“We will talk about how we will capture these Insurgents and where we can find the resources to fight them.” Major Fulton said and turned to leave the room.
“Are you dismissing me?” Governor Higgins said outraged.
“Indeed I am. I must talk to the President. I don’t want to keep him waiting.” Major Fulton turned off the camera and left the room.
As the sun came up across the country people woke up and started getting ready for their day. Most turned on the television. There were, of course, a variety of programs to choose from. Some chose to watch the news, while others decided on shows to take their minds off of what was happening in the world. For most this was the routine they went through in the morning. This day, however, was different.
“This a message from the emergency broadcast station.” The televisions across the country said.
Many people stopped what they were doing to watch. The emergency system never goes off unless there was a storm but the skies seemed clear. So people gathered their families around the television to see the announcement.
“My Fellow Americans,” The voice said.
Most found it familiar but knew that it wasn’t the voice of President Marshal.
“This is Former Senator Samuel H. Powell. I was the Senator from Oregon. I served many years in the United States Senate. My years of serving the people of my state, along with doing what was best for every state in this great country was cut short. We lost our government. Not to the foreign powers that we feared and were always warned about, but from within. Our own President has taken control against our constitution. A document which had been the guide for our country for almost two hundred and seventy years. We withstood World Wars and the war against the Islamic United Territories. We survived, but we have fallen now. President Marshal took away the thing that made our country great. Our Democracy. One that was by the people, for the people. We are no longer a great democracy. We are living in a dictatorship. One in which the leader does not care for the rights of its people. Which is why this morning at zero four hundred. We attacked a military facility that was holding so-called criminals of the United States. Criminals which were not give a fair trial or any trial. They were convicted at the time of arrest. Sent to be tortured until they could not take anymore and were killed. My people attacked this facility.” He paused. “We are the Democratic Insurgence and we will not stand by as we lose our country to tyrants. When a government becomes destructive it is the right, no, the duty of the people to alter or abolish it. Which is why we take credit for this attack. We want the people of the United States to know that we fight for them. We fight for our rights. We fight for our freedom. I am former Senator Samuel Powell. President of the Democratic Insurgence. We are at war with the Government of the United States. President Marshal your time has ended. A new time is beginning.”
