped out of their skulls and heaped up in the streets.

  High Pass of Jokalaylau A treacherous path through the snowy peaks of the Jokalaylau mountain range. The High Pass winds from the foothills in Beatrix to the borders of the Third Dominion.

  Hills of the Conscious Cloud Tranquil region of the Third Dominion where Oscar Godolphin hoped to retire and raise parrots. A sect of scholarly monks inhabit the peaks of the region’s twin mountains, giving the area its name.

  Hittahitte Yzordderrexian Kesparate heavily damaged by riots. The Hittahitte lies between the gates of the Eurhetemec Kesparate and Yzordderrex’s bureaucratic district.

  Hoi-Polloi Peccable Hebbert Peccable’s cross-eyed and naïve daughter who assisted her father’s booming import trade business. Hoi-Polloi accompanies Judith on her journey to meet the Sisters of the Delta in Yzordderrex.

  Hoopreo Means anything from “exotic stranger” to “repugnant leper,” depending on the facial expression of the speaker.

  Horace Tyrwhitt One of Maestro Sartori’s patrons and a founding member of the Tabula Rasa. Tyrwhitt’s gastronomic obsessions ensured that the house at #28 Gamut Street was always well stocked with provisions.

  Horsebone Game popular among the Maison de Santé’s inmates, though the rules often varied from cell to cell.

  Hubert Shales One the Tabula Rasa’s most paranoid and vocal members. Hubert takes his appointment to the Society extremely seriously and is vehement in his hatred of all things metaphysical. Also known as the Sloth.

  Huzzah Aping The ten-year-old daughter of Aping who lived with her father in the Maison de Santé. Huzzah could hear the Cradle Lady through the thick walls of the asylum. She later accompanied Gentle and Pie ‘oh’ pah into Yzordderrex.

  Huzzah Odell The daughter of Judith Odell and the Autarch Sartori. Born in the shadow of the Goddesses, Huzzah is a child prodigy touched by divinity. By chance or design, baby Huzzah helped Gentle bring the cleansing waters of the Second Dominion into the decaying landscape of the First.

  Hyo Minor, often overlooked deity associated with male fertility. Hyo is believed in many cultures to be a distant relation to the Unbeheld. Hyo is always depicted in religious iconography sporting an anatomically improbable phallus.

  Iahmandhas Third Dominion city in the northeast where Oscar Godolphin purchased his Boston Bowl. Iahmandhas is a famous spice trading port, and its aroma can be detected miles away from the city.

  Imajica A term referring to all of the Dominions collectively.

  In Ovo The wastelands between the Fifth Dominion and the Reconciled Dominions. The In Ovo is home to an astonishing assortment of lost and deadly creatures. One must pass through this nightmare when crossing from or to the Fifth Dominion.

  Ipse A theater designed by the great Pluthero Quexos himself, located in the Deliquium Kesparate in Yzordderrex. Its open design has inspired theatres across the Dominions.

  IN OVO

  Irish One of Gentle’s homeless allies found at the South Bank. A haggard soul who’s quick to align with whomever seems to pose a threat to him.

  Isaac Abelove A lawyer who fancied himself somewhat of a thaumaturge, though his skills in both fields were reportedly overrated. He was a patron to both Joshua Godolphin and, later, the great Maestro Sartori. The Autarch Sartori had a brief encounter with Abelove and named an oviate he later summoned after him.

  Izaak Inmate at the Maison de Santé and friend of Father Athanasius. Izaak’s actual prison sentence ended on paper several years ago, but Vigor N’ashap chose to keep that bit of information from him.

  Jassick City in the Third Dominion where Oscar Godolphin acquired the seventh volume of Gaud Maybelome’s Encyclopedia of Heavenly Signs. Jassick’s jumbled boutiques and flea markets rival any Dominion’s grandest bazaars.

  Jepas A tiny schooling fish that swarms the coasts near Yzordderrex. Considered to be a great delicacy, though it takes many hundred to make a single meal.

  John Furie Zacharias See Gentle.

  John the Divine See Gentle.

  Jokalaylau The Goddess of the High Snows whose followers were trapped in ice or slaughtered by Hapexamendios and his agents. Along with Tishallulé and Uma Umagammagi, Jokalaylau is one of the three Sisters of the Delta. Jokalaylau reigns from the Fourth Dominion, and the highest mountain range in that land is called the Jokalaylau in her honor.

  Joseph Bellamy See Gentle.

  Joshua Godolphin The Earl of Bellingham and founder of the Tabula Rasa. Prior to the failed Reconciliation, Godolphin had been one of Maestro Sartori’s patrons and greatest financial contributors.

  Jubilee Line A branch of the London Underground train network.

  Jude See Judith Odell.

  Judith Odell A perfect copy of the original Judith (see Quasoir) created by the Maestro Sartori to love Joshua Godolphin and his descendants until the end of the line. She is the mother of Huzzah Odell and, if the Sisters of the Delta are correct, may one day be among the Goddesses. Her role in the mythology of the Imajica is pivotal.

  Kenny Soames One of Chester Klein’s professional forgers specializing in more contemporary, modern artists. Soames is a shady character with questionable morals and an even more questionable past.

  Kesparates Individual city-states that collectively compose the city of Yzordderrex. Each Kesparate is rich with its own culture, history, and ethnicity. Inhabitants of Yzordderrex rarely claim that city as their home. Instead, they cling to the heritage of their native Kesparate as though it were a separate entity entirely.

  Kipper Canine friend of Albert Burke.

  Kloupo A pungent and potent liquor made from the sap of a swamp flower indigenous to the Third Dominion. The areas bordering the swamps all claim ownership of the liquor’s heritage and each concocts its own unique version of it.

  Koppocovi’s Rialto A massive auditorium in the Second Dominion built in honor of playwright Gemar Koppocovi. Many families sought shelter in the Rialto during the riots in Yzordderrex.

  Kreauchee An addictive herbal narcotic with severe and unpredictable side effects for those unused to it. Users experience periods of lethargy alternated with bouts of priapism and psychotic hallucinations. The Autarch has been known to keep his unfair share of the plant, and his addiction supports a good number of traffickers.

  Kuthuss One of a half-dozen goat herders Gentle and Pie ‘oh’ pah encounter on their trek up the High Pass. The herders have fine, purple hair that suspiciously resembles the coats of their flock.

  Kwem Original location of the Pivot until the Autarch moved it to Yzordderrex nearly two centuries ago. The Autarch built a “small” palace there overlooking the crater that marks the Pivot’s original position. Kwem is located in the center of the Third Dominion.

  Kwem Palace The Autarch’s second palace overlooking the original location of the Pivot. Designed to be the Autarch’s vacation home, the Kwem Palace stands taller than any other engineered structure in the Third Dominion.

  Land’s End A peninsula of southwest England on the coast of Cornwall. It is the westernmost point of the country.

  Larumday Splendid The matriarch of the Splendid household, Larumday had prophetic dreams of Gentle visiting her in Beatrix.

  Lazarus In Christian lore, Lazarus was the brother of Mary and Martha whom Jesus raised from the dead.

  Lenten Way The largest, most trafficked highway in the reconciled Dominions, the Lenten Way runs from the Third Dominion to the heart of Yzordderrex in the Second. It is roughly the length of the Americas.

  Lewis Leader Charlie Estabrook’s lawyer.

  L’Himby A Katmandu-style city of temples, pilgrims, and free dope at the heart of the Third Dominion. L’Himby is a hotbed of free, radical, and often revolutionary thought. Natives of L’Himby are easily recognized by clusters of small crystalline growths on their flesh.

  Liberatore A term affectionately given to Gentle by Little Ease for being his liberator.

  Lickerish Street Dissecting the third richest Kesparate in Yzordderrex, Lickerish Street is famous for its bordellos and bars. Much like the Fifth’s Reeperbahn in Hamburg, one can find all walks of life looking for all types of release.

  Lionel Wakeman The Tabula Rasa’s financier who, in addition to being an active member of the society, must insure the organization’s fiscal well- being. The Tabula Rasa is rumored to hold investments in all of London’s major financial institutions.

  Little Ease An apish, cherubic oviate summoned by the Autarch Sartori to keep Gentle trapped by his own memories in his house on Gamut Street. Little Ease has the ability to draw out one’s memories, making them appear real.

  Loitus Hammeryock An official and town councilman in the city of Vanaeph. Though he holds little clout, the name Hammeryock has been synonymous with power for the last two centuries.

  Lord Godolphin See Joshua Godolphin.

  Lotti Yap A former prisoner of the Bastion of the Banu set free during the riots in Yzordderrex. Lotti aids Judith in her journey to meet the Sisters of the Delta.

  Lu ‘chur’ Chem One of only a few surviving purebred Eurhetemecs left in the Second Dominion. Lu ‘chur’ Chem was sent with Pie ‘oh’ pah to assassinate the Autarch.

  Lucius Cobbitt The Maestro Sartori’s youngest and most adept pupil during the Maestro’s first attempt at Reconciliation. Ever the loyal student, Lucius followed his Maestro’s instructions to the letter. See also Chicka Jackeen.

  Luis A business associate of Chester Klein with an almost addictive love of art, originals or forgeries.

  Mad Lord See Joshua Godolphin.

  Madonna Refers to the Virgin Mary as well as other female icons in the Goddess religions throughout the Imajica.

  Maestro The highest order of magician or swayworker, Maestros are feared and revered across the Dominions. The Maestros are responsible for performing the Reconciliation from within the safety of the Ana. Though Maestros rarely hold political office, their influence on their respective societies cannot be ignored.

  Maida Vale Oscar Godolphin’s pied-à-terre, or secondary home.

  Mai-ké A train station town set in the middle of nowhere in the Fourth Dominion. Aside from a handful of stubborn farmers, everyone in Mai-ké is on their way out of Mai-ké.

  Maison de Santé An insane asylum turned prison set in the middle of the Cradle of Chzercemit in the Third Dominion. Its inhabitants range from the criminally insane to the socially misaligned.

  LITTLE EASE

  Malbaker’s Numbubo A play by Senan Malbaker, a contemporary of Pluthero Quexos. The Numbubo has been compared to Goethe’s Faust and is often performed at the Ipse.

  Man of Sorrows Quasoir believes that Father Athanasius is Christos, the Man of Sorrows.

  Mansion of the Nexus See Ana.

  Marlin Judith’s American boyfriend, a successful Manhattan lawyer.

  Martine Middle-aged banker’s wife and Gentle’s mistress during his time with Vanessa.

  Mattalaus Yzordderrexian general responsible for coordinating the actions of the Autarch’s armed forces across the Dominions. While General Racidio is the mastermind behind the Yzordderrexian military’s strategy, Mattalaus is responsible for flexing the military muscle.

  Matthias McGann The acting leader of the current version of the Tabula Rasa, though he holds little authority over the other members.

  Maurice Charlie Estabrook’s nurse during his stay at a private clinic in Hampstead.

  Meditation Room The upstairs room at #28 Gamut Street where Gentle both prepared for and performed the Reconciliation.

  Merrow Ti Ti A fictional tourist attraction believed to be in the Fourth Dominion near Patashoqua. Its reputation for being one of the greatest sights in the Imajica is so widely spread that travelers come from every corner to see it . . . whatever it is. It’s somewhat of an inside joke to the inhabitants of the Fourth Dominion.

  Michael Morrison See Gentle.

  Midsummer Fair Festivities held annually at Hampstead Heath to celebrate the Summer Solstice.

  Midsummer Night Celebrated throughout many parts of the Fifth Dominion in commemoration of the Summer Solstice, on or around June 21st. It’s also the anniversary of Maestro Sartori’s first attempt at Reconciliation.

  Mites Particularly nasty companions of Kuttner Dowd that reside inside their master’s mouth. At Dowd’s command, the mites can completely obliterate a living target, undoing the very fabric of the victim’s existence.

  Modigliani Amedeo Modigliani (1884–1920); Italian painter and sculptor, as well as the subject of Chester Klein’s forgeries.

  Monday One of Gentle’s disciples from the South Bank. His artist’s tin of colors helped Gentle regain his memory. Monday also accompanied Gentle on his journey across the newly Reconciled Dominions, helping his mentor complete his map of the Imajica.

  Monica A young Fifth Dominion girl unfortunate enough to meet the Autarch Sartori at the Midsummer’s Fair. The Autarch sacrificed Monica to summon his Gek-a-gek from the In Ovo.

r Imajica See Uma Umagammagi.

  Mount of Lipper Bayak Believed to be the spot where Hapexamendios rested as he made his way from the Fifth Dominion into the Fourth. It is also the point where Pie ‘oh’ pah and Gentle entered the Fourth Dominion. Tick Raw performed his part of the Reconciliation seated atop the Mount of Lipper Bayak.

  Mrs. Erskine Kindly woman who occupied the flat under Gentle’s studio.

  Mystif An increasingly rare breed of Eurhetemec with extraordinary shape- shifting abilities. A mystif, such as Pie ‘oh’ pah can appear either male or female, its shape shifting to meet the expectations or desire of its admirer.

  Nathanial Godolphin Joshua Godolphin’s son who took his father’s seat as head of the Tabula Rasa after Joshua’s passing.
