“I want you to reach your hands above your head and keep them there,” he ordered.

  “Can’t I touch you?”

“Soon,” he promised. “But first I want to worship this body. I want to show you that there is no one more desirable.”

He kissed his way along her jaw to her ear then down her neck. He certainly didn’t miss many spots as he made his way down her body. He took his time playing with her nipples, sucking on them, lapping at them. Her body filled with need.

He kissed down her stomach until he reached her pussy. He slid between her legs and wrapped his arms around her hips as he played with her. His touch was so light yet almost reverent. Tears entered her eyes. She’d known he’d meant every word, but it didn’t mean she’d truly believed it.

“So lovely. So sweet. And all mine.” He kissed along the top of her thighs, reached her mound and slipped his tongue inside to tease her clit. “All mine.”

He ran his tongue along her slit. “And it’s not just about this gorgeous body. It’s your entire soul. Loyal and caring and more courage than a man would desire since he also wants a chance to protect. To be that safety net.”

Oh, God, he was killing her.

“Please, Connor, please let me touch you.”

He rose, sliding along her body. She pushed at his chest. “Please.”

He rolled over onto his back. “Straddle me, baby.”

She sat up then threw her leg over his body so her pussy was pressed against his stomach. She cupped his face between her hands, leaned down and kissed him. He hadn’t shaved yet and she placed her cheek against his. Then she slid down his body, kissing along his chest, taking his nipple into her mouth.

  He groaned. “Jesus, baby.”

“You are so gorgeous. So strong.” She wanted to give all the words back. She just wasn’t sure what to say. “And I love that you want to protect me.” She glanced up as she settled between his legs, grinning at him. “Even if you can take it too far.”

He raised his eyebrows. “I don’t know what you mean.”

“You make me wait by the door every time we go into my apartment while you search for the bogeyman.”

He gave a false shudder of fear. “I assure you, had I found the bogeyman I would have called for you to protect me immediately, that guy is terrifying.”

She grinned and shook her head then lowered her mouth to his cock. She hummed as she took just the tip of him inside her. The salty taste of him spread along her tongue as she ran it over the slit in the head.

  “You taste delicious.”

There was a slight flush to his cheeks. Hmm, had she finally flustered him? She was filled with a heady rush of confidence. Maybe he wasn’t used to the words either.

“You’re sexy and strong and a little obsessed with rules and safety.” She ran her hand up and down his cock.

“You can never have too many rules.”

She snorted in disagreement. “You can definitely have too many rules.”

“Rules keep things civilized. Even the animal kingdom has rules. Who is in charge and who submits.”

She raised an eyebrow. “And often it’s the female in charge.”

“The female is always in charge. But her safety and comfort should always come first. Come here.” He crooked a finger at her.

She shook her head and took him into her mouth. Deep. He groaned, his eyelids closing for a moment. His jaw was clenched tight. She moved slowly, sucking on him as she drew her way up his cock. Down fast. Slowly up.

His breathing came in harsh pants. A light sheen of sweat covered his skin.

  “Ria. Get up here. Now.”

There was an implacable note to his voice. Probably be wise to do what he wanted. She let his cock go with a plop and was just moving up his body when he grabbed her under the armpits and pulled her up. Then he rolled them over until he was on top. He kissed her. There was nothing light or sweet about this kiss. It was hard and hot. He eased back, staring down at her intently.

“Roll over onto your hands and knees. I want you to grab hold of the headboard and spread your legs.”

She stared at him for all of twenty seconds then she put herself into position. He moved in behind her, covering her. His hands came around and cupped her breasts as he entered her. It was a swift, hard entrance, and she cried out, throwing her head back. He froze. “Okay, baby?”

  “Oh, yeah.”

  “Good. Now hang on.”

He pulled back then thrust forward. His hands covered hers on the headboard as he pounded his way inside her. There was no other way to describe it.

And, oh, fuck, she loved it.

He pushed that big cock inside her, taking her, driving her crazy. His body slammed against hers, rocking the whole bed against the wall. Fuck, they were really going to give the next-door neighbors something to talk about, but she didn’t give a fuck.

He let go of one hand and moved it down to her clit. He flicked it. Hard. Fast.

“Come for me, baby. I want to feel you rippling around me. Come on. Come hard.”

She arched back, screaming as she found her release. He moved his finger from her clit, wrapped his hands around her hips to hold her still as he continued to fuck her.

Oh, God. She could barely breathe. Everything around her blurred. The world became only him. Then he let out a yell, pushing himself deep.

And she wished he would never let her go.

They lay in bed later, her head cradled on his chest, his arm wrapped around her.

“Why did you get into BDSM?” she asked, wanting to know more about him.

He stiffened beneath her then let out a sigh. She leaned up, placing her arm on his chest so she could look down at him. “You don’t have to tell me.”

“No, it’s all right. There was a woman.”

“Ah.” Maybe she didn’t want to hear this.

“Greta, she was, well, she pretended to be someone she wasn’t. She told me she loved me. I believed her. But it turned out she was using me.”

“I’m so sorry, I know how that feels. My old Dom used me.”

He ran his hand up and down her arm soothingly.

“At least it wasn’t all bad for me. She changed the course of my life. For the better. I was a bit of a nerd. Spent all my time behind my computer. She brought me out into the land of the living. She introduced me to BDSM, and it was like I’d found my place. You know?”

“Yeah, I do.” Except Martin didn’t change the course of her life for the better. Oh, no, he’d changed it for the worse. She wished she could open up completely with Connor. Tell him everything.

But she couldn’t. She guessed it was a good thing this relationship was only for a short time, since she was living a lie, pretending to be someone she wasn’t.

Something she was sure he’d never forgive if he ever found out.

“I can’t believe you made me wear a butt plug for this meeting.” She scowled at Connor.

He grinned as he helped her out of the car. Carefully. Because he also hadn’t let her wear any panties. What if the damn thing slipped out?

God. She could feel her cheeks growing hot.

“You’re the only one who’ll be embarrassed by that in there.” He waved towards Ajax’s house, where they were meeting Roarke and Hunter Black, Connor’s boss. “Well, except for maybe Sophie. But if Ajax is smart he’s got one stuck up her ass as well.”

She froze at the thought. “What? You think Ajax will plug her?”

He shrugged. “It’s what I would do. But Ajax isn’t me.”

  No, he wasn’t.

“He’s likely taking things slowly because of her background. It will take him a while to build trust between them. So maybe you will be the only one with a bit of rubber in your bottom. But I promise, no one here will be the least bit shocked.”

“You’re not going to tell them?” She looked at him in horror.

“Baby, I won’t have to, you’re waddling like a du
ck. They’re going to know as soon as they see you.”

“I’m leaving.” She turned away and headed back to the car.

“Of course. I’ll drive you to the hotel then come back.”

It was hard to believe that they’d been together such a short time. It felt so right being around him. She felt so safe.

But not safe enough to let him in completely?

No. Not yet. She took her hearing aid out at night, in the dark, but that was as far as she could take it. She just wasn’t ready for anything more. It was silly and deep down she knew he wouldn’t reject her.

  But old fears died hard.

It didn’t help that this relationship was temporary. Maybe if she knew he wanted to be with her enough to make something more of this, she could open up more. Although she didn’t know how she would ever be able to tell him who she was. She didn’t want to think about his reaction to that. But that didn’t matter, because as soon as they found this asshole, he’d be going back to Dallas. And she’d be eating a lot of chocolate and ice cream.

She paused and sighed. She didn’t want to go back to the hotel. So what if anyone knew she was wearing a butt plug because she waddled? No one was going to be rude enough to mention it. And she’d demanded to be allowed at this meeting, she could hardly walk away now.

She turned back around with a grumble. “I’m coming.”

Connor grinned but didn’t say anything.

  Smart move.

She placed her hand through the crook of his elbow. He held his laptop bag in his other hand. He knocked on the door and Ajax answered. He looked tired. Worn out.

  “Oh, Ajax, are you okay?”

He smiled at her then waved them in. “I’m fine, little one. Come in. Can I get you two a drink?”

  “Beer, thanks,” Connor told him.

  “Make that two,” Ria added.

“The others are in the main living room. Ria knows the way. I’ll join you soon. I’m glad you’re here, Ria. Sophie’s been really stressed. She could use a friend.”

She hoped Sophie was okay. She’d talked to her friend a few times, but she’d always said she was fine. Ria should have insisted on seeing her in person.

She walked into the living area that had floor-to-ceiling windows with views out to the woodland beyond. Ajax’s house was beautifully decorated. But right now, she didn’t notice any of that. All she could see were the two big men dominating the large space. And intimidating the hell out of Sophie. Not that they probably meant to.

  Or maybe they did.

A dark-haired, well-dressed man sat on a high-backed armchair, a glass of scotch in his hand. He was looking at something on his phone.

A large-built man stood behind him. He was leaning against the fireplace. He had a glass of scotch in one hand, but his gaze was set on Sophie, who looked small and defenseless as she sat in the corner of the large sectional.

“Here you go. Doesn’t she look gorgeous?” The dark-haired man held up his phone to the other guy who came over and took it.

“She looks like an overgrown rat.”

“Oh, God,” Connor muttered beside her.

“Why has she got that pink bow on her head? She has no hair.”

“She doesn’t have to have hair to wear a bow,” the dark-haired man insisted.

“Look better if she did,” the big man observed.

  “Hunter,” Connor snapped.

“What?” The big man glanced up with a grimace. “Oh, you’re here, Sticky. You’ve got to come and see these photos of Roarke’s. We need a second opinion. Cute or overgrown rat?”

“Hunter, you can’t insult his daughter like that.” Connor sounded horrified but resigned.

They were talking about a child?

Hunter’s eyes widened. “I’m not talking about his kid. Jesus, I’m not that much of an ass. I start insulting his kid and Roarke will want my balls on a platter.”

“I certainly will.” Roarke said smoothly.

“Luckily, the kid takes after Ava rather than this butt-ugly bastard,” Hunter commented. “Do you know whose kid she is?”

  “Jesus, help me,” Connor muttered.

“It doesn’t matter who her biological father is,” Roarke explained with exasperation, as though they’d had this argument before. “She’s our daughter. Mine, Sam’s, and Ava’s.”

“Hey, however you want to run your threesome is up to you. I’m just saying you should be grateful she looks like Ava.”

Roarke stood and looked over at her, running his gaze over her. “Hello, you must be Ria.”

She nodded. Connor wrapped his arm around her waist and walked into the room with her held against him. She was grateful for the support. She didn’t think much intimidated her now. But Hunter Black would intimidate anyone. Did he even have a filter on his mouth?

“Just ignore Hunter,” Connor told her. “He’s not allowed out very often.”

“I can see why,” she said wryly.

Hunter raised his eyebrows. “And I can see why Connor plugged you.”

  She blushed bright red.

Hunter gave Connor a thumbs up. “Good call, man.”

Connor sighed. “I was hoping Cady would come with you.”

Hunter grinned. “She had to go to another baby shower. I swear everyone around us is breeding. It’s like a damn epidemic.” He shuddered. “Babies, they—”

“I think I’ll stop you there before you do start to insult me.” Roarke moved closer, held out his hand to her. “Lovely to finally meet you, Ria. I’ve heard many wonderful things about you.”

She reached out and shook his hand as Ajax returned with the drinks. He had a nice grip. Not too hard. His palms were dry and warm.

“Although I wasn’t too happy when I heard you jumped into a bar fight after being told to stay back.”

She bit her lip. Unlike Hunter, whose forceful personality was loud and out there, Roarke hid his inner Dom behind a more civilized veneer. But it was definitely there.

“I couldn’t stand by while people got hurt.”

“But it’s okay for you to get hurt?” He shook his head then looked to Connor. “You’ll have to work on that.”

“I will be,” Connor said easily.

She frowned up at him. He gave her his Dom look back. Shoot.

Ajax set their drinks on the coffee table then sat next to Sophie.

“So if you weren’t talking about Roarke’s daughter, who were you arguing over?” Connor asked.

“Roarke bought a rat for Ava,” Hunter told him.

  “It’s not a rat, it’s a dog. She’s always wanted one.”

“It looks like a rat. A Rottweiler is a dog. A Labrador is a dog. I’ll even admit that even a Beagle is a dog.”

Connor looked at the photo on Roarke’s phone. Then he grinned. Instantly her whole body warmed. There was just something about that man when he smiled. Who was she kidding? He didn’t have to smile to make her melt. “What is that?”

  Roarke sighed. “It’s a Chihuahua.”

“Never thought I’d say this, but I’ve got to side with Hunter. That thing is an overgrown rat.”

Roarke pointed at Hunter then Connor. “Just wait until your women come to you with their big puppy eyes, begging for one of these things. See if you can resist saying yes.”

And just like that her happiness died away. She wasn’t his woman. No matter what she liked to pretend. Turning, she made her way over to Sophie as quickly as she could.

Damn it, was she really waddling like a duck.

Ajax saw her coming and stood, giving her a small smile before making his way over to the other guys to look at the photo of the rat-dog.

“Hey, how’re you doing?” she asked as she sat. Carefully. She was going to kill Connor later.

“As well as anyone who’s waiting on death row can be doing.”

“Sophie,” she scolded. “It’s not that bad. You know Ajax and I are going to protect you.”

  The other woman glan
ced up at Ajax then away.

“Are you okay?” Ria asked. “He’s treating you all right, isn’t he?”

Sophie smiled. “He is. He’s treating me very well. Almost too well.”

Ria frowned, not understanding. Then Sophie leaned into her. “Are you really wearing a butt plug?”

  “Yes.” She glared at Connor.

“Good for you.” Sophie winked at her.

Ria let out a surprised laugh. “You really think so?”

“I’ve seen the way he’s looked at you in the bar when no one else was watching. I never told you because you tend to be suspicious of everyone and I didn’t want you to push him away if he ever got up the courage to approach you.”

  “I don’t think it’s courage he lacks.”

“No? Hmm, you might be right. I kind of thought he was shy. I’m rethinking that now.”

“You offered to find him a nice sub to play with,” Ria reminded her.

“Thought it might make you a little jealous. Prod you into action.”

Ria rolled her eyes. “I didn’t need much prodding in the end.”

“I’d glad. You deserve a good man. He treats you well?”

“Yeah, he does. He’s amazing. But he’s not mine.”

  “What do you mean?”

“We signed a contract but it’s only in place for as long as he’s here. Then he’ll go back to his life and I’ll go back to mine.”

Sophie grabbed hold of her hand and squeezed it. “Oh, Ria, I’m so sorry.”

Ria shrugged. “At least I had him for some time, right?”

  It was better than nothing.

  “You okay?” Sophie asked quietly.

Shit. Here she was, moping because she couldn’t keep the first man she’d truly ever wanted and here was Sophie, worried to hell that she was going to go to jail because of a stupid mistake.

“I’m fine. What about you? You’ve been staying here with Ajax?”

  “He won’t let me leave.”

  “What?” Ria asked sharply.

Sophie waved her hand. “It’s okay. Not in a horrible way or anything. He’s worried that Jerry or one of his brothers might come after me. He’s been very protective. A little standoffish, but I guess I can’t blame him for that.”
