Mickey's Way
Page 54
It was the call Wednesday evening that Mickey hadn’t expected which would surprise everyone.
It was just after half seven, he had just put the twins to bed. The ladies were sorting out the triplets and Rebecca, when his mobile rang. Recognising the number as Lenny he answered it.
“Pour yourself a drink Mickey, you’re gonna need one.”
“What’s up Len, has something happened?”
“Oh yeah, something’s happened alright!”
“Fuck me Len, just get to the point!”
“Alright calm down, just thought you might like to know that someone took Davy Sheridan out this afternoon!”
Mickey couldn’t believe what Lenny just said, he asked him to repeat it. Den and Billy just sat looking at him; they knew from his face something wasn’t quite right.
“Someone popped Davy this afternoon, they cut his throat. Straight up Mickey, they took the fucker out. You won’t be having any more trouble from Mr fucking Sheridan!”
“No mistake Lenny, you’re a hundred percent sure?”
“Fuck me do you want me to send you a fucking photo and a copy of the death certificate? I’m telling you, he’s dead!”
“I can’t believe it; do you know who was behind it?”
“Well there was no shortage of people who wanted him dead. My guess is, either the Russian bloke or Rodney Hopper, but it could have been anyone. For all I know he might have tried to fuck someone inside, after all he liked that sorter thing didn’t he! Anyway I’ve got to go now, just thought you’d like to know. No doubt your Mrs will be relieved?”
“You’re not wrong there Lenny, thanks for letting me know. I think I’ll crack open a bottle of champagne! Speak to you soon, cheers again.”
His dad and Billy were staring at him.
“I’m not telling you,” he said looking at them “I want to wait ‘til mum and Maria are here. Dad can you fetch a bottle of champagne from the wine cellar?”
Billy asked what they were celebrating.
“Nice try Billy” said Mickey “when the girls come down I’ll tell you.”
Twenty minutes later Maria and the others appeared, she noticed the champagne and six glasses on the coffee table. Looking at him she asked if they were celebrating something.
Before answering, he popped the cork spilling more on the table than in the glasses. Then he handed her a glass, along with the others. Raising his glass, he looked at Jess.
“This probably won’t make much sense to you babe,” he said smiling at her “but I’d like to offer a toast. Raise your glasses please and let’s toast to the death of Davy Sheridan and the bloke who took the little bastard out!”
The three men took a swig of their drink, the women just stood there. Maria asked if it was true, no mistake.
“No babe, there’s no mistake he’s dead.”
Suddenly overwhelmed with the realisation that her family was no longer at risk, she burst into tears. Walking over to her and hugging her he said he thought she’d be happy not sad.
“I am happy, I don’t know what came over me, I’m so sorry. For so long that dreadful family have been a constant threat to us, I can’t believe it’s finally over.”
Jess just sat there, she had heard them argue over someone called Davy, but she had no idea just what an effect he had on them until then.
Billy could see she was unaware exactly what the Sheridan’s had done to the family.
“You think this is strange Jess,” joked Billy “you should have seen the celebrations when Davy’s granddad died. All over London, people threw parties! Take it from me babe the world is better off without the Sheridan’s, they’re a bad lot.”
“The poor girl,” said Mary “she must wonder what ever sort of people we are. Billy’s right though love, we’re all better off without the likes of the Sheridan’s, but I wouldn’t want you thinking we celebrate people getting murdered, this is just a one off love!”
“I think you’re the nicest people I’ve ever met and you’ve all been so kind to me and Becky. This Davy must have been really bad for you all to hate him, so he probably deserved what happened to him? I wish someone would kill Becky’s father.”
She suddenly realised what she’d said when everyone just stared at her. Quickly she tried to redeem herself by saying she hadn’t meant to say that, but he was horrible.
They all burst out laughing as Mickey said, “Don’t worry about it babe, we’ve all thought that about people sometime in our lives. If everyone died because someone wished it, there would be bodies piled up from here to Lands End.”
By ten o’clock that evening, just about everyone knew about Davy’s death and no one was more pleased than Shaun.
His words to Mickey when he called to tell him were, “Well that’s grand, now you and my lassie can get on and enjoy your life with your lovely family.” He jokingly added, “Will we be sending flowers?”
Davy’s funeral took place the following week. Lenny told them only a handful of people turned up. It certainly wasn’t the grand event Davy would have hoped for, it would have been different had there been any family. People would have gone out of respect, but thankfully Davy was the end of his blood line. According to Lenny there wasn’t a will. Mickey told him it could take years to settle his estate, probate was a very long drawn out process. Although he was confident there would be no shortage of people contacting the solicitor stating they were related to him.
CHAPTER 79
Over the weeks that followed, everyone noticed how much more relaxed the whole family were. Maria was quite happy to take Jess shopping without Billy. She had even suggested Mickey returning to work at his Kent office a few days a week. Work was well underway on the annexe for his parents; hopefully it would be finished by the summer. Maria and Jess spent lots of time at the cottage. The builders were putting in new ceilings and new stairs before replacing the kitchen and bathroom. With the exception of Billy, everyone else was banned from seeing it because they wanted to show them the finished project. The only reason they allowed Billy to go with them was to help them clear out the garden. Although he was no Alan Titchmarsh, but when it came to moving bulky rubbish, he was indispensable. Truth was he was happy to be there, especially when the builders tried to hit on the girls he made it clear that he was with them.
George and Monica had visited almost every weekend, either looking for property or checking out the locations of schools. George was counting the days to when the club would finally be theirs. The arranged date for the contract to be signed was June the sixteenth, which was only four weeks away. Maria had said they could stay with them until they found somewhere to rent. They would be buying a property when the right one came up. Fortunately they had already secured a buyer for their house in London, another detective and his family were keen to buy it. George was leaving the Force at the end of June. Jeff Black had tried his best to convince him to stay, but George couldn’t wait to leave, despite being a key player in the sex trafficking case involving young Sergei. They had finally caught up with the man known as Ivan and several arrests had been made in connection with the case. As well as several high profile people being brought up on charges involving sex with minors. They included a very high ranking police officer who was a friend of Jeff Black’s. A house which had been raided in connection with Ivan had housed seventeen young boys, their ages ranging from twelve to seventeen, most of them being brought over from Russia and the Ukraine.
George was also confident that Ivan had been behind the hit on Davy Sheridan, although no one had been charged with his murder. Mickey had talked Maria into having their weekend away before taking on the new club. She had seemed reluctant at first because it meant leaving all the kids, but she was actually looking forward to it. They planned to go two weeks before opening night of the club. Mickey had called the hotel and made the reservations; they would leave on Friday afternoon and return on Sunday.
When that Friday arrived as usual Maria was getting cold feet about
leaving the kids, but after a lot of coaxing and reassurance from the family they eventually left two hours later than arranged. They didn’t arrive at the hotel until gone eight. The room was lovely; Billy had paid for the best.
“Hurry up and change babe,” said Mickey “we’re eating at the hotel tonight. Tomorrow we’ll eat at the restaurant of our choice.”
“Go down to the bar and order the drinks, I won’t be long I’ll meet you there.”
“Ok, I’ll see you downstairs.”
As he sat at the bar, a woman came and sat next to him. She was very attractive in her mid to late thirties, brunette with a good figure. At first he thought she was a high class call girl touting for a client, but as she talked to him he realised she was in London on business. They sat for almost an hour chatting. Although at no time did he give her any reason to think that he was looking for company.
“This may sound a bit forward Mickey, but I don’t suppose you’d care to join me for dinner, would you?”
“Thank you for the offer, but I’m waiting for my wife. God only knows what’s taking her so long.”
“Well my guess is with a good looking husband like you, she’ll want to make herself look as good as possible.”
“She doesn’t need to try, she’s very beautiful.”
“Well she’s lucky to have you; most women would love their husbands to tell them they’re beautiful.”
“She doesn’t need me to tell her, she already knows I think she is and I’m lucky to have her.”
Realising that he clearly wasn’t interested in her, she asked him about his family, typical conversation material.
“We’ve got six children; one is from my first marriage. Our house is like a lunatic asylum most days. We have ponies and dogs and the best friends anyone could wish for.”
As they chatted, he felt a hand on his shoulder and a voice asked if the seat next to him was taken. He turned and grinned when the woman he’d been chatting to looked up and said he was waiting for his wife.
“This is my wife,” he replied as he leaned over and kissed Maria.
“Sorry I’ve been so long darling; I couldn’t do my dress up. I’m so used to having you help me.”
Smiling at the woman she offered her hand “Maria thanks for keeping him company.”
“I’m Dana, nice to meet you Maria. Your husband has been telling me all about you, although I cannot believe you’ve had five children, you don’t look old enough.”
“Thank you. Did you tell Dana we live in a mad house Mickey?”
“Actually babe I did.”
A few minutes later Dana left the bar and headed towards the restaurant. Maria teased him.
“She was pretty darling, I bet you wish I wasn’t here, I reckon you could have pulled.”
“I’ve got everything I need right here. I’ve told you my days of lusting over other women are long gone. I’m afraid you’re stuck with me babe.”
“Good, now can we eat, I’m starving!”
“Tell you the truth babe; I’d be quite happy with a sandwich in our room. You look so good, I could eat you.”
“Keep your voice down someone will hear you; anyway I need to eat to keep my strength up for tonight. I’ve got a surprise for you later.”
All through dinner, he kept asking her what it was. He had gathered from what she had said that it was something she would be wearing, but she kept him guessing. Even as they went up to their room after dinner, she still wouldn’t tell him.
When they entered their room, she noticed a huge bouquet of red roses and an ice bucket with a bottle of champagne next to the bed.
“Oh Mickey” she said as she hugged him “how romantic, pour us some champagne and get undressed then wait for me on the bed.”
She disappeared into the bathroom.
Twenty minutes later, she emerged from the en-suite. His jaw dropped open as she walked towards him. She was wearing the little leather outfit he had bought for her. Carrying a pair of handcuffs, she seductively climbed onto the bed next to him. Pushing him onto his back before handcuffing him to the bed, she teased him with her tongue as she rolled it down his body before taking him into her mouth, only to stop every few seconds.
Mickey was almost begging her to fuck him, he was so horny. Still she teased him, until he was almost bursting with anticipation, then she undid him and slipped the handcuffs onto her wrists. She laid down holding her arms outstretched towards the bed head for him to secure the handcuffs. Sucking and flicking her nipples as they protruded between the leather straps he almost ripped her leather hot pants off in his eagerness. With her completely at his mercy he took his drink from the bedside table and dipped his finger into it. Then dripping it onto her stomach he proceeded to lick it off, before making his way down her body. Now it was his turn to tease her, finally he could stand no more. Thrusting himself into her; still handcuffed she raised her body up in unison with his. Their love making was fiery and passionate, even when they finished and he uncuffed her, they lay kissing and touching one another until the early hours of the morning.
“If we’re going to do this again tomorrow night babe, you’ll have to drive home on Sunday because I won’t have the strength.”
“I’ve brought another outfit with me for tomorrow night darling; perhaps we should order breakfast in bed for Sunday?”
Both of them felt totally at peace as they snuggled down in the bed, their troubles with Davy Sheridan were now nothing more than a bad memory. Everything was finally coming together; their lives were full and happy again. Both of them were exactly where they wanted to be, looking forward to spending the rest of their lives together with their family!
