  “What for?”

“I was just thinking, maybe it’s time I heard her story, from her.”

  “Sure, okay. What about Kara?”

“Kara can fucking wait. Reagen comes first,” I said. For some reason, I enjoyed the idea of making Kara wait. I knew it would piss her off, and that pleased me.

Seth motioned Reagen to join us.

“Hi Reagen. It came to my attention that I haven’t been fair to you, so I want to hear your story, judge it for myself.”

“I take it if I refuse, I’m out?” she asked stubbornly.

“Well, no, because if I kick you out, I’ll lose my Enforcer, and I can’t risk losing my Enforcer during this bloody war, but I’ll never trust you.”

Reagen began when they first left the Midnight Saints. Then, she recounted every beating. With every account, Austin and I began to get angrier and angrier. Our anger was no longer toward Reagen, but toward the asshole who would dare lay hands on her. Tears were pouring down her face, but she kept talking. Seth held her hand. At last, she told us how she got rescued and arrived at the clubhouse.

“They would have let him kill her, Tony,” Seth added, and I couldn’t deny that now. I never really should have in the first place.

“Reagen, I am sorry for misjudging you and I commend you for your bravery and smarts to get the hell out. No man will ever hurt you again. As your Prez, you have my word on that. Saints don’t condone domestic violence. I should have seen you for what you really were, and I apologize for that. You have the full protection of the Midnight Saints from now on.”

“Thank you!” She got up and went to the bathroom.

“Well, fuck!” Austin said. “She’s lucky to be alive. Okay, now we have to discuss this Kara issue.”

“Ah, fuck. Kara. No one trusts her enough to vote for her. It’s not even an issue. She’ll never be Prez. If she can behave herself, she can stay at the clubhouse. She is a target, so that’s the least we can do.”

“Okay, moving on then, Maxum and the Shadow Order. He intends to wipe us out.”

“Yeah, I know. If we spread out, he won’t be able to wipe us all out. Problem is our number one enemy knows where the clubhouse is and knows how to get in. Now, we can up security, but if he does make a move on the clubhouse, we’re screwed.”

“Unless we have the Crypt Keepers backing us. That’s the only good thing Kara has done, if she indeed has them under an agreement. We need them. We need their numbers, Tony.”

“Yeah.” I scratched my chin. “Yeah, we do. What did she offer them?”

“Whores and beer, from what I heard,” Seth said.

“Free whores and beer?” I asked.

  “Friends discount,” Seth said.

I rubbed my chin in thought and raked my hands through my hair a few times. “That’s a good offer. Why didn’t I think of that? How the fuck did Kara get a meeting with the Crypt Keepers in the first place?”

“She has an ex in their ranks— the Enforcer.”

“You sure know a lot.” I turned to Seth.

“I’m a good listener. I actually listened when she spoke.”

“Okay, smart ass.” I smacked him in the head. I was against violence against women, unless it was necessary, but I had no problem being violent with men. I was known for my bar fights. I had a temper and often threw my fists into the face of whoever pissed me off enough to earn it. I was rough with my guys, but then, Maxum was too. We all knew our place. Apparently, that didn’t matter as the fucker screwed us anyway. “One more beer, then we head back.”

“How about a game of pool? Rematch from the other day,” Austin suggested.

  “You’re on.”

We got up and Austin racked the balls for me. I rubbed the tip of my cue stick with the chalk block a few dozen times. Austin broke but didn’t get a ball in. “Call it!”

  “I guess stripes.”

  “You sure?”

  “Yeah.”

“Okay.” I stepped up to the table, lined my shot with the one-ball, and shot the cue ball across the table. Not only did it knock the one-ball in, but it also knocked the six. I lined it up again, aiming for the two-ball. I shot the cue ball and the two-ball effortlessly sunk into the pocket.

  “Show off!” Austin teased.

“Three-ball, center pocket,” I announced, feeling cocky. I lined my cue ball up, and shit, I scratched, then it was Austin’s turn.

He studied the table and looked at all the balls and their positions. Then he lined up the cue ball for the back wall. Austin was a math whiz— he could figure out angles, which made him a killer pool player. He shot the cue ball across the table, it bounced off the back wall and slammed into the nine and eleven-ball across the table, sending them both into the pocket without scratching. He moved to the other side of the table, reached his long arms to raise the cue stick as a high angle, and took his shot. The cue ball crashed into the pile of balls, sending the five and eight away from the pocket and making the twelve and ten roll into opposite pockets. Two more strikes and he won the game. “I thought that was supposed to be a rematch.”

“You fucking asshole,” I said, but I pulled out my wallet anyway and paid him.

  “Go again?”

I checked my wallet. “Not today, you’ll break me. Besides, game time is over. We have work to do.” We packed up the pool stuff and headed back to the table.

  Chapter 6

  Tony

We were sitting there drinking when Kara came in and sat with Reagen. I was still feeling bad for how I had treated her, but seeing her with Kara sent red flags. I had known Kara and Reagen knew each other once upon a time when they were both more present with the Saints, but Reagen left with Jacob and Kara left after she and her father had their falling out.

I watched them. They seemed to be tight, like they shared a secret, and I wasn’t cool with that.

“Since when are Kara and Reagen besties?” I asked Seth.

“Since they had coffee together this afternoon. I guess Kara wanted someone on her side, and she was checking up on Raegan. They were friends a long time ago,” Seth said.

“Wait a fucking minute, you knew? You knew Kara was planning to take over and you didn’t say a fucking thing?”

  “She asked me not to.”

“I don’t give a fuck. I’m your Prez and you answer to me.” I slammed my beer on the table. “Seth, I think it’s time you were taught your place.” I stood up, ready for a fight. “I’m the goddamn Prez around here.” I threw a punch, but it missed. Seth stood his ground. He knew better than to punch back. I threw another punch, and this time, it struck Seth in the jaw, inviting him to swing back. He missed. I couldn’t tell if it was on purpose or what, but I didn’t care as I slammed him to the ground and started slamming my fist into his face. Kara jumped up and wrapped her arm around my neck.

“Let him go, Tony!” I released Seth and Austin pulled him to his feet. “You can’t lead if you’re going to be a hothead. Seth didn’t betray you. There was no reason to punch him.”

“This is a time of war, man. You have to keep your shit together,” Austin added. “Both of you. Now, sober up. We’re going to hold a vote in the morning.”

Austin and Seth helped me to Austin’s hog. I was too drunk to ride on my own. Seth took my ride while Reagen followed on his.

I hated Kara even more, and I grumbled about it as I headed to bed.

I guess I had the hots for her somewhere deep down because I ended up having a fucking wet dream about her against my better judgement.

I pictured her naked, straddling a Harley. Her body was covered in ink, a beer bottle in one hand, a cigarette in the other, her long hair hiding her tattooed nipples like Lady Godiva on her horse. She was a tatted goddess, and she was all mine.

She beckoned me to her, flicked her cigarette, and then leaned back, arching her back over her bike. She took my member into her sweet, hot, wet mouth and sucked it. Her tongue teased my balls like an expert whore. She kic
ked her legs up and wrapped them around my neck, bringing her wet, juicy pussy to my mouth. I buried my head in her sweetness.

At last, she dropped her legs back down and pulled her mouth away from me. I moved and straddled her bike. She raised her legs so I could slide right in. It was mind blowing. She was incredible, and I didn’t want the dream to end.

When I woke up, my sheets were wet and I was covered in sweat. I took a shower and jerked off. When I closed my eyes, I could see her tattooed body. It was perfect. I came again and again till the water went cold. Then I stood there, letting the cold water cool me off. I had to get myself under control. I could never admit my thoughts.

I stepped out of my room with my bundled bed sheets under my arm, and Austin gave me a look, so I glanced down to make sure I wasn’t showing a boner. I wasn’t.

“And just who were you thinking about last night?”

“Harley. I was thinking about Harley,” I said, naming the red-headed whore who had given me a hard-on the other night. “It’s been a while since I had a good fuck. After this meeting, I might just go hunt her down and fuck her brains out or let her suck me dry.”

“Or you could just fuck Kara,” Austin said, not giving up on the idea of me and Kara together. Actually, it would solve some issues, but I wasn’t about to give him the satisfaction of being right.

I headed off to find Mom to get her to wash my sheets for me since I didn’t have an Ol’ Lady who would do it for me. Mom was cool— she never asked questions, especially to me, since I was the Prez.

“Tony, baby, you got to get laid.”

“Yeah, I plan to take care of that once this mess is sorted. I’ll find Harley and take care of that.”

“Harley? You can’t have a future with Harley,” she chastised me.

“Who said anything about wanting a future? I just want to get laid. You said I need to get laid, so that’s what Harley is for.”

“You’re right, I did say that. What I meant was you need to find a woman. You’re the Prez, you need to find a good woman who will make you look good.”

  “I don’t need a woman, and I don’t need your advice.”

“If you don’t need a woman, then you can wash your own damn sheets.” She thrusts them back at me.

“But I’m the Prez, and I have pressing matters to attend to. Just wash them.” I thrust them back at her and hurried away before she could lecture me any further.

I found Austin and Seth sitting at the table, eating donuts. “Grab some coffee and a donut, Prez, before they’re all gone.”

“Well, you could have saved me one,” I grumbled while I got some coffee and a donut. “So, we really doing this?”

“Yeah, Kara has a claim, but then, so does Sophie. Maybe I should call her and get her to come down here.”

I looked at Austin like he was fucking crazy. He was good at playing devil’s advocate and I think got off on being a shit stirrer. We had enough fucking issues without involving Sophie. “Uh, Sophie and Kara hate each other. If you want a cat fight, call her, but honestly, I don’t think that’s such a good idea.”

“Yeah, but she’s Maxum’s daughter too, by choice, and so it’s only fair, and well, I don’t know about you guys, but a good cat fight could be quite entertaining. We need some good entertainment around here. Too bad you’ll be too busy fucking Harley to witness it,” Austin teased.

“Harley can wait for a cat fight,” Seth chimed in, causing me to eye him. He was already on my shit list.

“Or you could call Harley and get the three of them going at it. Now, that would be even more entertaining. Especially if we were to fill a kiddie pool with mud or something.”

“Why don’t we throw Reagen into the mix too,” Austin added, which turned Seth serious before I had to say shit.

“She’s still recovering. I don’t want her getting more hurt. Plus, she’s pregnant.”

  “Reagen is pregnant?”

“Yeah, with my child. Where have you been?”

Okay, now I felt like shit. I probably should have remembered this detail rather than dreaming about fucking the enemy. “Well, how about that? Papa Seth. We should throw a party for the two of you. When is she due?”

“We just found out. She’s about two months along.”

“Are you going to marry her?” I didn’t know why I asked it. Maybe I felt like I was being left behind. We weren’t getting any fucking younger, and now my Enforcer was getting an Ol’ Lady and a child. I thought I had longer, but thinking back to what Mom said, it just irks me. Maybe I did need to find someone, and maybe that was the real reason I had come down so hard on Seth.

“Yeah, I probably will.” He grinned. “Though it scares the shit out of me for her to have a baby in the middle of a war, especially when she put a bullet in a man’s head, a man who could leave a ton coming after us.”

“Yeah, that scares me too. How is Reagen?” I needed to stop being such a little bitch, so I decided to play a kind card, throw him a bone.

“She’s okay. She and Kara seem to be buddy-buddy, so that’s good. She needs a friend right now.”

“Yeah, so does Kara.” Seth gave me a sideways glance. It didn’t mean I thought she should be the Prez, but it would be hard to deny the fact that Kara had been through hell and still hadn’t come back from it yet. We were all fucking against her too, so she could use a friend, if I was thinking on a personal level and not just with my pride.

“Okay, let’s get this taken care of,” I said, getting up when Kara entered and grabbed a coffee and a donut. I couldn’t help but notice how her pants hugged her ass like a second skin. Her top was see-through and she wore a black bra under it, one of those push-up bras that made a woman’s breasts look really big and perky.

I couldn’t help but notice. Her long hair was pulled up in a messy bun on the top of her head. Her makeup was thick and dark, and I could tell it was hiding bags under her eyes.

  “Didn’t sleep well?” I asked.

“What’s it to you?” she snapped.

“Hey, I was trying to be civil.” I held up my hands. “I think we got off on the wrong foot. Truce?” I held out my hand.

“Go fuck yourself, Tony!” she said and marched away from me.

“Well, fuck you too!” I yelled at her.

“Seriously? She’s obviously a bitch in heat, so why don’t you go put her out of her misery. It will be for the better of the club,” Austin said, having apparently been right there the whole time. Go fucking figure.

“I got to go call Sophie. Let Kara cool down.” I went to my room, flipped through the old rolodex, and found her number. “Sophie, it’s Tony. We need to talk. Call me.” She wasn’t available, so I left a message. I knew I had said we shouldn’t, but now I had tried to be kind to that bitch and she didn’t give a fuck. There was no getting through to her.

It was childish and spiteful, but having Sophie in on this would be the ultimate revenge.

The entire MC came and gathered at the clubhouse. It had been a long time since every member had been present for something. There were men and women of all ages, and several children of various ages now ran around. It was chaos, and it was getting crowded fast, but still, I couldn't help but notice the decrease in warm bodies. Too many had deserted or had become turncoats. We didn’t have the numbers we needed. There was no way we could survive an all-out attack by the Shadow Order or the Blue Diablos.

Thank God for Kara getting the Crypt Keepers because they had the numbers.

Not that I was going to say that around her. Her head was big enough for both of us.

“Hey, listen up. You’re about to vote on who should be Prez. While I will give Tony time to speak his case, I think you should remember that it’s my birthright. I have a personal and professional score to settle with my father, and I ain't going to rest until it’s settled. Also, I am the one who got us allies when all hope was lost. This here is Eric. He can testify to the alliance we now have with the Crypt Keepers. He’s their
Enforcer.” Kara turned her head to the Keeper she’d likely fucked to make this happen.

“Crypt Keepers got the backs of the Midnight Saints as long as you got our backs in turn.”

“Yeah, we got your backs in turn,” Seth spoke up. “Before Tony speaks, can I just say something? I’m sick of the fighting, and I have a proposal. I say we vote them in as a team of Prezs. Let’s let them both be Prez. Two heads are better than one, and while Tony is out being a fool, getting into scuffles, Kara can be here running things from home.”

“Hell no!” Kara said. “I want in on the scuffles too. I ain't going to be a backseat leader, Seth, but that’s not a bad idea for both of us to be Prez.”

“Got anything to add to that, Prez?” Seth asked me. I cursed under my breath.

“Cat got your tongue, Tony?” Kara teased.

I wasn’t taking that in front of my own club.

“Will you just shut up? You guys know how I handled the shit that went down recently, I think I did a decent job, so if you agree, vote for me. If you don’t, vote for her and fuck off.”

“Okay, let the voting begin,” Kara said with a grin.

I was ready to wipe it right off her fucking pretty face. “Wait, there’s one more name that should be in the ring. The vote will be held tomorrow. I need to reach out to one other person who as I see it has just as much claim to this as Kara does.”

“Who?” Kara demanded. “You can’t possibly mean my bitch fake-ass sister. She has no claim here.” Her voice wavered, but I didn’t let the guilt stop me.

What could I say? I was an asshole.

“She does,” I argued. “If you want a claim, then she gets a claim too.”

“She’s not his real daughter. She was a fucking charity case to replace me, and you know she thinks the whole MC thing is fucked up. She would disband us before protecting us. You’re fucking crazy, you fucking asshole!”
