Donut dismounted his moose as he rode up, took a long look around the valley and then turned to me.
"Where is the chief scumbag?"
"Vill got away at the last moment," I explained, waving to the rest of my friends as they were arriving. "I'll tell you everything later."
I could still hear the Twice Cursed One's last words. Why was he asking to be finished off? Was that connected to Sata's and Merdoc's warnings? I had also finally realized that his escape had been predestined. Back in that vision brought on by the painting in Ar-Iraz's castle, my wife wasn't present. If she were, would she have allowed me to go into battle without her? Doubtful, that just wasn't like her at all. What was the level of the Ancient Beast, anyway? Sata wouldn't have come to me for help against a random raid boss. Something inside me was certain that I hadn't yet lost my chance to rescue Jaelitte. I sighed and gazed up at the clouds floating overhead. Just then, an alarming music sounded in my ears.
To all the players and clans of the Realm of Arkon! A great threat looms over Karn. The Ancient Gods Vaepar, Valeph and Halephos lust for revenge against the inhabited world. A giant army of the transformed has crossed into Siruat Heath, set on attacking the Great Forest tomorrow at noon. This is a call to all those who cherish their home and don't wish to live as slaves in the ruins of the old world. Rise up and defend the Great Forest! A forced armistice is being instituted between all the races, factions and gods of the Realm of Arkon until the threat posed by the Ancient Gods has been neutralized.
Once I was done reading the system message, I looked around the faces of my friends. Their expressions were resolute.
"Well, then? Next stop, the Great Forest!"
