Kill me, I thought as I lay there. Kill me.

I woke up to a hand on my ankle. I opened my eyes and glanced at my phone, which was charging on the window sill:

  4:42 AM

“Nat,” I groaned. “Just let me sleep.”

“It’s not Natasha,” Chase’s voice said softly. “It’s me.”

My heart leapt and I rocketed up to a seated position. I tried to scream but Chase slapped a hand over my mouth and silenced me.

“Shhhh,” he whispered. “Don’t scream. I’m not here to hurt you. I came to explain.”

Explain!? Is he serious!? He sneaks into my room, wakes me up, and wants to explain!?

“I know Melinda came to the house,” he said slowly. I thought about biting him to get him to let go, or clawing at his face. After all, he had broken into my apartment, right? Who does that!?

“But she was lying to you, Cady,” he said. His voice was firm, steady, and intent, like he was desperate that I believe him—but not the kind of desperation that you get when someone is lying.

“Nothing Melinda said about me is true,” he continued. “She wants me and will do anything to try and get rid of you. She heard about my ‘new cute tennis instructor’ the other day and that’s why she threw that surprise party for me at the apartment.”

A war was raging inside of me. I was terrified at having been woken up like this, and was also still feeling the pain of the fresh wound I’d been given by Melinda, but I also desperately wanted to believe him—to hear anything that would make me believe that I hadn’t made the biggest mistake of my life by trusting him.

“I’m going to take my hand away now,” he said slowly. “Please, don’t scream.”

He hesitated a moment. Although the room was dark, I could see his eyes from the glow of the streetlight coming in through the window.

Why does he have to be so good-looking!?

  “Please, Cady?”

I nodded slowly and Chase took his hand away from my lips.

“How did you get in here?” I asked him. “Where’s Natasha!? How did you find out where I live?!”

“Your roommate is asleep on the couch with a guy,” he said with a smile. “Passed out, I’m pretty sure. The door was unlocked, and finding out where you live for a guy like me is pretty easy.”

“So you just let yourself in? Just because you could buy the building doesn’t mean you already own it!”

“I had to see you,” he replied. “I couldn’t let you go the whole night thinking…thinking that you didn’t mean the whole world to me.”

  Shit.

  My heart melted.

Chase’s gorgeous eyes were filled with love as he stared at me, and even though I wanted to stay skeptical and protect myself from getting hurt again, there was nothing I could do. I was helpless.

  “Really…?” I whimpered.

“Yes, Cady,” he nodded, taking my hand. “I know it’s early for me to say this—we just met the other day and everything—but, Cady…I’m pretty sure I love you.”

  Chapter Thirteen

  Chase

Cady’s eyes sparkled in the dim light coming in from the street. She was on the verge of tears and her delicate hand was trembling in mine.

My words hung in the air between us, and I had to admit that I was waiting with baited breath for her to answer.

How long had it been since I told her I loved her?

Too long to not get a response, that much was for sure! But I understood her hesitation. Hell, I’d only met the girl yesterday, and Melinda had done her best to poison her against me. I honestly wouldn’t have been surprised if she didn’t say it back.

But I’d wait for her. If she needed time, I’d wait. I didn’t care. She was my princess and I would wait as long as it took to make her my queen.

“You don’t have to say it back—” I started to say, but Cady cut me off.

“I love you too, Chase,” she said.

Her words almost leveled me. I had to tell her how I felt; there was no way I would have been able to keep my true feelings in, but hearing her say it back to me…

My world will never be the same.

Her hand was shaking in mine. I squeezed harder, letting her know that I would never let anything happen to her. The fact that I’d already fucked up by letting Melinda get near her was something I’d forever regret.

I’d made a mistake, but I was going to spend the rest of my life making sure I made up for it and never made another again.

“It means so much to me to hear you say that,” I told her. “I was worried Melinda would turn you against me…”

“I’d like to say that I didn’t believe a word she said,” Cady replied, using her other hand to wipe the tears from her eyes. “But I—”

“It’s okay,” I interrupted. “I don’t blame you. Melinda can be very convincing when she needs to be. That’s why I hired her.”

“So…she’s in love with you too?”

“No,” I replied. “She just wants me. It’s a possessive thing. She’s one of those women who sees something, wants it, and has to have it no matter what. I’m just the next thing on her list.”

I knew what she was going to say before she said it, so I was ready.

  “Did you two ever—?”

“No,” I said firmly. “Never. Never even close.”

My response seemed to please her, but I could see that something was still bothering her. I didn’t know what it was that Melinda had told her, but I could guess.

“And no, I have never done this with any other girls,” I told her. “And no, there aren’t a bunch of other girls, and no, those girls at my apartment weren’t brought there by me. Did Melinda say any of that?”

Cady just nodded. She was trying not to completely burst into tears. I squeezed her hand harder, leaned in, and pulled her to me.

She all but collapsed into my arms. I felt her chest rise with every breath and ran my fingers through her hair as I held her. She was soft, warm, and the missing piece to the puzzle that was my life.

I kissed her gently on the collarbone, then worked my way up her neck to her ear, then across her cheek and eventually to her soft, plump lips. As we kissed, her tears spilled from her eyes onto my cheek.

Never again, I thought. She’ll never cry again.

“Come on,” I told her. “I have a car waiting outside. Come back home with me.”

Cady looked up at me with vulnerability and trust in her eyes. She’d ambushed me with her brilliance, her sweetness, her beauty, and the way she made me laugh and feel things I’d never felt before. I’d showed up for a simple game of tennis and found myself head over heels for the woman of my dreams.

Sometimes life just throws you a curveball, I thought to myself.

  No…that was a baseball analogy!

  She plays tennis, you idiot!

“Sometimes life just…sends you a serve you can’t return,” I said, fumbling around for an analogy to express how I was feeling. It didn’t quite work, though, as Cady gave me a strange look like I was speaking another language or something.

  “What?”

“I dunno,” I laughed. “I was just trying to express how I didn’t expect any of this and do it with a tennis analogy.”

“Oh!” she giggled. “Sometimes the ball just takes a funny bounce?”

“Yea,” I replied. “That’s much better. Come on. Let’s go.”

  “Home?” she asked.

It took a second, but I realized what she was asking.

I’d used the word without even thinking, but she’d noticed as soon as I said it.

  “Yes,” I told her. “Home.”

  Epilogue

  Four months later…

I gasped and gazed up at the full moon as my body shook and my pulse quickened. My eyes moved up my fiancé’s beautiful, chiseled body as I looked down over my baby bump to where he was on the ground between my legs.

“Baby, that feels so good…” I mewed as he dragge
d his tongue up my slick slit from my hole to my clit. My back arched as he sucked it gently and ran his hands up my sides to my breasts.

It had only been four months of pregnancy, but they’d already grown a full cup size and Chase was loving it. He was sure that by the time I was ready to give birth, they’d be so big that I’d have to fight not to topple over.

It was the four-month anniversary of the day we’d met, and Chase had surprised me by taking me here after dinner. He’d rented out the whole club so we’d have complete privacy, led me over to the court where we’d met, where he’d laid out candles and blankets, and told me again just how much he loved me.

It was something I’d never grow tired of hearing. Every time he said it I either melted or butterflies swam through my chest. I still blushed half the time, which embarrassed me, but Chase loved it.

The moonlight glinted off the absurdly enormous rock on my finger. He’d proposed to me the day after he fired Melinda, which was the day after he showed up at my apartment like a burglar in the middle of the night.

He’d taken me on a private jet all the way to the Caribbean to his private home with a private beach and got down on one knee as the sun set over the water. I could hardly believe it.

“Are you kidding?” I’d asked as tears came to my eyes. “Of course I will!”

The next four months had been a whirlwind while I explained to my parents what had happened, filled Natasha in, and did my best to stay away from the paparazzi, who were insisting on getting a photo of Chase Benton with “his new girl.”

But these days, when every single person has a camera on their phone, that proved impossible. It wasn’t more than a few days before photos of us were online and on TV. Natasha thought it was great, but I was still getting used to my newfound “fame.”

“Ignore them,” Chase told me. “The men all want you and the women are all jealous.”

  Jealous of me?

It was a funny thought and one that I was still getting used to. In fact, I was still getting used to my whole new life!

Private cars, private planes, butlers, cooks, everything and anything I ever wanted—oh, and the man of my dreams at my side every morning and every night.

Yeah, being engaged was awesome, and I couldn’t wait to stand in front of him in two weeks, say my vows, and say “I do.”

A shudder ran through my body as Chase flattened his tongue against my clit and applied pressure. If I hadn’t already been staring at the stars, I would have seen them as my fiancé pushed me closer and closer to climax.

He squeezed my breasts and a moan slid from my wet lips. I reached down and ran my fingers across the muscles of his back until I closed my hand around the back of his head and pushed.

  “More…” I whispered.

Chase obliged and pressed down harder on the sweet spot that was going to send me over the edge. A flush of heat ran through me from my toes to my teeth and I cried out as my orgasm slapped into me.

  “Chase!”

My voice echoed around the empty tennis court as I was swept away by ecstasy. My limbs quivered and my core tightened as I came on my fiancé’s tongue. He groaned against my pussy lips and looked up at me. I could barely keep my eyes on him as I shook, wave after wave of pleasure rocking me like waves crashing against the sides of a ship.

Yes, this is what love feels like.

“Fuck me, baby,” I whispered as I slumped down on my back.

“I thought you’d never ask,” Chase replied.

He climbed on top of me and I threw my arms around his neck and pulled him close. I didn’t want to be pounded like a pornstar—not tonight. Tonight I wanted to be made love to.

And that’s exactly what Chase did.

My mouth fell open as he entered me, and I wrapped my lips around his neck as he gave me all of his inches. There was no pain this time—not anymore—but the feeling of being stretched was still there. It always would be. He was too big for me to ever truly get used to his cock, and I loved it.

“Fuck, you feel so good,” I moaned. “You’re so hard.”

“Your pussy is so fucking tight, baby,” he told me, his breath tickling my ear. “You drive me crazy.”

The stars shone above us as we made love in the very same spot where we’d met four months ago. Neither of us had been expecting our lives to change that day, but that’s exactly what happened.

I gasped as he started fucking me, thrusting his hips with long steady strokes that he knew I loved. His position was perfect—hitting my g-spot with the swollen crown of his incredible cock.

  God, I’m close again already…

I wanted more, and twisted my body slightly and managed to reach down between Chase’s legs and grab his balls. He loved it when I played with them and let out a long groan as I took hold and squeezed ever so gently.

“Fuck, baby…you’re going to make me come already if you do that.”

“Do it,” I told him. “I know you can go again in a few minutes.”

Chase’s response was a deep, guttural groan. He picked up the pace and locked my lips in his. I sucked his tongue like I was trying to eat him up. I clung to him, my heart blazing and my blood on fire as he pounded my pussy, pulling me faster and faster toward another orgasm that was going to knock my socks off.

I might die, I thought sarcastically. But what a great way to go!

His cock pulsed and swelled to its max and Chase let out a grunt as his body shook and flexed against mine. Hot, thick ropes of his sweet seed sprayed into me with powerful force as his cock throbbed and twitched like a strong muscle.

My pussy clamped down and I cried out into his mouth as my own orgasm rocked my world. We came, our mouths sealed together, as we made love beneath the stars on the ground where we’d first met. I kissed him slow and deep as his body slowed and we rocked together.

I wrapped my legs around him, feeling the hot load he’d left deep inside of me, and stared into his eyes as he finally broke our embrace and looked down at me.

  “You’re amazing,” he whispered.

  “No, you are,” I smiled.

We were both grinning like a couple of goofballs. And I loved that; I loved that I could be myself around Chase and that he loved me for who I was. I loved that I trusted him no matter what and knew now, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that he would never do anything to hurt me.

“Hey, guess what?” I said sheepishly, feeling the red return to my cheeks.

  “What’s that?”

“I came up with a good tennis pun,” I replied.

“Yeah? What is it?” he grinned.

“Ask me what the score of our game is,” I told him. I saw a twinkle in his eye; he already knew what I was going to say, but asked anyway.

“What’s the score of our game?”

  “Love-love.”
