Chapter 34

“Have I mentioned lately how much I love your powers over the water?” Smiles Hallthor looking at the beach rapidly moving towards them.

“They come in handy.” Replies Curios.

“Let’s hope all of our powers will be enough to get this god out of whatever trouble he’s in.” Kol says somberly.

“Aren’t you Mr. cheerful?” Questions Hallthor.

“Sorry, it’s just wouldn’t a god have returned if he could? The fact that he hasn’t more likely means that somehow some thing or someone has captured him and if it this thing is powerful enough to capture and hold a god prisoner then what chance do we have?”

“If I haven’t said it before, let me say it now Kol. You sure know how to liven a party.” Jokes Hallthor.

  “I try.”

“No, you say that proudly.” Says Curios.

As the three of them disembark from the row boat the smells of different foods entice them reminding them that they hadn’t eaten yet that day.

“Who knows how long we’ll be here so why don’t we get a little something to eat, you know to keep up our strength.” Suggests Hallthor.

  “Agreed, what say you Curios?”

  “I could use some food.”

“Yeah you could, your breath smells like fish.” Jests Hallthor walking towards the nearest tavern.

“Is that a son of Poseidon joke?” He questions chasing after him.

Watching them chase each other around Kol remembers for a moment that they are all still young. He can’t help but wonder if it’s really fair for them to be spending their youth on dangerous quests. Happily he joins in chasing them down and tackling them both covering them with snow he created with a little magic.

“Take that suckers!” He yells running away.

All of a sudden he feels an electric sting on his butt that makes him jump in the air, turning around he finds that Curios has turned the snow back into water making several whips out of it that Hallthor is charging with electricity.

  “You were saying?” Chuckles Curios.

“Low blow Curios.” He says rubbing his butt.

  “I’ll aim higher.”

“Don’t do me any favors.” Says Kol turning back around to run.

Immediately the water wraps around him pulling Kol towards his friends until they are standing face to face with him.

“What should we do with him Hallthor?”

“I think he looks a little tired, I think he needs some energy.” He answers charging his hands.

“Again I’d just like to call you suckers.” Smiles Kol before the fake imagine they’ve captured disappeared.

  “Crud.” Sighs Curios.

A moment later magical energy forms behind them whipping them in the butt over and over causing them to run towards the city.

Nearing the city the two of them can see Kol standing at the entrance to and inn leisurely drinking from a large mug. “Hey guys, glad you could finally show up.” He says fading the magical whips.

“Cold blooded.” Frowns Hallthor rubbing his backside.

“Of course he’s cold blooded he’s part frost giant.” Laughs Curios following the others into the tavern.

The three of them sit back and relax at a table in the corner away from the other people who are already giving them dirty looks.

“Friendly place Kol, what you couldn’t find a table in Jotunheim?” Questions Hallthor.

“We’d find a warmer welcome in hell.” States Curios staring at the crowd.

“I get it a warmer welcome in hell!” Laughs Kol slapping the table and drawing even more attention to them.

“What’ll it be?” Questions an attendant walking up.

“Any kind of food you have and two more mugs for my friends here.” Answers Kol.

“Question for you sir, is there some reason that everyone is staring at us like we just pleasured their sister?” Asks Hallthor while making funny faces at different people that are gawking.

“First off I wouldn’t recommend making faces at people around here boy they don’t like smart-alecky punks.”

“Let me guess it’s the smart part that they mainly have a problem with.” Says Curios feeling protective over Hallthor.

“What’d you say?” The man grunts turning toward Curios.

“What’s a matter caveman did I not speak slowly enough for you, perhaps I should draw little stick figures on a wall so you could understand.” He snaps standing up to the man.

“I have a nice spot out back to bury you when I’m done.” The man says balling his fists.

Timing it perfectly Curios calls some spilled water to him turning it to ice on the floor under the man’s feet as he tries to punch him. As the large man slips forward Curios grabs his shirt yanking him downward until his head connects with the table top sending him flying backwards unto the floor where Curios changes the water back lifting the man up sending him flying out the tavern door into the street.

Several men stand up ready to rush the table until Hallthor leisurely tosses his hammer into the air. As the people watch the hammer flies out of the bar and an instant later everyone hears it connect with the man’s head with a thud knocking him out and then flying back to Hallthor’s hand.

“Does anyone else have a problem with my brother’s faces?” Questions Curios eyeing everyone.

“Is that what demigods do today?” Questions a man walking into the place.

“You mean defend ourselves? Absolutely.” Answers Hallthor.

“That wasn’t self-defense in my opinion.” He says evenly staring at them from the door.

“No one asked your opinion did they?” Curios says weary of the stranger.

“You’re real tough when picking on a normal humans aren’t you well you’re not the only demigods around.”

“Teach them a lesson Jor!” Yells one of the patrons in the bar.

“Shhh, this is grown up time children keep your comments to yourselves or I’ll be forced to send you to the corner for time out.” Chides Curios.

“Try and make me do anything child if you dare! I’m Jor the great, son of Sol goddess of the sun. Now die!” He yells creating a ball of fire the size of their table and then throwing it at them.

Instantly Curios jumps in front of Hallthor and Kol drawing every bit of water in the place to make a shield around them. The water steams and boils against the fury of the attack barely holding up.

When the steam clears Hallthor lobs one of his hammers at Jor’s head but to his dismay the man just bats it aside like if he was simply shooing a fly.

“Is that the best you can do?” He laughs.

Curios and Hallthor back up to the other side of the table summoning their weapons to the ready while Kol sits quietly with his back to the man still.

“Kol you might want to get up about now.” States Curios worried about him.

“I’m going to say this once Jor so listen close, we did not start the problems with the man outside nor were we picking on anyone. You are a demigod and that makes us family one way or another so I’m going to hold my anger at attacking my brothers a little longer and give you the choice of apologizing and walking out of here.”

“What? You think I care about our little family connection? Well I don’t and I don’t care whose son you are I fear no one!” He yells throwing another giant ball but this time directly at Kol.

Before the others can do anything the entire ball of fire stops dissipating into nothing.

“I gave you the choice to leave peacefully Jor, now for the rest of your life you will have to live with what happens to you next knowing you could have escaped unscathed.”
