“Let’s not get ahead of ourselves,” Max said with a smirk.

He leaned in and kissed Proxy while Sabrina took off the outfit that was barely covering her. As soon as the brunette was naked, she moved back close and gave Max an opportunity to take turns kissing them.

“The mists have no aphrodisiac effect upon me,” Zigzag said. “But I am no less curious to satisfy your desires.”

Max peeked an eye open as he kissed Sabrina, watching the android fall to her knees before him. Zigzag brushed her hair over the side of her head to give Max a better look as she put her mouth upon him. Zigzag’s mouth sealing around his shaft made his knees buckle hard enough for Proxy and Sabrina to have to hold him up.

“That’s it,” Proxy said. “Let’s see how we can torture him.”

“Torture?” Max raised an eyebrow. “If this is your form of torture…”

Zigzag rocked her head back and forth with precision. Her tongue slid on the underside of his length, teasing every inch of his taut flesh to the point he was already throbbing and ready to explode. But just when he thought he might lose himself, Zigzag pulled her mouth away.

She crawled back onto the seat and presented herself. “I am eager to see how the mists have affected your desires,” Zigzag said.

Max stepped forward to her. The curves of her body had never looked so appetizing. Her pink slit dripped down the side of her thigh. Max palmed the side of her leg, trailing it up the rest of her body until he was cupping one of her breasts. He moved closer to her and searched for the warmth between her legs with his length. It wasn’t much trouble for him to find her and plunge himself into her completely.

Zigzag’s jaw dropped as a groan escaped her. “The feeling is… always surprising.”

Max gripped her waist as he thumped his hilt against her backside. “Always surprising,” he sighed.

Sabrina tapped the digital panel and more aphrodisiacs sprayed from the ceiling. The brunette moved back to his side while Proxy stood on the other. The two women caressed Max’s arms and chest as he continued to push himself into her.

“Shit… I can’t hold… It’s too strong…” Max grunted in frustration as he pulled out from Zigzag.

The android turned around and leaned back in her seat. “You are withholding your climax,” Zigzag said. “What is the purpose if not to reach your end?”

“Max here wants to have a little more fun,” Proxy said. The blond bit the corner of her bottom lip as she leaned in with another kiss. “What are you gonna do, Max? You wanna give it to me… or Sabrina?”

Proxy’s pixie smirk was hard to turn down, he thought. But on the other hand, Sabrina’s seductive stare was equally as captivating.

“I’ve had you before,” Sabrina said. “But I’ve never… tasted you.”

“How about a toast?” Proxy reached down and gripped Max’s swollen shaft. Her delicate fingers pumped him slowly, kneading his flesh to the point he couldn’t hold on for much longer.

“A toast.” Sabrina fell to her knees. “I can drink to that.” Proxy guided him into her mouth. Sabrina quickly began sucking upon him, drawing out the seed building up inside of him.

Max was at their mercy. One of his hands tangled in Proxy’s hair as he kissed her, the other hand tangling in Sabrina’s brown locks as she bobbed back and forth upon him.

His desire was already pulling everything out of him but Zigzag stood up from her seat to make it even more agonizing for him. She pressed her fit and lean body against him as she kissed his neck. The tender skin of an android was no less enjoyable than the other women in the room.

“Go ahead,” Proxy whispered into his ear. “Give it to her.”

Max looked down at Sabrina as she increased her pace. Eyes wide. Hair flailing in rhythm with her head over her face. The shape of her backside visible underneath her. His body tightened up to the point he could no longer hold back.

He gritted his teeth as a soft grunt escaped him. His knees buckled. His grip tightened on the back of Sabrina’s head as he lost himself. A thick pulse of his seed throbbed onto the brunette’s tongue. His body continued to tremble as he trickled into the warmth of her mouth.

Sabrina’s gulps were loud enough to hear over the soft electronic music playing from the speakers. She swallowed Max down completely until she’d taken every drop. She lavished her tongue around him before drawing her mouth away.

Max sighed a deep breath and immediately tried to recover. Zigzag and Proxy guided him to his seat. It was only now he realized just how exhausted he was. Sweat dripped down his forehead and over the rest of his body. His muscles were tense. His lungs burned and his heart pounded in his chest. But more than anything else, he was satisfied.

“Look at that,” Proxy said. “Already out of energy.”

“I’m not that tired,” he replied.

“I’m your Operator. I always know how much energy you have.”

Proxy took a seat down next to him and rested her head on his shoulder. Zigzag and Sabrina joined him on the other side. Max took a moment to enjoy the serenity of his surroundings but another burst of mist from the air filled his nostrils and flooded his senses.

He raised an eyebrow as his desires began to stir inside of him once again.

“Curious.” Zigzag eyed the thickening shaft between his legs. “It appears the aphrodisiacs in this room are quite potent.”

Max gave a look to Sabrina. She narrowed her eyes, licking some of the remnants of his seed still on her lips.

“Last night in Santa Fe,” Max said. “Go out with a bang, huh?”

“A bang indeed.” Sabrina lowered her head down into his lap.

Max leaned back and closed his eyes. A sigh escaped his lips as the gentle sound of sucking filled his ears, stirring his desire in him once again.

  Chapter 37

“…Police officials have apprehended the leaders of the notorious Disciples. Dubbed colloquially as the Gears of Destruction, Charles Oliver, Myra Vick, Harvey Cole and Jackson Banks all have multiple charges pending, including high-level loot distribution and conspiracy to commit murder. Bond has not been set, as all four individuals have been labeled a transport risk. In addition, officials have arrested several dealers working in association with the group. The district attorney’s office has yet to set a date for their initial hearing…”

A half-smirk came across Max’s face as he watched the news report on the display. “Great news…”

The blond next to him was less than amused as she leaned against the wall.

  “You all right?” Max asked.

“I’m fine,” Proxy sighed. “I was just thinking… We’re heading back to New Austin today.”

“Try not to be too excited.”

“I’m happy. There’s no place like home and all that. It’s just… It was fun seeing you strap your ACE on and step into an arena again. Now I have to go back to the War Zone and deal with all of those guys who don’t know what they’re doing.”

“You know, Proxy, you don’t have to operate for someone you don’t want to.”

“No, I don’t. I guess I just like the challenge.”

“Remind yourself of that when you come back to my place full of frustration.” He playfully nudged her on the arm but all she did was roll her eyes.

“Don’t act like you didn’t enjoy battling again. You’re the best I’ve ever seen, Max. Anybody that good has to enjoy it a little.”

Max thought about it for a moment and shook his head. “I don’t enjoy wielding my ACE. I just like making things right.”

“…I can see that. How about you, Zigzag? You gonna miss Santa Fe?”

They both turned to Zigzag, who was standing calmly and staring at the news on the display above.

“The memories I have of Santa Fe will be like nothing else,” Zigzag said. “Considering everything worked out for the best, I will look back fondly on our time here. It was an experience important in strengthening the bonds between us.”

“You have a way with words,” Proxy giggled.

“I’m ready to return to New Austin when you are. I believe Sabrina is almost ready as well.”

Max looked at all of the booths in the room. Men and women sat on one side while their loved ones sat on the other side of an energy barrier. Armed guards kept a close watch though there was little the inmates could do to bypass the barriers.

He looked at Sabrina. Her head down, she had a smile on her face despite a tear leaking from the corner of her eye. Her throat shifted with a swallow before she turned to Max and nodded.

Max walked over to her as she got up from her seat.

“He wants to talk to you,” she said.

“Of course.” Max took her place while Sabrina walked back over to Zigzag and Proxy.

The man on the other side of the barrier looked just as young as Max was. Brown hair short and disheveled. Skin pale. Eyes sunken in. Some tattoos trailing along his neck and down underneath his collar. He grinned as he looked Max up and down.

  “So… You’re the Rebel.”

“Lex… It’s good to meet you.”

“The pleasure is all mine. I heard about what you did. I got a ton of respect for a man who knows how to use an ACE. I never fought in the war. Spent my whole life hiding from the draft.”

“It was a pointless war. A lot of people died needlessly.”

“ACE battles aren’t war though. It’s pretty bad ass, what you did.”

Max chuckled. “What did your sister tell you?”

“She didn’t mention the battles. A lot of people in prison fought in the Vicious Sanctum. It’s not hard to find out what’s going on out there. Especially when someone like you is tearing the place up… No… Sabrina only told me what kinda man you are. You’re a good man. Someone she’ll be in good hands with.”

“Sabrina’s her own woman. It means a lot to have her by my side.”

Lex shifted his eyes away. From the right angle, he looked just like Sabrina in some ways, Max thought. Lex’s eyes started to glaze over as he shook his head.

“I wish I could do it over,” he said. “I wish I didn’t make the mistakes I did.”

“…If there’s one thing I’ve learned about the regrets in my life, it’s to accept ‘em. You can’t know how things would’ve turned out if you did anything differently. Maybe you had to make a mistake so Sabrina wouldn’t.”

“I guess that’s one way of looking at it. I know it’s a lot to ask… Sabrina might be the strongest woman in the world but she’s still alone. Be there for her. For me. Can you do that, Max?”

Max sighed a deep breath through his nose. His jaw clenched, he gave Lex a nod then got up from his seat.

Sabrina walked over to him, her head down like she couldn’t look him in the eye. “I… I’ve got everything set,” she said. “Just the things I need to make the move to New Austin.”

“You know you don’t have to do this—”

“There’s nothing here for me in Santa Fe. Nothing except for him.”

“Just because you’re moving doesn’t mean you’ll never see him again.”

“Lex knows better than anybody I can’t stay here. I’m… I’m ready to do this, Max.” She leaned forward and wrapped her arms around him. Her head sank into his chest as he held her, his hand patting her gently on the back of her head.

She slowly pulled away, her eyes red and her cheeks flush. “I’m almost done. I just… I wanna talk to him for a bit longer. Please…”

Max nodded. “Take your time. New Austin will always be waiting for us.”

  Chapter 38

The neon lights from the billboard signs illuminated the streets of New Austin. People made their way back and forth as they headed to work. Merchants stood at their stands as they pushed the latest electronics for passers to spend their credits on. Police rolled through the streets on speeders to make sure to keep the peace. But that didn’t stop the punks and thugs from being up to no good in the back alleys.

Max sat in the back of the diner, leaning back in his seat as he sipped on a cup of coffee. The child in front of him hungrily wolfed down a stack of supplemented pancakes covered in butter and synthetic syrup.

“It’s been a few days, Toby. How have you been?”

The child didn’t answer immediately, his attention taken by the holographic bear emitting from the electronic device next to his plate.

“I’m okay,” Toby said. “Did you help your friend in Santa Fe?”

“Yeah… I helped him out. What did I miss?”

  Toby shrugged. “Nothing.”

Max chuckled at his blunt response. “How’s school going? You do all of your homework?”

“I finished it. Mom said if I keep studying I could work on electronics like you. Maybe I can make my own hologram like this.”

“I’ll tell you what. When school is out, you can come to the electronics shop. I can teach you how to put one of these things together. What kinda animal do you want the next one to be? How about a lion? Or a whale?”

“How about something from Mars? Like a Mars animal.”

Max laughed again. “I don’t think there are any animals on Mars. Not that we’ve discovered anyway…”

  “Oh…” Toby sighed in disappointment.

“But that doesn’t mean you can’t make it. You can make anything you want. You just have to come up with it. But you have to promise to do well in school, okay?”

“Okay…” Toby stabbed at his pancakes with his fork and stuffed them into his mouth. His attention back on his HoloProjector, Toby quickly forgot Max was sitting in front of him.

A middle-aged woman walked up to the table and refilled Max’s cup of coffee. “How’s Toby treating you?” she asked.

“Better than anybody in Santa Fe treated me. I missed him.”

“He missed you, too. Did you get things all squared away out there?”

Max knew Denise as long as anybody else in New Austin. The older woman’s comforting smile reminded him that he was back where he was supposed to be.

“Everything’s fine, Denise. You know you don’t have to worry about me.”

“I know I don’t. But a sudden trip to Santa Fe isn’t something that usually happens. And I know you’re not the type to go on vacation.”

“I had business to take care of. But it’s taken care of. I’m… I’m back here.”

“I’m glad. Better get back to work before my boss yells at me. You let me know if there’s anything else you need.”

Max’s old neighbor went back to work. He enjoyed the peaceful company of the boy in front of him, though the boy’s attention was focused more on his food and his toy.

Max took another sip of coffee as he peered out the window of the diner. The sun was just about to go down in New Austin but the view was still clear from the glow of the neon lights.

  “Hey…”

A sudden voice made Max turn his head.

A stranger stood next to his table. Judging from his disheveled clothes and how sloppy his hair was combed, he could have been a man on the streets begging for change. But the look in the man’s eyes was more curious than desperate.

“You need some help?” Max asked, an eyebrow raised.

  “I’ve seen you somewhere before.”

“I come to this diner pretty often. My friend works here from time to time.”

“No, no. That’s not it. I’m not from New Austin. I’m from Zona Black.”

“Zona Black, huh? That’s a long trip.”

“It’s worth it. The place is a mess. Couldn’t wait to get out.”

Max chuckled at the stranger and took another sip of his coffee. “Well… I’m glad you made it out. New Austin’s kinda rough but you keep your head down, you get used to it—”

“Now I remember.” The man’s eyes widened. “I saw you when I was passing through Santa Fe. They were promoting your battle at Reincarnation. The Rebel.”

“What do you know? Somebody recognized me…” Max
thought about lying but figured there was no point. “The Rebel,” Max said with a nod.

“You look a little different out of the Sanctum. It’s funny how much an ACE can change your appearance.”

“I get that. There’s a big difference between launching a grenade and sipping a cup of coffee.”

“Say…” The man rubbed the side of his stringy beard. “You still fighting?”

“I can’t say that I am. Creds are the only reason I picked up the ACE in the first place and I’ve got enough creds to last me a lifetime.”

“That’s too bad. You would do well in Zona Black. People over there could use a guy like you. It’d be a big help.”

“It’d be a big help? I don’t see how an ACE could help.”

“You don’t know what it’s like over there…” The man shook his head and laughed. “Never mind. It was a dumb idea. Just figured you might wanna hear about it. It was nice meeting you, Rebel.”

  “Max. My name’s Max.”

“Max.” The man bowed his head and walked away. Max watched him leave the diner then turned his attention back to his coffee.

  “Strange…”

“Who was that?” Toby tilted his head sideways as he stared at Max.

“It was nobody. Just a man who saw me in Santa Fe.”

“I remember the ACE you had. Did you use that in Santa Fe? Are you gonna use it again? Can I see you fight?”

Max laughed at the little boy’s enthusiasm. He took another sip of coffee and sighed as he shook his head.

“I only use my ACE when I have to. I’m retired.”

“Oh…” Toby frowned in disappointment. “That’s okay. I still like you.”

Max burst into laughter, nearly spitting out his coffee. “Thanks. I like you, too, Toby.”

Toby grinned and stuffed another bite of pancakes into his mouth.

Max turned his head and looked back out toward the view outside. The busy New Austin streets gave him a peace like nothing else.

  “It’s good to be home.”
