"Will it lead me to the Oscars?"

"Well, you're nominated as the leading man. What you do with the role is up to you."

Their lips merged, igniting the passion they had denied themselves in the past and unleashing unrestrained desire. Oscar picked her up, tossed her onto the bed, and lay next to her. Their hands roamed one another's body, caressing the flesh that burned under unnecessary clothing.

He unbuttoned her blouse, which she quickly shed, revealing her red lace bra. He removed her jeans, revealing a thong so small it wouldn't have concealed any pubic hair, leading him to the conclusion she kept her garden bare—or at least tightly manicured. He couldn't wait to find out.

Stacey reached down, inserting her finger between his flat stomach and bulging pants. "Whatcha got under there?"

He smiled. "The knight's package. Want to unwrap it?"

  "With all my heart."

His lips fell on hers, and they entered a world of ecstasy.

  Chapter 50

Roscoe grasped Oscar by the back of his neck and squeezed affectionately. His other hand stretched out toward a JCB digger in front of them as family members and a few friends surrounded them.

"I told Tyler we should wait until you got out of the joint to finish the polo ground, and here you are. So it's only fair that you start the digging for the last phase of the project, the parking lot."

"I thought we talked about leaving it as is."

Tyler moved over next to him. "Yes, but the more we thought about it, people in Ferraris and Bentleys don't want to park on a dirt lot. A few more grand, and we'll get it blacktopped, then there's no worries about muddy supercars."

"You guys really waited for me? That could've—should've—been another ten years."

"But it's not," Tyler said. "Thanks to your girlfriend locking up that nutter cop."

"That's true. That's kind of funny, isn't it? Emmitt got thirty-five years for the same crime I got ten for."

Tyler smiled. "The Chambers charm at work."

Oscar assessed the digger's position. "Is that thing on state land or our property?"

"We took it to the edge," Tyler confirmed. "But it's our land. We made sure of that."

"Good," Oscar exclaimed. "Let's keep it in the family, right?"

  "Exactly," Roscoe agreed.

Stacey gave Oscar a push, nudging him toward the digger. "Go on then. Get up there and start digging your dream."

Oscar gave her an amorous look. "Our dream."

  She smiled.

Oscar climbed into the digger, checking the knobs and levers to see what did what.

Miriam stepped over and stood next to Stacey. "So, you're the governor's daughter?"

  Stacey smiled politely. "Yes."

"The one my grandson is keen on?"

Stacey smiled again. "Yes, I believe we share an attraction for one another."

"Enough to bear him fruit before I'm pushing up daisies."

"Why, Mrs. Novak, we're not even married. In fact, I'm not even under a proposal of marriage."

Miriam swatted her hand. "Oh fiddlesticks. This second millennium—the rules have changed. You have his grandmother's permission to enter into activities that may bring offspring into this family." She flicked her head toward Juliet on the other side of the gathering. "That one is looking for Mr. Right in all the wrong places. You're my best bet."

Stacey suppressed a smile. "I see. Well, when the time is right, we'll see how things shape up."

"And what shape do you like things in, dear?"

  "Excuse me?"

"Let me put it another way. What would get you in the mood?"

"Oh, in the mood … Well, I'm sure if Oscar took me on a cruise, I'd be in the mood."

Miriam raised an eyebrow. "A cruise, huh?"

  "Yes, that would help."

Miriam looked at Oscar sitting on the JCB. "You'll set sail as soon as Oscar gets off that damn digger."

  Stacey smiled.

"And if you do happen to get married, perhaps you'll keep your maiden name as well."

  "Why would I do that?"

"Think about it. Then you'd be Stacey Davenport-Novak-Chambers. And you know how people name their kids after verbs these days, like Dash or Chase. You could name him 'Run.'"

  "Run?"

  Miriam grinned. "Run DNC."

Stacey laughed. That assured her she'd like being part of the family. Money, laughs, and a man willing to do anything for her. What more could a girl want?

"Go on, boy," Roscoe yelled. "You're doing great. Another couple of scoops, then we'll get the team in here to finish it off."

Oscar lowered the scoop into the ground and brought up another load of dirt. He swiveled the JCB around and dumped the mass of earth onto the pile he had started.

On the top of the pile, the sun caught a piece of metal glistening.

  "What the hell?" Oscar mumbled.

He turned off the digger, hopped down, and rambled over to the mound. Roscoe and Tyler joined him.

  "Holy crap," Tyler whispered.

Roscoe brushed the dirt off the top of the case. "Look at this."

  Property of Fort Knox Depository.

  "I can't believe it. It's here. It's really here."

Darcy, Miriam, and Stacey wandered over. Juliet stayed where she was, engrossed in her phone.

Stacey pointed to the case. "What's that?"

Oscar's grin spread across his entire face. "The jackpot. On our land."

Stacey charged him, throwing herself on top of him and knocking them both to the pile of dirt. She glanced at Miriam, then looked into Oscar's eyes.

"Oscar Novak-Chambers … Will you marry me?"

Oscar looked around at his family. They all waited for his answer. Miriam with a tear in her eye.

He refocused on Stacey. "Will you sign a prenup?"

  "No way."

  The gathering laughed.

So did Oscar. "Let's look into our future," he said.

All eyes were on the box as Oscar opened it.

  Empty.

Roscoe burst out laughing. "I told you it would never stay buried this long. Some son of a bitch done came and got it. We'll have to keep making our money the old-fashioned way, through hard work."

Oscar looked at Stacey. "Do you still want to marry me?"

Stacey squeezed him tight as they lay on the hillock of sod. "Let's do it tonight. We set sail tomorrow."

  THE END

  A Note From the Author

This wasn't Tyler's first time in print. I began my writing career with Tyler when he joined the Navy to avoid jail. His adventures take him to Hawaii, a cruise around the Western Pacific, and finally onto Scotland where he met Darcy.

Next, my life took over and returning to the United States after living in England for twenty-two years became too humorous to ignore. So I wrote a couple of satirical memoirs.

I returned to writing novels in a joint venture with Melissa Mayberry. We left America after four years, but not before I had the stupid idea to buy a second-hand RV and drive from Minnesota to Florida. The misadventure has been documented in RV There Yet?
