  Chapter 1

  Declan

“Are you heading out to the Millers?"

Declan glanced up from the bag he was in the middle of packing and nodded. Nathan perched himself at the table and grabbed the box of cereal before he upended it into his bowl. He shook the last of the cereal out before he stared into it and sighed.

"We need to go grocery shopping again," Declan muttered as he made sure he had put all of his tools back where they belonged.

Their kitchen was spacious with sunny yellow walls. It felt perfect in the huge old farmhouse. Things were slowly breaking down that needed to be repaired, but the kitchen was kept up. His mother insisted it was the most important room in the house, the room where they all ate and talked to each other.

"I can probably go tomorrow after my shift at the bar. The tips are always pretty good on the weekends. Maybe Emmett will give me a little advance."

“You two are always at each other’s throats,” Declan said as he arranged his tools carefully. “You think he’ll give you one?”

Nathan grinned. "Trust me, I know how to handle Emmett.”

Declan watched the way his brother’s eyes lit up when he talked about him. For the past two years, he had worked under Emmett, and they were usually fighting over something. Yet, neither of them walked away.

"You complain about him but you refuse to get another job. I think that says a lot,” Declan grunted.

"Worry about yourself thank you very much. Don't you have work to get to?"

Declan nodded.. "Yep. Be back tonight.”

"Glad we can have such in-depth and deep discussions, bro."

He grunted at his brother again. It was way too early in the morning for him to want to talk endlessly. Instead, he grabbed the pot of coffee and poured himself a canister of the liquid. He'd given up the sugar and cream ages ago and if he could he would have injected the caffeine directly into a vein. He needed at least two cups before he resembled a functional being.

"Don't forget to take your suppressants," Jed said as he shuffled into the kitchen and yawned.

Declan groaned. How old does he think I am? Jed liked to remind as if he didn’t know what was going to happen. As if he hadn’t been having heats for years.

The fact that a heat was just around the corner was the last thing he wanted to be reminded of. It still stung that with no mate he had to choke down the suppressants that dampened the effects of it. It still made life uncomfortable, and he'd kill for a good fuck, but that hadn't happened in a while.

The older Declan got, the more he turned down anonymous sexual encounters. They weren’t as good anymore, quick fucks that held no meaning when all was said and done. He'd wanted a mate by his age. The thought of expanding their pack, their farm, and their family had been a dream. At thirty-five, he was already kind of old to be a mateless omega and as his mother reminded him, he wasn't getting any younger. Or any less lonely.

Even Declan’s wolf was anxious. It craved a pup. He was pretty sure it was his biological clock tick, tick, ticking away.

Neither were his brothers. Nathan was just about to turn thirty and Jed was in his late twenties. It felt like his family was cursed. No one expected to meet their fated anymore, those had disappeared decades ago. A regular mate to call their own though? That would have been great.

We all deserve a mate. At least they do. He worried that because they all lived together and worked at making a sustainable, but small, pack together, his brothers might have missed out on things. He'd never been the type that wanted college and a high profile career, but Nathan and Jed were different. They were both thinkers first, but they'd both hung back to help out on their small farm.

"Can you feed the animals before you go?" Nathan asked. "I would do it but my head is still split. I drank way too much last night."

"You're getting old," Declan noted. "That's why."

"Thirty is young for wolves," he pointed out.

"No," Jed cut in. "Declan's right. You're getting too old to come home drunk. Go and get a boyfriend already."

Nathan groaned.. "You go and get a boyfriend. I'm perfectly happy where I am. Pick on Declan. He’s five years older than I am."

  "Declan’s a late bloomer.”

"Okay, then what about you Jed? You're almost as old as I am," Nathan growled.

Declan took that as his cue to get the hell out of there. When the two of them started arguing it was alpha butting head with alpha and it made him want to tell them both to knock it the fuck off. Instead, he headed for the animals.

South River, Michigan had been good to them for the most part. They grew a small area of their own food which supplied fruits and vegetables. They also kept goats, chickens, two pigs, and a few cows. It was a good thing because at least they could have their own meat.

He grabbed the buckets and filled them with feed before he tossed it to them one after the other. Once everyone was fed he cleaned up and headed back for the house. His phone rang in his pocket, and he shuddered at the vibrations. Just a vibration, and he was almost ready to pant with need. Shit. My heat is definitely coming on.

  "Hello?"

"Mr. Burns. When are you coming by to work on the truck?"

"I'm on my way now. I just had to tend to the animals real quick."

Frank sighed. "Good. I need that truck up and running sooner rather than later. I'm heading into town with my neighbor but I'll leave the door unlocked for you. Can I send you the money through that app thingy again?"

Declan smiled. Frank was one of his oldest friends. He was a bit older than him, but they'd gotten along for years. He'd just taught him how to cash app money to people instead of having to deal in cash all the time, and he still called it the app thingy.

"Yeah, you can cash app me. That would be preferable anyway, so I don't have to make an extra trip to the bank."

"Good. If I miss you then just call me and I'll send the money over. Let me know if you need anything."

  "Will do."

Declan hung up the phone and shook his head. At least Frank was a good man. Some people treated omegas
like they should be barefoot and pregnant, stuffed inside of a kitchen and ignored. Not Frank. He'd worked on his cars and equipment for the last few years and Frank had recommended him to others too.

He trudged up the stairs and ignored the sound of Nathan and Jed arguing before he disappeared into his bedroom. At that point, he knew that interfering between them would only make things worse. They usually worked it out on their own.

Declan dug around in his drawer and found the suppressant package hidden underneath some papers. They only came around three or four times a year, but he hated even looking at the things.

He popped one out and swallowed it down before he frowned. Out. Damn. I knew I'd have to get some more, but I didn't think it would be so soon. He tossed the empty packet into the trash and hoped that one would be enough.

"I'm heading out," he called into the kitchen. "Animals are fed and cleaned up. I'll be back tonight."

"Come to the bar," Nathan said as he poked his head out of the doorway. "I'll be there and you can grab a free drink or two."

"You say that, but Emmett will lose his shit."

Nathan waved a hand. "No, he won't. He just likes to yell at me for fun."

"You two," Declan shook his head. "Alright, I might stop by for a beer. I could probably use one."

"Awesome," Nathan grinned. "I'd love the company."

  "What about me?" Jed asked.

  "Fuck you.”

"You’re rude as hell in the morning,” Jed growled. “Say it one more time.”

Nathan stared at him. “Fuck. You,” he said slow and deliberate.

Jed looked like he wanted to slug Nathan. And I’m getting out of the middle of this. All that alpha testosterone in one house was a little too much sometimes. He knew they wouldn’t really fight. If anything they’d shift and run it off or go after each other, but they still drove him crazy.

"Don't break our house," Declan sighed as he headed for the door. "I'll see you both tonight."

He quickly decided to get out of there before they really started in on each other. Declan drove his black Ford pickup to Frank's place. It was half an hour away, but he liked the drive. The peace and quiet, the empty road, the rows of corn and animals that grazed. It was peaceful. It was home.

South River had never been a big town. Their grocery store was still mom and pop owned. If you wanted a Walmart it was at least an hour drive away. Declan had visited Lansing on multiple occasions, but he hated it. Too loud, too much traffic, the air smelled like shit. No, he preferred the clean air and quiet of the country.

When he pulled up to Frank's place, he was already gone. Left behind was his rusty baby blue pickup that he refused to replace. He'd asked him so many times why he wouldn't get a new one, but apparently Frank refused. He didn't like change and it showed.

"Alright, let's get started," Declan muttered to himself as he laid out his tools.

As far as he could tell the truck needed a myriad of fixes. New brake pads, an oil change, a fuel pump. They were all pretty easy for him, but Frank couldn't make heads or tails of it. He found it a little funny that the alpha didn't know how to work a car and it did give him a sense of glee he could do something one of them couldn’t.

Declan loved spending his time buried underneath the hood of a car. Classical music calmed Jed and Nathan always needed a good run, but he loved mechanics. Oil and grease, dirt and metal relaxed him. He had been the only one of his siblings to take to it when their father tried to teach them and thank god he did. Neither Jed nor Nathan knew what the hell to do with cars, and he took pride in the fact that they came to him when they needed it.

The summer heat beamed down on his body, and he wiped the sweat from his brow with his forearm. Michigan summers could be unpredictable, but sometimes when they started they really kicked in hard. He yanked the handkerchief out of his back pocket and wiped his face, but it barely helped.

"Shit," he muttered and stepped back from the truck.

Maybe it's too hot to be working on the damn thing. Declan knew that wasn't it though. He'd worked outside when it was much hotter than the eighty degrees that it was, and he never had a problem. He walked into the garage where Frank's second fridge was set up and pulled it open to see it was stocked with water, soda, beer, and he'd even left a sandwich in there for him which he usually did.

Declan reached in and grabbed a bottle of water. He downed it in what felt like a minute before the water dripped and splashed off his chin and down his shirt. The heat crawled up his skin and the truth that he'd tried to avoid hit him in the face. He wasn't just hot, he was burning up. Full blown heat. It smacked him in the chest and sucked the air right out of his lungs as his legs buckled.

  "No, damn it."

Pain gripped his limbs, and he shook as he fell to the floor. He had suppressed his heats for so long he had forgotten just how strong they could get. How long had it been since he'd been knotted during a heat? Too fucking long.

The thought of a cock that stretched him hard and filled him deep only intensified the sensations that rippled up and down his spine. His own length was unbearably hard and pulsed in his jeans. And he was soaked, wet beyond belief as his hole begged for an alpha to knot and fuck him until he was satisfied.

Footsteps echoed around him and in his haze, Declan was mortified. Someone would see him like that, wet and desperate on the floor with no self-control? The thought that it was Frank shook him to his core. He never wanted the alpha to see him like that.

The scent, however, wasn't Franks. It gripped his balls and throat and wrapped around his heart. Bergamot with that intoxicating citrus laced through it. Pine, strong and firm. Summer at the lake. Freedom.

  Mate.

Declan had never been hit with such a sure thing before, but he knew it the moment he smelled him. That was his mate, and he was so near to him that he could reach out and touch him. His fingers crawled toward the man as he stared up into the fresh young face of Colten. Frank's son.

  "Shit."

He'd only presented alpha two years ago and Declan had never been around him at that point. The boy had gone away to college and rarely came home with his studies taking up much of his time. Frank had told him all about it. He was so proud of his son and now Declan wanted him.

It was more than attraction. He'd felt that dozens of time in his life. No, it was something more, something his father had explained to them ages ago. That instant need to be around him, to have him, to feel his touch. That was more than anything arbitrary, that was his fated mate, and he wanted him.

  "Colten," he groaned.

The blond stumbled back a bit and pressed a hand over his nose and mouth, but it was far too late for that. Declan noticed the way the sunlight played off of his golden locks. He watched the way his ocean blue eyes widened, and then they were nearly black with lust as he inhaled long and hard. His bag had been abandoned, and he ran a hand over his thick cock stuffed inside of his jeans. Declan licked his lips. He needed that cock.

The haze returned before any lucid thought could be formed in Declan's brain. His fingers fumbled with his clothes and Colten crossed the garage and yanked them free without hesitating. Declan's heart raced in his chest as he gripped him.

Mate. Mine. The thought circled on a continuous loop and his own wolf agreed. This was the mate that he'd waited for his entire life and he'd be damned if he would let him go. Every muscle that rolled and dipped called to him, the soft pink set of his lips begged to be kissed.

  "Fuck me. Please."

  Chapter 2

  Colten

Colten only had one goal for the day, get home and see his dad. Do some laundry. Eat a shit ton of food. He was starved and living in a dorm didn't exactly make way for a home-cooked meal. His father had always been pretty shit at it, but he knew they could go out and grab a bite to eat and it would be just as good.

What he hadn't expected was to find his father's friend on the floor of the garage as he writhed in agony. And he hadn't expected t
o be hit in the chest with ten tons of force. It was like someone had smashed him with a hammer and it almost knocked the wind out of him.

That scent. He'd been around Declan plenty of times when he was younger and while he'd always noticed the omegas sweet aroma, like blueberries and vanilla ice cream, he'd never felt it the way that he felt it at that moment.

Everything changed. The scent that drew him in only heightened as he breathed it in and drowned in it. Every ounce of self-control drained. The only thing that made sense in that moment was how much he wanted Declan and it stirred deep in his belly until he was on him, over him, and he ripped off his clothes without thinking.

  “Fuck me.”

Colten swallowed hard at his words. He'd never seen him like that before. His jet black hair was plastered to his head and stuck up in spikes where it had been disheveled. Declan's pea green eyes were rounded with hazel. He'd never noticed that before.

  "Colten," Declan begged.

Just his name on his lips and his dick jumped in response. Colten's eyes traveled the expanse of his strong jaw covered with black hair and his chest broad and muscled. Everything about him drew Colten in.

  Mine.

The alpha abandoned any hope of restraint and once Declan's pants were off, he was really lost. Declan was so wet, his legs trembled and the scent of him aroused drove Colten right over the edge. Declan shifted all on his own onto his knees and shoved his ass high into the air for the alpha's ease.

Colten's fingers ran down his thighs and pushed them apart. Declan's hole dripped, and he buried his tongue against it. The sweetness that touched his lips only made him more ravenous and unhinged.
