"Because it fucking says so on the sign, asshole. Look, I don't know who you are or why you think you get to tell me what to do, but you can get lost with that attitude. I'm right where I'm supposed to be, so why don't you think outside of the box and mind your own business?" Mal demanded. "Now if you don't mind, I'm trying to read. Something I'm sure you two would benefit from every so often."
"Benefit from your gossip columns and girl porn stories? Hard pass. I know how adult women like to be treated, thanks." He stepped back alongside his two buddies. The quiet, dark one just looked at her with mild interest from his spot on the wall opposite hers.
"Even if by some sick fluke you’re supposed to see this registrar, I hope you brought a tent, because Mrs. Allez won't be here today," the first guy said. "She's out sick."
"How would you know?" Mallory asked in exasperation. "I doubt very seriously that any of you are the receptionist."
"Nah, not this week, Bunny. But that doesn’t mean we’re wrong."
