Finding Her Wings

I turn and fling my arms around him and kiss him like there is no tomorrow. “I love you Orrin, now can we please run to your house? I might be out of breath and sweaty when I get there, but that was the absolute sweetest, most romantic thing ever said to me, and I want to show you how much it means to me.”
He holds me out at arm’s length and asks, “What do you mean, show me?”
I blush, “Um, sir? I was very naughty and didn’t wait for you. Will you punish me?” I watch as his eyes dilate, and he licks his lips.
“Only if you run as fast as you can to the house.”
Epilogue
WARREN WAS VERY SPECIFIC in his instructions. I was to sit on the swing on the Armarillia Cape, facing the Fairy Tree. Orrin must have been in on the surprise, too, because he told me that if I dared to look back towards the glade he would get a switch and turn my bottom redder than he had ever turned it before. Warren had overheard his comment and had said that he might even help. I had choked on the juice I was drinking over that comment, not expecting my straight-laced Warren to say something so shocking.
“How long do I have to sit here?” I moan.
Bray just laughs at me. “It has been a year since you all went on that quest. The guys have been working on this surprise almost that long. You can wait a little longer while they get everything set up perfectly.”
I look at her and pout. “You know what the surprise is, don’t you?”
“Yup, and I have been sworn to secrecy. Apparently, Orrin had a long talk with Mitah and if I breathe a word of the secret, or if I let you off this swing before they are ready, then Mitah will paddle my behind before he does something else that he didn’t elaborate on.”
I giggle at her obvious curiosity and innocence. If I know Orrin, it is best that I let Mitah introduce her to the pleasures of being submissive in the bedroom. Suddenly, I groan and clutch my distended stomach.
“What? What’s wrong?” Bray asks, jumping up frantically.
“Nothing, just a cramp. It’s gone now.” I rub the side of my stomach. I don’t want to ruin the surprise my men have, but I am afraid I might have a surprise of my own coming. “Nip?”
“Yes, Lin?” He jumps up from the other side of the mushroom where he had been relaxing.
“Would you run down and tell Puck that I think it might be time to get Nanny? Do not tell Orrin or Warren. Or better yet, why don’t you just go get Nanny?”
“Uh-uh. No way. I will just go tell all three of your men that you need Nanny.” And he flitters away as fast as he can.
“Whimpy ass, ass-loving fairy! If I wasn’t the size of an eggplant I would kick his tiny ass to next Tuesday.”
“Little Fairy, iss that anyway to talk about your friendss?”
I yelp as Lithius appears out of thin air before me, settling on the ground. Bray screams and jumps in the air flying for the glade, which sets Lithius to chortling.
“Hello, Lithius. And it isn’t nice to scare my friends. Nip is going to get me into trouble with Orrin, Puck, and Warren.”
Lithius tilts his head, “How sso?”
“I am supposed to sit here and wait for them to come and get me for a surprise. But it seems the little one here wants to be the su-oooooooh–” I groan as a stronger pain grips my abdomen.
“I ssee. Well, that is why I am here. Asss ssmart asss the fairiess are, they have never delivered a baby before. I brought you help.” A small Brownie jumped off Lithius’ back.
“Hi, Aislin. I am Thea and will help bring this little one into the world, if that is okay with you?”
I nod as the pain ebbs. “Yes, I would love the help.”
HOURS LATER I LAY IN bed with four little bundles, three boys and a girl, curled around me, each with gossamer wings on their backs. Lithius peeks his head into my room through the large doors.
“I left you with a gift for saving me, that of being the first fairy to be able to have a child. I never expected you to have four little ones. One day, I will fly with you all in the sky. Until then live each day in love.”
“Thank you, Lithius. Thank you, Thea”. Lithius nods his head and Thea waves from his back and then they are gone in a shimmer of light.
“KNOCK, KNOCK!” WARREN calls, standing on the patio outside my room. I look up at him and smile. I pop Chryses off the breast and lay her down on the bed.
“Hey!
“We weren’t able to give you’re surprise earlier, so we thought we would give it to you now, if that’s okay?”
“Yes, please!” I almost clap my hands in excitement and then realize that if I do that I will have four screaming babies on hand.
“First, we have Orrin with gift number one.” Warren announces. Orrin walks in carrying a cradle and places it beside the bed. He comes over and kisses me and leaves the room.
“We only expected one baby, so we will be getting three more cradles before nightfall, since you are such an overachiever.” I giggle at the comment.
“Second, we have Puck with gift number two,” Warren continues. Puck comes in pushing a cart filled with blankets and diapers and small clothes; He sets them against the wall, then walks over, gives me a kiss, and leaves the room.
“Third, we have a gift that I started, but took all of us working together to finish.” Warren steps back out of view and then the three of them push an odd contraption into view.
“What is it?” I ask.
“A whirrlybike,” Warren replies. “When I was held captive by Loretta, I saw a human book with similar pictures. It didn’t say if they ever got the bikes to fly, but they did make big rooms fly with wings and these things called motors. I think, once you’re healed from delivery, with your air magic, you can fly with this, and no one will be the wiser.” The excitement in his voice is almost contagious.
“How does it work?” I ask, intrigued at the idea of actually flying.
“You sit in the chair and use your feet to move the pedals, which move the wheels. When the wheels move they makes the bar, here, turn which makes these blades move and lift the bike, just like the helicopter seeds from the maple trees. There’s a bit more to it, but that’s the gist of it.”
“”Oh, I can’t wait to try it out! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!”
