Liam and Giada came, she’s nice and pregnant. Buddy wore a bowtie.

The guys from the band surrounded Adam with support and Zeus did a speech, of course.

Afterward, we held the reception at the club downstairs. Just family and friends. Even Chance’s mom came.

I enjoyed being surrounded with all the amazing characters in my life. I watched Adam lean into Chance while holding their baby girl. I smiled when Liam kissed Giada. Jolee was flirting with Zeus again. I laughed to myself about that.

This will be Chance’s last night in the club, though he’s moving their little family to upstate New York. Adam, left the band because touring would take him from his family and he would miss too much of his daughter.

  Knox is getting married next.

  Diego wants to settle down.

  Blaze is Blaze.

There are no more Riders of Beat.

At the end of the evening, I started heading out. I was just to the sidewalk when Adam came out the side door, “Hey,” he had the tie to his tux open around his neck, “Where ya going?”

I braved an answer when Chance appeared. His dress jacket is off, sleeves rolled up but bowtie in place. “Trixie, come on, we still have another game.” Chance encouraged, “and a lopsided cake.”

  I took a deep breath, “I can’t…”

  “Why?” Adam asked.

Chance put a hand to his back as they listened.

I bit my lip then met their eyes, “I have an early flight.”

  “To where?” Chance looked concerned.

I came closer, “I’m… going home… to Colorado.”

Adam looked devastated but so did Chance. “Do the guys know?” Adam pressed.

I silently shook my head from side to side.

  “Why?” asked Chance.

“There is nothing here for me guys. I need… to find something. I don’t know what it is yet… the band is done, my heart isn’t in the club life and I want…some shadow of what you guys have. Maybe. One day.”

Chance came forward and cupped my face, “You could find all that here, closer.”

I pet his hand and arm, “I think, moving on would be hard.”

Adam came and crushed me to his body in a hug. He kissed my temple and I sank into the arms that were still a version of home to me.

  “Don’t disappear, Trix. Please.”

  “I won’t.” I sniffed back tears.

Chance stepped up to take his place and I fell into him. “Take care of our Adam,” I whispered.

  He squeezed me, “I will.”

  “I love you,” I said.

They kissed me again and then let me go to catch a cab.

I smiled at them before getting in, “Kiss my niece and do me a favor, don’t lock her up at sixteen.”

They both looked deadly at that. “No boys,” they said it at the same time.

I laughed and blew them a kiss before getting in the cab.

I took in the sights of New York City for the last time. I’ll miss it here but I need to rest my heart and you know what they say… home is where the heart is…

Thank you for reading my book! Did Adam and Chance have you in a hurricane of emotions like they did me?

The Significant Other was definitely their story but it was also Trixie’s! Why? Because the fill-in person is another fun role humans end up in too.

The upside is if you are in this awkward spot remember that just like Trix, there is always new beginnings ahead. Closing a door pushes you to open the next and if your heart is as open as that door, you never know what wonders might walk in!

  And yes…Trixie will get a book. ; )

Nicole has been writing historical romance for over ten years. Her passion for history fuels the creativity for her novels and she finds the tools there to create a compelling plot.

However, she's evolved into writing contemporary romance as well, with more modern stories to come.

"The Divorce" and "Meadow Creek" were both nominated in the 2016 Indie Book Awards! "The Divorce" also won second place in the 2016 Best Cover Design in 'Urban Literature Magazine.'

Nicole lives in Virginia with her three children and their amazing Grandparents. She is always reading or working on the next book between mommyhood adventures.

The Relationship Quo Series covers all the awkward and agonizing parts of relationships that we humans have to face. From Divorce to the Friend Zone; all the rough topics we don’t like talking about. The complicated Facebook Status’ and the “it’s hard to explain’ situations. The next release is called The Co-Parent where I’ll explore the dynamics of yet another toughy. I hope to follow up with many more.

After all, we humans never fall short of awkward love lives…

The Divorce: Book One, The Friend Zone: Book Two & The Co-Parent: Book Three…

Adam: I swore off men years ago to protect myself. I don’t trust guys. Guys break hearts, they take, and they don’t give like women do. That’s why for the past ten years I’ve entrusted my heart to a tattooed, multi-hair colored, vixen named Trix. Trixie is my safe haven. She doesn’t just back up my voice in our band she backs me in life.

Sadly, I don’t reciprocate like I should. My phobia of PDA and my over-protectiveness are hard to put up with. It might be because I need more than I let on. More than I would dare to admit to.

We moved to NY to grow as a band but then I met ‘him’…our boss; a sexy as hell, bad boy with a convict’s past and a talent for breaking men and women’s hearts alike. He’s bad news… An urban beast with too much edge and he’s prowling around my comfort-zone relationship.

Now I’m not sure who my significant other is… my girl or the man determined to remind me who I really am and what I truly want.

Trixie: Coming to the city was our ticket to fame. It was me and Adam against the odds of notoriety but since we arrived in the Big Apple, we’ve also been made aware how small our bubble of safe love is.

I know what my boyfriend probably hasn’t admitted to himself… that I’m not enough for him. We both are just too chicken to do anything about it.

New York is changing us. The people we meet here, the emotions we face, even our music… and if there is anything you learn from these streets, it’s this…

Traffic and life, they both wait for no one. You have to go with the flow, ride the current, and keep up the pace. Both Adam’s love and mine is being tested, or it’s about to end.

Hopefully we can figure it all out. Oh and add that to my list of to do’s like keeping my twin away from a
dangerous drug lord, struggling not to fall from a stranger, keeping the band from falling apart and not becoming a bumbling idiot in front of our criminally hot boss. Yeah…criminal…
