Immortal Enemies

It was like music to my fucking ears.
I gave her what she wanted. I started going faster, until I was pumping into her wildly, barely hanging on by a thread. Making sure to grind down so that I was rubbing against her clit every time I surged into her.
Liv started to tighten around me again, and I pulled back from our kiss to growl at her. “Come now, Liv. Come all over my cock, baby.”
Unable to hold myself back anymore, I sank my fangs into the side of her neck, drinking from her deeply. The second my teeth pierced her skin, Liv bucked against me and started to orgasm again. And because her blood was now flowing into me, and we were connecting on the level that only mates did, I felt her climax washing over me.
It was like getting hit with a tsunami of sensation. An awareness unlike anything anyone could ever try to describe. To feel her pleasure as I both bit and thrust inside her sent me over my own orgasmic edge. I let myself release inside of her; unlike I had done with anyone else.
A distant part of me hoped that release reached her womb and took hold.
If it didn’t, I would just keep fucking her until it did.
I was ready for a little half Norn, half vampire. A being, like Liv, unique to this world and totally mine.
Pulling my fangs from her neck, I licked the punctures so they would close, and then roared as the rest of my release left me in small spurts. I shoved it all inside of her, ready to start that family I had always wanted with her. I pulsed inside her until I was spent.
Panting, I dropped my forehead to hers, then fell to my side, taking her with me, cuddling her in my arms.
“I love you, Liv Nornsdottir.”
“And I love you, Arne Eriksson… but I have one little problem.”
Startled, I pulled back and looked at her questioningly.
She gave me her saucy grin in return and said, “Can you tell me how to treat rug burn? Because I’m pretty sure I’ve got it all over my ass now.”
Epilogue
The next day found me sitting on some chick named Fauna’s private plane headed to New Orleans.
Apparently, she was a friend of my mate’s and she had come with Liv to Kentucky for emotional support. By the evil eye she gave me, I wasn’t sure if we were going to get along.
Ignoring her obvious dislike, I pulled out my cell phone. “If we’re going to meet this Thea bitch to exchange the ring of Ra for your mirror, I want to call an acquaintance I have down there for some extra muscle.
At the word ‘muscle,’ Fauna’s eyes became devious and more than a little interested.
“Do tell us more, Old and Crusty One.”
Rolling my eyes, I ignored the insult. She had been flinging all kinds of verbal barbs at me since the moment I had stepped on the plane. “The kind that will protect us if we need him to.”
The sassy brunette cocked an eyebrow and talked to me slowly as if she thought I was two instead of one thousand, one hundred and forty. “And does your friend have a name?”
Pressing the send button on my cell phone, I brought it to my ear as it started to ring. Just like before, on the third ring, the other man picked up the phone.
“Graves.”

A Taste of Vampire Mates
Present Day
Tower of London, England
Julia jerked awake, reeling from the dream she knew too well. Swinging her legs to the side of her bed, she sat up, seeking to calm herself. Were she mortal, her heart would have raced with the fear. However, her vampiric organ remained still as she moved a hand to her chest, pressing her palm over fr
igid skin covering a heart born dead.
A knock prompted her to straighten. Tucking back an unruly lock of golden hair, she called, “Come in.”
The door opened and a tall man entered. “Forgive the intrusion,” the leader of the Turrim Londoniarum Vampire Clan spoke apologetically.
“Not at all. Is something amiss, Nicholas?”
“I’m uncertain,” he answered. “A rider came to the tower gates. He said I was to bring you this immediately.”
Extending an arm, Nicholas turned his hand palm-side-up and offered a rolled parchment, tied with a red ribbon. Grasping the offered message, Julia reached for a light switch beside her nightstand, illuminating a yellow bulb hidden in a white-shaded lamp. Raising the parchment, she glanced at the seal, the letters ES surrounded by ridged waves.
Recognizing her family’s crest, she confirmed Nicholas’ assumption with a nod. “The message is from Eilean Skye.”
“I suspected.”
Using a long nail to peel away the wax circlet, Julia untied the scroll’s ribbon, tossing the red strand aside before unrolling the coiled paper. Eyes scanning the document, she took note of the formal address before her eyes skipped to the bottom of the page, where her father’s elegant signature stood prominently.
“I’ve been summoned,” she spoke aloud for Nicholas’ benefit.
“To Skye?”
Julie nodded, passing him the scroll.
“This doesn’t give a reason.”
“Doesn’t have to,” she answered. “When Skye calls, all must answer.”
The two exchanged a glance.
Nicholas guessed, “Do you think this has to do with Caleb?”
“Undoubtedly.”
“Would you like for me to accompany you, Julia? I can give a first-hand account of the evils Caleb committed. Facing him was no doubt difficult for you, and killing him…I can’t begin to imagine. But I can, perhaps, help you with this…” He lifted the scroll, suggesting the investigation she faced.
“Caleb Black was evil,” Julia confirmed. “He committed horrendous tortures upon humans and vampires alike. However, you also realize not all ancient vampires view mortality in the same manner as you and me. Many, if not most, pure-blood families believe once a human is transformed they are the property of their maker. What Caleb did to those he turned, based on ancient laws, was perfectly acceptable, if not expected.
“While I killed Caleb with the council’s blessing, my father’s voice was not among those who granted approval. To have committed the act myself, without his permission, will not be viewed kindly.”
“Perhaps you shouldn’t go,” Nicholas said, concern evident his voice. “You are more than welcome to stay here in London. In fact, the Turrim Londoniarum would be grateful for your continued residence, especially after all the help you have provided in protecting one of our own.”
Julia gave the clan leader a soft smile. “Thank you, Nicholas, truly. However, as I said before, no vampire has a choice in answering a summons from Skye. Especially not a member of the bloodline. Father won’t be happy about what has transpired. I dealt with Caleb under council approval, but failed to specifically request his consent. Further, the Black family cannot be pleased about the death of their son and, as you are aware, the Blacks wield as much power in France as my family does in Scotland, our equals in ancestry. It is reasonable that I must make a full report, and learn what damage is a result of my actions.”
Nicholas surprised her by asking, “Was it arranged?”
“Arranged?”
“Your marriage to Black? I had presumed he’d been your destined mate, but…”
“No,” she shook her head, “our union was an alliance between ancient houses.”
Nicholas stepped closer to Julia’s bedside, the movement causing her to catch his intense stare. “I think there was more than a simple arrangement.”
“Once,” she answered softly. “I did love him. But even that love was complex in its nature. Forced.”
“Forced?”
She did not answer the implied question, instead turning her gaze to a far wall.
“What happened that bound you to him?”
“Bound would be an accurate term.”
“He was your mate, was he not?”
Julia’s pained expression delivered the answer.
“He was not…”
“The destined mate every vampire is meant to find? The one who holds the power to make a vampiric heart beat?” She turned back to meet his gaze. “You’ve held me in your arms, Nicholas. Has my heart ever beat against your chest?”
“I…”
“My heart was born dead. It has never known love’s beat…save once.”
